    Great review, I love the format of the video too. Subbed.
    I have a 2.0 GR Hatch in Bi-Tone Pearl Silver and I absolutely love it, so easy to drive, very relaxing and yet in the spec I have it can do the sporty thing (as sporty as a hybrid at this price point can be anyway 😂)
    The 2.0 is a significant upgrade on the 1.8 if like me you want some surprisingly punchy performance and better overall refinement for little trade off in the way of mpg. The small boot is no bigger than my old 2015 Mazda 2 but adequate for most things. I have driven the 1.8 also and it’s still an excellent choice for most folk as you get that bigger boot and those few extra mpg’s.

    Good shtuff. Reminds me of the old e11 sr. A little bit different to a standard corolla but ultimately forgettable.
    Stick a colon : into your timestamps instead of full stop. Should turn them into hyperlinks for the video 👍

    The buttons on that infotainment system remind me of an 1990's video recorder!.

    Here in Germany they sell the Corolla just as you described: 2.0 hybrid with 17 inch tyres and it does haul ass. I just reserved a 2019 model. Unfortunately it does not have Android Auto or Apple Carplay (but I have been assured it will be a software retrofit in the coming months.)

    Ah come on Bob, A top spec corolla with a 2 litre hybrid punchy engine isn’t too bad price wise. A new golf R-line with the 1.5 etsi engine is about the same price. Anyway in Ireland we tend to pay a lot more for cars with a lot less spec thrown in.

    Yep-like the format Bob.
    That GR is a handsome looking car. Couple of little negatives id agree with you on ok. Overall though, not bad at all. Out of interest, you may (or not) know that on a lot of the marques nowadays the radar guided cruise control sensor is located directly behind the logo on front grille which is why it is no longer raised, its now flat and partially translucent to allow radar signal pass through!

    Did I miss something? This is a Hybrid so it's more fuel efficient yet not a mention of the fact that it will return in exess of 60 miles per gallon.

    07:45 “Digital screen .. / .. we’ll get to that when we’re driving”. You didn’t but anyway it’s configurable in one of the submenus in the dash using the buttons on the left of the steering wheel: choice of classic arc and needle or simple digit readout.

    I like the look of the car. A nice slick sporty look. What turns me off it is the gearbox. Makes the car feel slow with the same tone through acceleration. It really is just a town car at the end of the day in my opinion

    • @glenncole7721
      @glenncole7721 4 роки тому

      It's not slow. The 2.0 version reaches 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds - so not too shabby at all!

    "Bobhawk" - deadly! Excellent review as always. Very sad to see Toyota not doing diesels any more, I'm stuck with my '17 corolla because I want another diesel but stumped with what to replace it with. Civic maybe?

    video links are just a bit too long needs about 0.25 seconds chopped of the end. less looking at you in freeze mode and better to jump straight away to the highlighted segment

    Im about to collect the very same car this afternoon, colour, spec etc. Mine however does have Sat Nav. I did notice the the steering wheel is a little this, but I plan to get it covered in Alcantara soon as so that should thicken it up. 👍

      The new intro keeps it fresh and gets your attention 👌 as for the Car.... go to done deal with 34 grand and see how much 1 to 2 year old car you can buy for that money and spec... I just could not part with 34 grand for that car.....

    Another great review Bob, I think 18" wheels are too noisy and harsh on Irish roads, the 2.0 Sport Tourer has 17" wheels and is the better choice, more boot space, you can fit your doggo, looks better, possibly quieter on those 17" wheels too.

    Late last year decided it was time for my 2015 Golf Mk7 dsg to go. It was a good car and did plenty of miles with not much trouble. .But I didn’t fancy the look of the new Mk8 and wanted to change before the Gti version would come out. I went to the local Toyota garage to try the estate version of the very car you tested. I had to go for the estate as no way would my two whippets fit into the boot space in the hatch. There is no real depth and dog owners should be aware of this. Coming from a dsg gearbox I was frankly appalled at how poor the cvt is . I tried it in the sport mode and so forth but there is no getting away from the drone . Trying to make the car go quickly was just a chore . I was prepared for the lack of performance drop from the Golf but not the numbness of the driving experience. If Toyota would put a dsg gearbox in it they might have a winner for people like me who like a sporty car. You didn’t mention the fact that ,on the dashboard, you get a score for your eco driving ,when you switch off . I got something under fifty and ,when I enquired of the salesmen ,if that was good he replied f****** awful ! We both hooted and I would have tried for single figures if had known about this score thingy before we set off . What did I buy ? A Seat Leon ST Cupra. Four wheel drive , dsg and 300bhp. It is , amazingly, ULEZ compliant .So I do get some eco kudos for that . Don’t I ? Brilliant review by the way . Your views mirrored mine .Keep up the good work

    I'd love to say it baffles me that Toyota don;t offer the 2.0 engine in all grades. I'd be tempted by the estate, but the 2.0 is only available in the TREK format, and it's just fugly like that unfortunately.

    First time I've seen Toyota offering a 2L hybrid, literally every hybrid has been 1.8. Any different to any other toyota hybrid powertrain

    • @mikesanders5433
      @mikesanders5433 4 роки тому

      Stephen Doherty Yeah the 2.0 is new and now comes in the Corolla & CH-R, I’ve had the pleasure of driving both engines and I own a 2.0 GR Hatch.
      The 2.0 is significantly more punchy and flexible compared, and it’s coupled with more powerful batteries too for not very much trade off in mpg (I’m sat happily in the mid/high 50’s on most averages).
      The 1.8 is excellent too mind and will be perfect for most folk, it just cannot match the 2.0 when it comes to performance or refinement.
