The 1 to 1 ratio works for cooking steamed rice in a rgular pot, a rice cooker and in the Instant Pot. Try it and tell me how it works out. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Thanks for viewing my video on Perfect Steamed Rice Using The Instant Pot.
I soak the rice for 30 minutes and then cook for 3 minutes with 10 minutes natural release. Learned it from a chef online. Cones out very nice. Your way seems much more straightforward.
how do i do it without instapot? thanks for all the vids man. i am glad i found your channel. you are awesome and so are ur recipes. you the man. thanks again brotha
Yes, you can cook steamed rice in a regular sauce pan or pot. Keep the ratio the same- for example, 1 cup rice to 1 cup water. The heat setting is medium. Cover with a lid. When the water is starting to boil, do not open the lid for 15 minutes. At 15 minutes, take a spoon and stir up the rice. Cover with the lid again, and steam for for final 10 minutes on low heat setting. Stir rice one more time before serving. Thanks for viewing my video on Secrets To Perfect Steamed Rice.
I finished the first 50 lb. bag a long time ago. The second 50 lb. bag is almost finished as well. I didn't do as many onion recipes with the second 50 lb. bag but I still have a backlog of onion related videos. Not really tired of eating onions but tired of editing all the onion videos. Thanks for viewing my video on Perfect Steamed Rice With Instant Pot.
Excellent video as always. A quick question, Dan, do you know of any Chinese or Eastern Asian recipes that use the pilaf/pilau method of cooking the rice, e.g., sauteing the rice in butter or oil before steaming it, most often in broth? I'm sure the Uighurs and other Central Asian minorities of Western China use this method, but I've never seen a recipe where ethnic Chinese do this. I love your channel. I learn so much from you.
Good question. My mom soaks the rice in water when she cooks rice or for congee. It makes the rice softer but I prefer my rice firmer. When my mom makes Sticky Rice In Bamboo Leaves (Zhongzi or Doong), she puts the rice in cooking oil, sucha s peanut oil or canola oil. You can cook rice in broth, such as chicken stock or beef stock. The recipe for Hainan Chicken uses the chicken broth from boiling the chicken, to cook the rice after. So much in the world to explore in terms of cooking and places to visit. Thanks for your question. I might touch more on this in a future video. Thanks viewing my video on Perfect Steamed Rice With Instant Pot. Thanks for your continued support.
How to make fluffy rice in a rice cooker? I have an old one I love, but rice sticks in the bottom and boils water over every time. Thanks for your videos for cooking nice :-)
If the bottom of the rice cooker is rough, it might get sticky. Try rubbing a little cooking oil, such as peanut oil or canola oil, over the bottom and sides of the rice pot. You might be cooking too much rice at once for the capacity of the rice cooker. Maybe cutting back the amount of rice and equal amount of water would help. Usually there is a bit of overflow, which is normal. Thanks for viewing my video on Perfect Steamed Rice With Instant Pot.
I tried the high pressure setting for the steamed rice first. I liked the results, so I never tried the rice setting. I'm sure the rice setting should be good for rice. I' should try the rice setting. If you try the rice setting, let me know how you like it. Thanks for viewing my video on Secrets To Perfect Rice.
@@ChineseCookingChannel Thank you for the fast response. I tried the rice setting a couple times, 1:1 water to rice. However, the rice either felt like it's undercooked or too dry. So then, I tried the method from this video, using the same ratio and that worked.
Any kind of rice can be use, but some kinds of rice may need slightly more water or sometimes needs slightly less water. I prefer long grain rice. Jasmine rice is also commonly used. Thanks for viewing my video on Secrets To Perfect Rice.

Did you open the steam valve manually after the 5 minutes? Or let the steam come out naturally the slow way?
Thanks
You can do it both ways. If you have the time, just let the steam release slowly on its own. Thanks for checking out my video.
