- From Australian Story this a story on the life of Talitha Cummins and a reformed alcoholic. This episode went to air on the 10th of October 2016 ABC TV. If you need to talk to someone you can call lifeline on 13 11 14 or beyond blue on 1300 22 46 36.
Well done, beautiful woman! My husband was an alcoholic and I know what a battle he had. After he quit drinking he was kind of embarrassed about it, to mention it in the company, especially strangers. But once he told people that he is an alcoholic and does not drink anymore, he was congratulated! Everyone admired his strength! It is truly a remarkable achievement! He was dry from April 1982 until he died in March 2015.
Talitha, thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. I am also an alcoholic and have been in recovery for 20 years. You are doing an amazing job!!!
Alcohol stole 50 years of my life. On 9/3/18 I count 6 beautiful years of sobriety and looking forward to as many more as I'm blessed to have. Talitha has a platform from which to reach millions, she is a very special person to bare her soul. Alcoholism is a disease from which none of us is exempt. Peace and Blessings to fellow alcoholics who still suffer daily. :~)

She’s so damn blessed to have those people in her life to support her. Her bravery helped push some of the less fortunate to a better life. I’d say she is a beautiful radiant sunshine.

I have battled this liquid too and have lost the fight to the point of homelessness, the only way now is up. Truly amazing story of Talitha.

Very brave lady , respect , what starts out as a drink to take the edge off can slowly become a crutch
bigmack lad and that crutch destroys everything in the end. Its a false sense of safe and help.
Everyone has a story. Talitha's would certainly indicate to others that they too can have a changed life and purpose. Well done.
My Mom's been sober now going on 50 years. AA (and herself) saved her life. To alcoholic's kids and relations the saying "Alcoholism is a disease" has a meaning I wish all could understand.
similar story, I am now 4 years sober after taking naltrexone for the first 6 months of my sobriety. The memories of ambulance trips to hospital make me cringe. Good work Talitha, and to anyone dealing with a drinking problem, there is a good deal of treatment and help available. xo

I'm so glad I found this.Alcohol has ruined my life.Like Talitha I drink for the same reasons.I just never feel ready even with all the proof in front of me.For me, its just fear and worried about panic attacks if I do not have that damn drink.I have a great partner who i know hates it but says only you can do it and only for yourself.I truly wish I get the mindset and bravery as Talitha found.
Plus nice to know your looks come back as this lady's has everything is just an up when you beat this demon.Wish me luck.Mike x

I am a Canadian who has never been to beautiful Australia but love Aussie 60 minutes and Aussie crime drama lol....Talitha your story is brave to tell...what an inspiration and a couple of major take away moments "this is the modern face of an alcoholic" high functioning, gorgeous,smart and successful"! so scary and so accurate as statement from your doc. You never know people and never know their story and I am sure many like myself found it very inspirational. Your truth and honesty was admirable. I hope you continued your career and successful private life, health and partner! Thank you
Talitha’s mother is amazing, to know your child has to want help to be able to give help. The pain we have to endure as after all we have taught our kids they throw it away and then we have to pick up the pieces, and hope they will want to have help.

So sad that we have made alcohol such a “must” have and central to all things social, when it destroys a person and families, violence at pubs and clubs, car accidents/deaths, horror.
Almost everything where I am is close right now from the Corono, but the liquor stores are still open. The perfect storm - being isolated at home, with booze.
Antabuse, yes I know it very well, helped me alot !

I wasn't an alcoholic, but would routinely drink one or two glasses each night. I stopped drinking altogether about 5 years ago for 2 reasons. I was quite poor at the time and couldn't afford it, and I worried I was using those one or two each night to wind down, that it was becoming a habit. I also was newly single and wanted to savour every moment. This lady however is a shining example of strength, being in a very different situation and not allowing it to defeat her. Well done. Your Mum is lovely btw What a beautiful person she is also. A great support

When someone knows they've become dependant on those few glasses every night and sees trouble ahead, but instead of letting it escalate or deteriorate further, nip it in the bud, they don't expect to be made fun of, oh you're fine, go ahead and drink!! FYI I did drink a lot when I was younger and have an addictive personality, was very shy and used alcohol to give me confidence. But what's your deal telling people they're fine unless they drink 4 bottles of wine? Best you don't comment, your ignorance is clear

HSM was a useful platform for me to stay accountable for my sobriety. I chose SMART Recovery but it equally supported other programs such as AA without judgement

gawd she was a hot mess but precious, whatever bloke that wasnt man enough 2deal w/ her is a dirtbag. shed be worth the emotional kray, WoW what a lady. happy 4her she got over her addiction, bein a functional addict hard AF when life hard enough. she def like the rest of us when 1doesnt cut it & 1,000 not enough

i wanna know how many guys she had been with BEFORE she was 18, that would be interesting, because she was such a beautiful and magnificent woman, i bet she dated all the extroverted jocks at school, i recken spending time with her when she was drunk would have been great, i can just imagine talitha wanting to make out while drunk with some random guy she just met, its just a shame it wasent me. she is really such an elegant woman especially in his business dress and high heels, absolutely stunning woman, she should have gone into modelling.

As fellow recovering alcoholic, this was a story I could relate to. Did anyone notice, at around 2 minutes, she's walking in high heeled shoes without a heel on her right foot? lol

One of the first things you are told in AA is NOT to get in a relationship for at least a year.

The adjective "brave" gets used a lot these days and not always accurately, but in this case the word is barely adequate.

i have a glass of wine with my food, at least three times a week, never been tempted to have more than a glass...through terrible years and difficult twenties and thirties I didnt get drunk.. why do you drink enough to make you ill, do these people have weak wills? I had an awful childhood and I was always painfully shy as a teenager even that didnt drive me to be an alcoholic or take drugs. dont understand how people want to binge drink, and the justifications they make.
