- "I don't really wanna do the work today" has become one of the biggest memes on the internet. But how did a low-budget, scrappy, and rebellious theatre troupe named Team Starkid perfect the art of making viral hits?

I hope you all enjoy this introduction and brief overview of Starkid! Don't worry, much deeper dives will be on the way :)
I'm begging you to cover Raggedy Ann/Rag Dolly!!! They only had FOUR MONTHS to stage AND write the whole show, and eventually, when it got to broadway, it closed after 3 days, jut like carrie!!! It has one of the most interesting production history I've ever seen. I highly recommend you check it out!!!
HOORAY! Been waiting on someone to do a Starkid deep-dive!
The first thing I was gonna comment after this video was how you should totally do more of these. I wish you luck, my friend, on your Starkid video deep dive venture.
heck yeah! I was about to say I was hoping for a much longer StarKid video :D Excited to see more in the future!
MORE STARKID.
You missed the biggest reason theyre appealing. They use the same actors, who all inhabit their own trope. To the point that they are a boy-band of musical troupes. Every fan will have their favorite starkid and be excited about who is cast in what role.
Yo, congrats- your point was mentioned in the video about TTO!
It's been really cool to see what the Starkid team has gone on to do. Darren Criss (Harry Potter) is an Emmy winner for playing Andrew Cunanan on American Crime Story. Mariah Rose Faith (who was in The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals) starred as Regina George on the national tour of Mean Girls. AJ Holmes (wrote the music for Twisted and Very Potter Musical) has been a regular Elder Cunningham on tours and Broadway for Book of Mormon. Carlos Valdes (also a Starkid composer) was a lead on CW's The Flash. and the Lang Brothers wrote a TV show for Quibi (RIP)
you're telling me cisco was a part of starkid this whole time and i never knew??
@@orbitalpudding3420 Yep! He was the bass player in the pit for AVPM and MAMD, and co-wrote the music for MAMD. He also sang the closing credits version of "A Thousand And One Nights" with Britney Coleman!
CISCO WAS IN STARKID?!?!?!
Also, Britney Coleman is currently understudying about 5 roles on Broadway's production of Company. I think she might also be in the chorus?
I saw AJ doing Elder Cunningham here in Melbourne Australia. Didn’t realise at first and it made the entire first half super annoying as I tired to figure it out.
joey richter who played ron weasley in a very potter musical plays villain time jerker in nickelodeon shows henry danger and danger force
Also, slight correction: The original AVPM _was_ titled "Harry Potter: The Musical" when it was first uploaded onto YT, and it _was_ the unedited version. They took down the videos after they started becoming viral in fear that Warner Bros could come after them for copyright. Eventually they reuploaded the edited show and titled it as AVPM
they also posted it on fb first, i have the clips
how did they edit it?
@@CHLOCHLOLP They took down the video before editing it. Also you can edit your vid while it's up using youtube edit if im not mistaken
@@CHLOCHLOLP Basically, they just took out some of the more risky jokes. I had watched it multiple times before they changed the name/edited it, and I remember I was bummed that they cut some of the jokes when they re-uploaded it. But its been so long now, I can't even remember what they cut
@@gracexcon one joke I remember is when they were under the invisibility cloak and Hermione complained that someone's "wand" was poking her
Also, another fun meme fact: Meredith is also the girl who forms her hair into the numbers of the New Year every year!
it's not a new year until she does it!
WHAAAAT
I saw that meme for the first time this year and I was like MEREDITH?!
Is there a link ? I can’t find it anywhere.
It's very important to mention that Lauren Lopez married Joey Richter (Ron Weasley from AVPM)
they aren't married yet, just engaged
Wait I just realized, that means that Ron and Draco stopped fighting over Hermione and fell for each other
@@brandonm1708 omg! they're falling in love, falling in love, falling in love..🎵
Damn how did I not know that?
