NOTES Urban Flooding Issues . NITI Aayog: 65% cities don't have master plan . Poor urban planning --> even normal intensity rainfall can cause extreme inundation . Loss of opportunity: surplus water could be diverted to water bodies . Encroachment, plastic dumping--> clogged drainage . Infra upgradation unable to keep pace with urbanisation . Inefficient waste management . Climate change (amplifies the problem) . Absence of accountability by authorities . Limited land--> population beyond urban carrying capacity Urbanisation is irreversible in present context, thus there's an urgent need to work on solutions. Way Forward .Correct Drainage network (natural+ man made) . Regional drainage planning . Horizontal expansion (satellite towns) . Flood-adaptive Design . Focus on building resilient infrastructure rather than post-disaster response . Vulnerability analysis and prevention/adaptation strategies . Update city master plan . Learning from Japan: Tokyo drainage system
Rapid growth of urbanisation in these big cities like IT hub Bengaluru is not able to keep pace with ongoing infrastructure development. We can't put all blame on rainfall pattern, yes it is partially responsible for urban floods but primarily clogging of the drainage systems causes these floods. Currently India has the second largest urban system in the world and if India wants to be a developed nation by 2047 then we need to focus immediately on this challenge of urban flooding. Proper land use, mapping of the cities, buliding resilient architecture, water management and water governance are some solutions to end urban flooding
We also need to educate people about problems caused due to plastic littering. Most of the drainage ststem gets clogged due to the plastic, which people carelessly throw on streets. Everytime blaming the management is not the way we should also do our duty as a citizen. This small change in attitude can contribute greater in making our cities/ towns/villagesmore resilient to floods.
Very insightful discussion on Urban Planning. Urban planning is the need of the hr now in Modern cities which can lead us to Sustainable Development n Growth.
URBANISATION NEEDS STANDARDISATION India is a developing nation and the reason why it has more challenges be it security, health , education etc, India needs to take care of this if it really wants to stand in the world stage. And in between this it is also true that the nation is having more villages as compared to urban but that is turning now as the pace at which India's expenditure and demand is increasing , its sure that in next few years we will be called as a nation of urban land. URBANISATION is expanding in india but the actual growth needs to be checked . Actual growth means here that the urbanisation is planned with proper walking space , green space , parks , free flow of drainage system etc and for that the govt has to intervene. Big cities like Patna , Guwahati, Lucknow, Delhi etc etc are expanding where lands are being sold and house is being made which should not be the case as due to this the planned urban with proper drainage, road etc is impossible. Therefore its need of the hour for the govt officials to check on these area where urbanisation is likely be happening in short span of time. Bangluru is the IT capital of india but the mismanagement has made the scenario worse in rain . We need a proper infrastructure in our cities roads must be above drains rather than drain being above the road. This way we can stop congestion and chaos and make urban an actual urban.

Congratultions for the apt and very insightful discussion. However, very few suggestions received for the way ahead.Owing to the Climate change, we need to address this unrgently by monitoring the Master plan of the Cities, Evacuation of the low lying areas ahead of the monsoon to avoid loss of life and property and the new patterns and designs of planning to avoid these situation like sponge cities, Building & Planning of the infrastructure to avoid clogging of the drainage and the roads. The question is to address these issues in advance like UK,Japan ,Singapore and also include the newer methods of holding the water in areas closer to it like society , combined apartments and regulate the respective zones in the cities for disaster management from the point of view of resilience.
Causes of banglore urban flood :- 1. improper drainage 2. increasing urbanisation and neglecting planning . 📌resilience required ... Post management will not do . 📌india 2nd largest urban system 📌Master plan makeing , timely review and proper implimentation 📌banglore needs special attention ... Development is fine , only thing we need is sustainable development . 📌prevention:- allow water recharge to aquifers , by proper infra & Building design. Proper drainage. 📌traffic situation is also needed to be improved , as iT Hub employees can't afford to waste 2 to 3 hrs per day in jam . 😎😎 📌📌📌📌📌

Poor nations don't have standards unless they have required resources.

i would like to request to increase timing
Sattelite towns, horizantally, storm water challenges, climate resilient infra, niti aayog urban planning capacity report, 2nd largest urbanised country, pull factors push factors (migrations) bng-attracts more, water management governance, studies on urban carrying capacity, unscientific infra development
Right discussion with wrong people...
People.....
Very lucrative perspective for communication skills. ✨✨✨
LONG LIVE INDIA AND ALL INDIANS
Urban population and the amount of waste generation are far more than the existing drainage capacity.
Thanks Sansad TV
