What a fantastic video, I remember these when I was a child and used to come to Morecambe with my grandparents. We usually stayed at the Ullswater hotel in Sandylands between Heysham and the leisure centre (near that big concrete pool that was filled by the sea!). The drivers were always kind enough to drop us there even though it was off the main route. I loved these trains, many happy memories. I'm sure I remember the guy in the denim jacket! I now live in Australia, but came back to the uk a year ago and visited Morecambe , I'm sure an old tractor that was parked at the Heysham boat launch ramp is one of the old beach trains. Am I right?
Morecambe Beach Trains run and built by Roy Crabtree and my self from Fordson Major tractors and Bedford TK chassis. They ran between the Stone Jetty and Heysham slipway a round trip of around three miles accross morecambe sands. At the hight of season a total of four units would run relay back and forwards. They ran from 1947-1996 until the building of the Battery Groin and the decline of the Morecambe holiday trade R.I.P. Roy & R.I.P. (Rust In Pieces) Morecambe Beach Trains, both sadly missed.
Loved those trains as a kid.
