Your frank commentary is exactly what I like to hear in preparation for travel. I much prefer authenticity & quality than run-of-the-mill tourist attractions -- Having said that, I do appreciate the natural beauty and antique architecture of this area.

I work in the tourism industry running my own business and work in a town that’s a heavily visited tourist town. We have lots of small independent businesses but they are geared to the tourists as this is how they make money and survive. Over the years I’ve seen so many businesses come and go and it’s so hard to run a small business, especially at the moment so whilst they may not be up to your standards they no doubt work really hard.

You made me cry going to Bourton-on-the-Water. My husband and I had our first date there 34 years ago when he was in the US Air Force; it brought back so many wonderful memories.

I've lived on the outskirts of Bourton for 8 years now, I don't enjoy the throngs of tourists but am fond of the village simply because the scenery is utterly beautiful and it's possible to find peace and quiet if you know where to look. BTW it should be quieter this year as coaches are no longer allowed to park in Bourton!

As a lifelong Cotswoldian I'd recommend watching Josie's blogs for retail and dining recommendations in the area etc but also watch the Cotswold Explorer channel on UA-cam for a more in depth history of the various towns and villages visited. Less touristy, real Cotswold working villages to add a balance. There are so many charming market towns and villages. Not all not all have a 'Bamford' quality dining pub or a Daylesford farm shop but they are worth visiting none the less.

Loved this video! Me and my sister did a trip from the U.S. to England in December and decided to do several days in the Cotswold's. We went to both Stow and Bourton on the Water was adorable! Gladly it wasn't as packed because we were clearly there in the "off season" I suppose. I adored Stow and had my now favorite boots shipped from that very Fairfax & Favor store. I've had more compliments on my boots than any other shoes I have ever worn and I am obsessed with them! I absolutely will be that tourist that comes back again as I loved every bit of England I visited!

My Grandad was a policeman around Bourton-on-the-Water and Stowe back in the 70s, so it was lovely to see them featured! You're right about it getting busy though, we visit twice a year and last summer was crowded to say the least! From my personal experience, the local businesses in Broadway are great quality and I love how they support eachother!

Thank you for being so honest!! My husband and I had a trip to the Cotswolds in 2011. Like many other places, tourists have flocked to certain cities and towns and have overwhelmed them, as they have here in tourist areas in the state of Maine. The Knick knack shops abound. I think where you live is unspoiled and private to a degree. Watching and enjoying all of your videos, you are at Daylesford and Bamford when they open and they are not as crowded. Our world has always been changing but hang onto your place of beauty and enjoy every minute with Dexie and Dickens.

Hi Josie, loved the vlog! I’ve been watching you for years and I recently moved out of the Cotswolds after living in Bourton on the Water for 8 years so loved seeing you walk around all my well known/loved places. Before you mentioned it I was screaming at the screen that you must try a smith burger! They are honestly the best burger I’ve ever eaten (and I’m fussy!) and they have truffle Mac and cheese as a side you would absolutely love it. The Chip Shed fish and chips are also very good. I’d recommend The Den for lunch and for their milkshakes, and the chestnut tree do great cakes and pastries. I would avoid the summer holidays in Bourton, unfortunately it becomes so busy it really isn’t enjoyable - the water is completely filled with children and dogs, and the grassed areas cannot even be seen because of so many people there who often leave their litter. Parking is a nightmare during this time too. I’d also recommend tourists to avoid January because most businesses are closed during this time. I’d recommend getting to Bourton early to avoid the crowds. The model village is great for tourists to visit and also the Christmas shop.

    • @lollypops1
      @lollypops1 5 місяців тому +1

Just to add to Charlie’s opinion on Bourton - yes you are right a lot of shops are targeted towards overseas tourists (gift shops etc) and locals particularly despise the newish American style ‘’candy’’ shop (just not in keeping with the area at all!) but it is unfortunately how the village makes most of its money. The places I mentioned above are small local businesses and not chains. Smiths burger is run by two brothers, The den is a small family run business by locals etc. so you just have to pick and choose your places.

