    He gave so many warnings before that strike , that long slow tongue flick , a sure sign he’s mighty pissed off . That defensive poise , the constant rattling .... they really do NOT want to waste their venom on something they can’t eat ❗️

    Because of the uneven spacing of the bands on the 'coon tail' (locals sometimes call these 'coontails), he can easily be mistaken for a Mojave rattlesnake, it is said that those bans are not a surefire way alone to identify a diamondback.

    • @KyairEnnis547
      @KyairEnnis547 2 місяці тому

      There are a few ways to identify a Diamondback and a Mojave
      Diamondback: Diamond pattern and equal stripe tail
      Mojave: Oval pattern, white bands thicker than black bands

    Thanks for posting this. It helped me confirm I was awoke from my hammock at 5:00am in Wimberly, TX to the rattle of one of these snakes. It started about 30 feet away and then about a minute later it moved and rattled about 10 feet away. Rattlesnake alarm clock got me up, it was right before dawn and I couldn't see good. That diamondback pattern is great camoflauge. I was lucky I didn't take a step in the wrong direction. Snake won that battle and had the hunting ground for the morning. Having a snake sneak up on you in nature is so much different than seeing them in the zoo or at an expo. Rattlesnakes and Copperheads....ah, Texas.

    To be fair I heard these snakes will only strike if extremely provoked and as others said plenty of warning was given. I love snakes and here in England we have only one poisonous one the Adder. I am trusted enough to be told where to find and watch them by my local park ranger. Lots of people are scared of them and try to kill them but they are actually shy and reclusive and will slip away if they detect you which makes them hard to spot. Most bites are on off leash dogs rather than people.

    Always loved Rattlesnakes and thought they were beautiful creatures. At least they try to warn people "Hey. Your too close." Fun fact about Rattlers, Their bites I've heard are dry bites. Their venom isn't meant for humans and it's used to hunt prey. It's so sad that these creatures get killed by people. They are animals. You come into their turf and cut their heads off... it's horrible. They aren't out to get us. It's like Sharks. They aren't out to kill humans. Beautiful creature though. Big boy/girl. Very nice strike too. Love em. Just you know.. Keep them far away from me.

      Eh, that's not as fun as getting close up lol. I don't do this anymore, I rarely even pull out my camera when I encounter them now. I was trying to get close up video at the time, which this was many years ago. I did this to get reactions, and bring attention to not needing to kill snakes. It worked then, and continues to do so now. The snake lived, and like all of them I encounter was given a drink for his troubles.

      @@TheCrotalusfreak Well, I'm glad you're not doing it so much anymore. What you did was Steve Irwin's trick too. He would get the snake to exhibit extreme defensive behavior to emphasize how dangerous it was. That seemed to be his main technique to make a living, at least as far as his videos and movies. He finally provoked a stingray a little too much. Be careful.

      according to my field guide u can tell the difference between the western and mojaves by the width of the rings around the tail! the western has black/white bands of similar width! the Mojave the black bands r noticeably thinner than the white bands! there's probably other ways to tell em apart but the bands is what I look for

    I'm glad you didn't kill the rattlesnake but you should have backed off a bit and recorded from a distance so as to not stress the animal as much as you did.

    These guys are not to be messed with when they strike they can lunge up 16 feet in front of them so he may think he's a safe distance away he's still in the danger zone