I love how in The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, Ted was all “the LATTE HOTTAY, ya know? MAH WIFE” because 1 Lauren was actually his wife and then 2 it turned out that he wasn’t even talking about Emma(Lauren’s character)
Starkid means the absolute world to me. I’ve been a fan for about ten years now and I care more about their Very Potter Trilogy than actual Harry Potter
I was one of those kids who wasn’t allowed to watch Harry Potter growing up. Eventually, I watched Harry Potter just so I could understand the references in the musicals better 😅
That is somewhat similar to my sister as I’d takes about the musicals so much she wanted to watch them but she’d never read or watched Harry Potter so she read all of the books so she would understand the musicals
AVPM is genuinley better than JK Rowlings attempt at theater so yeah.
A Very Potter Musical is genuinely funny and the premise is super original, but I truly believe that both from a narrative and and character-development standpoint, A very potter sequel is much better as a work of fiction than anything Rowling has ever written.
@@CHLOCHLOLP is a savage but he’s not wrong for once.
I think “Trail to Oregon” was my favorite because the jokes and music were fun to watch though the newer stuff they’ve done is very interesting. Like “Black Friday” and “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” had some “Little Shop of Horror” vibes but also seemed to be setting up a larger plot for later content.
Twisted is definitely my favorite but firebringer will always hold a special place in my heart as the first starkid musical I saw
That’s because they absolutely were! Bf & tgwdlm are in the same hatchetfield universe but different timelines. They also have 12 read throughs of short films type things. In the same hatchetfield universe staring almost entirely characters from the past musicals. The first 6 are on UA-cam for free right now!
Trail To Oregon is so good because when you look at it as an adaptation of the computer game, you find that it has a lot of clever details.
The audience naming the characters. Like in the game
The ending changing every time. Like in the game
The watchers (players) actually controlling the fate of the characters (choosing who dies in the family)
Even Joey Richter playing all the other characters is a clever nod to the fact that game animators will use the same design over and over again with minor characters (i know it's just because the Starkid team was split between this and Ani, but i stand by my trivia)
I can't believe that Starkid actually made a good video game adaptation
Fun fact! Oregon trail was their first step to making those musicals, none of them thought it would out do twisted which was on during the same summer
Nice job on this! As a former Starkid superfan (I still love them but I'm not nearly as obsessed now lol) I did want to mention that the Book of Mormon cast probably did the dance because AJ Holmes was in the BOM cast at the time and he's a Starkid member! If I remember correctly he wrote the music for Twisted and was in Me and My Dick and A Very Potter Senior Year. I'd love to see you do more of a deep dive on Starkid. :)
AJ was actually in BoM a few years before this meme took off, but everything else is accurate!
Also, AJ at least preformed the music in AVPM!
Just a note, Zazzalil was not Lauren's first female role. She played Taz and Buggette in Starship!
But Buggette and Taz were not LEAD female roles.
And Little White Lie
@@Black-Swan-007 yeah true but he said that it was the first time she played a female character and had a leading role. So that’s what Ramona was noting.
@@Black-Swan-007 she played frodo in their Lord of the rings musical before avpm even happened, which was her first lead! I don't think it got put on youtube though
@@Black-Swan-007 i would argue that taz is a lead role tbh even if buggette obviously isnt
I weirdly enough discovered Starkid just about a few weeks ago here on UA-cam, I got randomly recommended “The guy who did not like musicals” absolutely phenomenal show and is now really my favorite musical. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that much before
This was me in september! So good, and it has a weirdly large audience for the little I hear about it. Jve been hearing about hufflepuffs being finders for 5-6 years before I discovered AVAP for example.
I saw it live in L.A. AMA
Cool! I discovered it last month when Twisted was randomly recommended to me.
Same here! Though the timeframe in which I discovered Starkid was in the middle of 2021. I was randomly recommended an animatic (a REALLY good one, by the way) for Cup Of Roasted Coffee/Poison from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. I liked the song so much that I decided to find the musical it had originated from, and once I watched TGWDLM I immediately fell in love with the Starkid video series. Those videos, with their unique brand of clever humour and entertaining content, got me through the boredom of staying in lockdown.