Josieeee, if you visit Bourton-on-the-water on summertime you will absolutely love it.
The atmosphere is just amazing, people enjoying ice creams while they dip their feet in the water, there is usually live street music on the background by talented artists, children running and playing in the water. And the colours, there’s green everywhere, the flowers.l are so beautiful. Honestly there is nothing better. Tell Charlie on summertime he would change his opinion. It’s definitely a place to go with family. We really really enjoyed this place.

In Bourton take the hidden public footpath on the top side of Lansdown Road next to the house called ‘Strathspey’.

Hannah was a joy to talk with to learn about the area and made sure we’re were taken care of every morning! Stow was the perfect anchor point as it’s 20-30 minutes from most of the popular areas. I know what you mean Charlie about the "twee" element of shops and I think it would be great if you got hold of the perfumerie and turned it into a Cotswolds Penhaligons. Food is so important too so a good baker is wonderful for all those hungry tourists. Home made pie shops are always popular and cheese and pickles etc. Home made cheese straws etc and locally made chutnies and jams.

I made it a point to explore all over in each area we lived. People would often say, “I’ve lived here my entire life, and dint see a fraction of what you have done”. Explore where you live it’s AMAZING. I would love for you to explore about the Cotswolds…imagine you would have new followers just for that.

Oh, I love this video so much! Thank you for taking us around the Cotswolds. It's a bucket list item for sure. Would you and Charlie consider giving us Americans a tour of Cornwall this spring? Please and thank you. 😊

Lovely vlog! I adore the Cotswolds and totally agree with your advice re Bourton, also it definitely looks like a good spot for Pooh sticks I agree with Charlie! Hope your Pilates double whammy didn’t kill you, at least they don’t make you do push-ups 😂😂😂😂😂

Love the Cotswold tour idea, we love Broadway ❤.
The 11 zone between your eyebrow is so called because when you get to my age you can end up with two lines there - from frowning ☹️- so hoping mine aren’t too bad yet 😅😅.
Love the H&M haul, the dresses are gorgeous and what a great dupe the bag is. Think it’s all sold out at the moment, I need to catch up on your vlogs, I’m so far behind 🫣

I always loved visiting Bourton as a child, especially the miniature village and paddling in the Windrush. Broadway is another favourite and I remember a great visit to Bibury, including the trout farm. 😊

Beautiful vlog Josie, ❤ as always, 😊. When we visited the Cotswolds with my mum last November, went to some gorgeous towns, but definitely not enough time in 3 days !!!!!!!!!!! The food out we had everywhere was gorgeous, loved seeing the Harry Potter tree & Blenheim 🪄. Xxx

Love seeing more of the Cotswold villages. Agree sunny days always best and Spring green new leaves and flowers make anything look more beautiful.
Also always love hearing things from your moms prospective on some of your other vlogs, as she is more my age.

We decided to go to the cotsworlds for our anniversary and on your recommendation went to Bourton on the water, its so picturesque, we stopped off at daylesford first and saw you walking past the fire pit, I would have said hello but you were too far ahead which was a shame. But we've really enjoyed our stay, thank you x

It was great to watch your vlog while I was working out today... I missed seeing some of your new H&M outfits and had to rewatch that segment... Hard to see everything in between the push up portion of the work out❤️💕

We live in Malmesbury which is right on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, and just visited Stow! I can say I definitely liked it more than Bourton… my boyfriend and I agreed we don’t ever have to see Bourton again (once is enough)😅! It isn’t the Cotswolds but if you haven’t already been there’s a really pretty little village in Bath called Freshford. It has one lovely pub (The Inn at Freshford) with some local cider/ales that we love to get when we go- and the beautiful Iford Manor gardens! It’s such a quiet escape that I definitely recommend. It was my first little village exploration when I moved to the UK so it has a special place in my heart 💓

Another idea to include in the tours of the local, villages is the worship or churches that are in them. I know personally, I have ancestors that ruled and were buried in their church with a sculpted image of them. I’m sure that isn’t the, proper verbage but I think you get the jest. Looking forward to this additional information to the, vlogs. Hugs from Texas!

Hi Josie, i bought the LED face and neck mask, thank you for the discount, they already had a saving on the site, so I saved twice with your discount. Did you know, you dont have to buy the expensive gel conductors, you can buy the K-Y Gel, its a brilliant conductor for all gadgets. I used to use it years ago when I had a face machine, it was recommended to us K-Y Gel.
