Sade was by far, I mean no comparison, the best singer I ever saw live. You could feel the music in your stomach. There were grown men crying next to me. She was absolutely breathtaking.
that's it, she pulls tears out of you, whoever you are.. the only other singer able to do that to me was Nina Simone, (in a more tragic way .. )

@@christianWilliams-pc4jn OMG can we please stop with these silly comparisons. Sade and Whitney are in two different lanes. Many many others than can keep up with Whitney and match her note to note. Lisa Fischer, Rachelle Ferrell, Phyllis Hyman, Wendy Moten, etc. etc. etc. Will I bring them up in a Whitney video, NO, because they all have their own, unique singing style. Whitney possessed an unrivaled tone, but Sade has a very beautiful one too. Let's appreciate them for what they had to offer and the fact that, sadly, talents like them will never be promoted in the business again.

Yes, Whitney had an undeniable gift, but you can't say she was better than everyone and everything. Whitney wouldn't be able to do a Sade song as good as Sade, nor can Sade do a Whitney song as good as Whitney. Like I said, two different lanes and both of them represent the very best on their respective genres. Let me also remind you that when Whitney came out, people weren't necessarily fond of her. They didn't see her as refined a gem as let's say, Aretha, Donna Summer or Shirley Bassey, to give out a few examples. Overtime, her voice matured and people embraced her talent and then IWALY came along and catapulted her status. But it wasn't always smooth road for her.

So while 60 million may not seem like much (next to 200 million), it's still a very impressive, almost unobtainable figure for a non-mainstream artist. And yes, while I agree that she's not necessarily the best of the best live, I'm totally fine with any fan saying she's the best, because, to them, she is the best. And hey, I'd rather have someone say Sade is the best singer ever than mentioning Ariana Grande, Adele, JHud, Adam Lambert or any of the newfangled "singers" for that matter. Sade was/is very very talented, and I'd take her over anything these days!
I saw her live in Madison Square Garden in 2001. When she sang the Empire State Part, the roof came off the building! I maxed out a credit card to see her, and it was the best decision I ever made!

I might say something strange. But this song has a very incredible specific ability: to make silence sound amazing. Don't twist it ahaha I mean that the pauses before Sade introduces you to the verses with her voice are (to me) the most exciting part of the song. Because there, in those pauses, you can hear the excitement and anticipation and patience of the whole band and of Sade too. To me, to know to just wait in the silent moment is one of the most important skills for a musician. They are perfect.

@Paul Carr You have to keep in mind that Sade is the name of the band and as she has stated, she is not a solo artist like the mainstream female crap.. This is an entire band that have been together since the early 80´s (She, the guitar/sax player and the bass player..)
She started as their backing vocalist and was later asked to take the role of lead singer. This band hasen´t been formed around her..
I am 24 years old. The first time I heard this song was when I was 7 years old. I cannot get over how much her voice STILL gives me chills.

Bought the LP "Promise" when it came out for this tune. Sade's voice is magical, and only the LP does the album justice. A CD doesn't do the acoustics of the band justice. Great to see her in concert.

Me too, I'm about to turn 14. My mother introduced me to her, when she showed me Smooth Operator and it was so mesmerizing. I don't know what it is, but the music, her voice, maybe even her aura puts a total spell on me.

When she came on the scene she was totally different than anyone out at that time, her voice was sultry and the music was so relaxed and chill. Looking at this video now in 2020 it's clear that I never realized the "barefoot jazz lady" was actually mesmeriizingly beautiful, just flawless... her face, her body, her voice, just WOW!

there are plenty of artists that exhibit all of that nowadays, you just have to be willing to give them a listen! also, auto tune is a modern advancement, it doesn’t automatically strike out an artist as in creative or untalented, there are various ways to channel both of those things within your work if the passion is truly there. much love!

I had the pleasure of seeing her concert in Philadelphia (Mann music center) in the summer of 1988. The evening weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor amphitheater concert. I was with a young lady whom I’m still in love with. (Were not together now but Still, I long for her☹️). Sade walked out, sang all of her hits and left the crowd wanting so much more. It was one of those magical summer nights that you never forget. I relive it in my 57 year old mind often.

Sade...one of my favorites, that I can fall asleep listening to her singing. Her voice is a combination of blues and so soulful. Sade tells a story in all of her songs and sings as if she personally singing to someone.