I adore The Guy who didn't like musicals and it's follow up shows. I only got into their back catalogue after and I'm still not as fond of the parody shows as I am their own writing. Firebringer is a gem
I actually remember this meme coming from Vine. And you can see that in UA-cam Vine compilations this video still keeps coming back. Anyways love this dive in Starkid and I will keep coming back for the future Starkid videos.
I was about to say that...lol reddit users claiming another meme
same ! i had to pause the video and question my memories for a sec because i definitely remember it being viral on vine too
i was gonna say, i 100% saw it blow up on vine which died in 2016 so it was big before all of what is said in the video
tik tok was still musical,ly in 2017 it didnt had anything to do with this meme lol
Same that's how I found it, in a compilation
I remember being so confused when my sister referenced this before going to work one afternoon back when it first went viral. How did my non-musicals fan sister possibly know this niche moment from a Starkid show!? Needless to say, it was very funny when we figured out what was going on.
Lauren and other Starkids members often talk about the need for artists to be paid well so they can make a living without having to keep three different jobs, basically that art is also a job and they deserve wages. That's why the meme money joke, during the 2020 election she joked a little more about it with Meredith
Meredtih keep a really good channel on youtube where she posts some very nice vlogs to watch. In one of them she answers about the composition of I don't really wanna do the work and explains that she composed the song for fun when she was in college (I think) and that at the time it was the same rhythm but with a "dirty lyric"
I want to see the musicals in the alternate universe where they named it Moonshoes Productions
I don't recommend it. There Them and JKR, basically switched places. Sadly, in alternate reality - it's Moonshoes that are transphobic, while Cursed Child, considered the best part of HP lore...
I came from that universe, it sucks! There Russians are not even Nazis, that thread us with nukes, like what the fuck?!
Fun fact: that's what it's called at Pigfarts.
Dear Nick Lang,
I will never lose interest in StarKid. Though life may get in the way sometimes, and I may discover new fun, interesting things, StarKid will always have a place in my heart. I'm certain many others feel the same way.
Sincerely,
Oscar Gill
I’ll let him know. 😉
@@rustycarbaugh9433 Thanks. Also tell him that the Hatchetfield universe is one of the most fascinating literary premises I've ever seen.
Thank you Oscar, very cool!
The reaction to Firebringer blows me away.. it’s so well done through and through, I see no problem with the script. It was SO much more interesting because it DID actually have a story to tell, instead of parodying or retelling something that’s already been done.. the people that didn’t like it must have been all about the nostalgia of the other plays and couldn’t get into something original. I’ve been with Starkid from the get go and feel like they’ve only grown and improved over the years ❤️
It also has the best music of any starkid musical, in my opinion (even more so than twisted). The harmonies are just incredible.
I also love the feminist and queer themes of the musical. Definitely my favorite starkid musical, even though it's less funny than some of the others.
I stage managed a production of Firebringer last semester and boy is this song an earworm (only now when I get this in my head, I get the whole song in my head). Also, Work To Do isn't *technically* the opening number of the show, it's just the first with all the actors actually in character. Fire and We Are People Now are at the very beginning and set the scene.
"Time is a precious thread in the fabric of the universe. It deserves its own tool of meASureMeNT!"
I was hoping you would eventually do a video about Starkid! :D What a fun surprise. Can't wait to see more!
watching this video feels like hearing a description of your religion from someone who didn’t even know about that religion until they started researching it a week ago for a paper they had to write.
I will forever stand by my opinion that Holy Musical Batman is iconic and the most underappreciated Starkid musical
Agreed. It's so entertaining (yet also has some emotional depth). I'm also always super impressed at all the candy puns and props -- like, how much rehearsal/practice did that take?!
ani beats hmb for most underrated (it's the only one i haven't watched, mainly due to my lack of interest in star wars) but i always see it ranked lower than hmb. the few songs I've heard are bops and it seems like a really unique way of doing a musical, but it never seems to get much appreciation from the fanbase, whereas i feel hbm is talked about a lot more.
I love solely because it’s the only Batman and Robin pairing I genuinely like
I will forever maintain that Be More Chill is just a PG-13 version of MAMD.
