From 'York Castle Museum'.
The best version of 'Silent Night' ever recorded; so gentle and so heart-felt. The Spinners were just great musicians! Love and peace.
Have to watch this every year to remind me of times when Christmas was something to look forward to.
Thank you so much for these beautiful memories x
God bless everyone reading this 🙏💙
I remember watching their show every Christmas Eve from the Liverpool Philharmonic. Wonderful memories.
I grew up listening to the Spinners, with .y Dad. Something lovely a out their tone and joy that just makes you feel good
I love this. I never really had heard of the spinners until lockdown. Wish more of their shows were available on UA-cam.
Just come across this, I loved the Spinners, saw them 3 times at Guildhall, Southampton. Feeling nostalgic now
Promised myself that I would watch this on Christmas Eve of this year, 2020. Brought back many happy memories at the end of a terrible year.........so nice to see 'the lads' together as they were. Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
My mother was a friend of
The Spinners in London in the 60s. Her name was Rosetta McKenna and she was a Belfast child. ❤
Thank you
There are no words for how much I LOVE this! The Spinners always make my christmas. I was lucky enough to see their reunion christmas tour when I was about 4 years old and it's one of my earliest and fondest memories.
Thank you for sharing, so evocative of my childhood Christmases.
I loved these guys and can always remember the advert of being a blood donor, bring back these days.
I was a huge fan of the Spinners! I saw them live a couple of times and had all their LP’s
Thanks for this
Me too. Mum has loads of their vinyl albums! They even gave me a mention at a concert in Northampton, on my 10th birthday (I am now 57!)
Wow! Haven't heard this for 35 years. Was even beginning to wonder if this song really did exist or not. 🎄
This is fabulous!! We had Sing Out Shout With Joy album as kids and played it every single year, I had it put on cd and play it every Christmas even now, just wouldn’t be the same without it...I love the Spinners , such beautiful harmonious music x
Being from Liverpool myself I had their EP The singing city, this takes me back to my childhood
This is so gentle and lovely.
So farewell then Big Tony - and thanks for all the happy memories.
Oh no! I didn't know that Tony Davis had passed away!
He was (believe it or not!) 86 years old and treated his fans to a New Orleans style send-off complete with jazz band and colourful master of ceremony at Warrington crematorium.
He was, believe it or not, 86 years old! And he treated his fans to a New Orleans style send-off complete with New Orleans marching band and colourful master of ceremony. It was a real privilege to be at Warrington crematorium to witness it.
A great send-off for a great man!
I loved watching The Spinners on the tv in the 70's with my grandmother as she was a fan, too. She passed away almost 12 years ago, and now, every time I hear them, I think of her and smile.
I found out about The Spinners when I was at Liverpool University in the '60s and although at least two of them are now no more I still find them great entertainment and this makes my Christmas
I am like most so glad this has been uploaded to UA-cam. I grew up on the spinners and watching this brings back memories of my Christmas. thank you.
My joint favourite group along with The Dubliners and here they are singing my school song, The Boars Head Carol. The school was Francis Bacon Grammar in St Albans and the badge was a boar's head. Steeleye Span also used to sing it. A truly fantastic group and like The Dubs their music will go on forever. I am slightly biased as I had a Scouse grandmother!
I grew up listening these guys every Christmas and now its impossible to find the album 'Sing out Shout with Joy' by them, so thanks! Its not Christmas without the Spinners!
I always like the spinners music all had meaning nothing like it now
They were fabulous.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I saw them live a few times and their Christmas concert was wonderful, full of joy and laughter.
Thanks so much for sharing. What a wonderful group. So many memories of their fantastic concerts!
learned how to play guitar watching and listening to the spinners great stuff.
I used to go to all their concerts. They were the best folk group. The only complaint-they were rarely on tv. Thank goodness I have their CDs. I only wish that they could perform again. I was so sorry to hear about Cliff.
Thank you sooo much for posting this. I loved going to their concerts at the Leicester De Montfort Hall, packed out every time. Still see Hughie on the folk circuit. How can two people dislike this!!
Joyous! Just makes Christmas. 😃
I remember this fondly. Thanks so much for uploading it.
I do remember this on tv.
That's me sorted for Christmas now 🤗
Thanks for the response Jimmy, I really appreciate and enjoy your posts, especially the Spinners posts.
This is ace! I grew up listening to these 4 Guys and they were a massive influence. My only question is why are none of the other shows ever seen, or did the 'Beeb' in its infinite wisdom wipe them too. Likewise, nothing on CD and the back catalogue is vast. As commented already, Christmas isn't the same without them
Steve Merrett Most likely the last director of the beeb did, he was very "anti" to light entertainment from all accounts. I just pray that their shows were saved somewhere and can be recovered, restored and uploaded to help people learn how great The Spinners are.
I just remember that on the rare occasions they were on the Beeb it was always very late at night. Why are they never mentioned? They were the best of the many folk groups that sprouted up.
Yes brilliant
Where on earth do you get these from? Brilliant just brilliant. Bringing back fond memories.
w
spinners great
can you try and put the audio version of the wind is blowing on here please
Sure
Does anyone know if this song was on one of their CDs
+Joanne McCann I have this as a vinyl single. I always have it on at Christmas. Love it so much.
Mulligan and O'Hare?
Where was this recorded.
Roy Tabberer The Castle Museum , York. I went with school in 1981, and then again with my missus and daughter in 2005, it hadn't changed one bit. Great setting for a great programme.