@@leilanyxI watched Ani. And after finishing it, I literally couldn't tell you a single character, joke, line, or song from the entire thing. For comparison, I watched AVPM once and after 2 years could still quote entire scenes and songs. It's been 10 years and I've watched it maybe twice? Three times? And I know every word to the opening song and still quote lines from it regularly.
Hell for a better comparison, I watched Starship, which is also pretty underrated, once like 5 years ago?? And I can still sing at least 2 of the songs and remember the general plot.
There's no feeling quite like GOTTA GET BACK TO HOGWARTSSSS GOTTA GET BACK TO SCHOOOLLLL
GOTTA GET BACK TO HOGWARTS
WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS I'M COOOOOOOOOL
the first chord of avpm is a dopamine hit like NOTHING else
Imagine musicals actually filming their show so more people can see it?
And not just uploading it to a Broadway streaming service where you gotta pay to see it
Funny thing is, that meme got me into starkid. I heard the meme being played over and over again so I decided to check it out for myself and found said, "Oh it's from a musical." and so I found out what musical it was and it was Firebringer. So I watched it and got into starkid
Same here! It kept popping up in vine compilations and finally I got curious
Same! I saw was obsessed with vines and would quote "I don't wanna do the work today" and thought it was Broadway or something but then found it all on youtube
6:17 slight correction! Lauren Lopez played both Taz and Buggette in Starship, both of which were female characters, Taz is just a super butch woman
You mean she was TOUGH!
But those weren't LEAD female roles.
They started their own theater company out of college, but the true benchmark of success was memeability xD I'm not surprised that they didn't react much to the meme, since honestly the hype for AVPM back then was a lot more shocking. They were memes when memes were only just starting to be a thing, so maybe it's even nostalgic lol Nice to hear some updates about what they're up to now! ^^ I saw them perform at Elsie Fest like two years ago, and even though there were some really great performers there (Cynthia Erivo omg magical), the crowd SHOWED UP for Starkid. Sharing a stage with award winning actors/singers, getting the loudest screams, everyone singing along to every song from a 10 year old youtube musical. It was a crazy moment. They were like rock stars.
Also once Jake Tapper tweeted about the president using a Holy Musical B@man reaction gif, which was liked by Mark Hamill, and that's when I knew the internet had truly broken.
i hope you do a deep dive into their 'hatchetfield' series! it's incredible and so much different to the potter musicals
Thanks for making this!!! Being a part of StarKid has been a highlight of my career!!
Can’t wait for you to dive deeper into their stuff because (esp their newer stuff) is really genuinely good and deserves to be taken more seriously!
I love Starkid so much. I was lucky enough to be a part of the AVPM era and have been following them ever since. I absolutely love how much success they’ve had and how high their production value has become, but there will always be a part of me that misses the chaotic and less planned out days of their early years
Starkid was a HUGE deal through middle school and well into high school. I graduated in 2016 and on a quiet day in 11th grade English half the class sang the 10-minute opening number all the way through.
Just wanted to mention that they still do the cross casting. For example, Jaime played Sherman Young in Black Friday and Kendall played Tim
Firebringer has some really kick-ass music, and the twist at the end is really one you don't see coming. I think it's pretty powerful, actually, and the most beautiful song in the Starkid repertoire.
I swear I transcended the first time I heard it.
the fact that they almost cut the chorn twist because they thought it would be too obvious
I hope they go into what some of the alums have been up to now. I didn't know much about Starkid until i found the Tin Can Bros & their show Spies Are Forever (which is such a fun show) & their work with Shipwrecked Comedy
Right… fun *sounds of crying*
I always feel kinda bad cuz I never hopped on the Starkid train(despite being a teenage nerd on tumblr in the early 2010's) and now the only reason I'm going back and checking it out is because I've been told the people who made/are making Starry: The Musical were once part of it and that musical lives in my brain so hard it's charging my conciousness rent.
These guys make AMAZING independent productions!!! They have proven time and again that theatre has a life on the internet. By the way, Fire bringer is best Starkid show 😉
This meme was my introduction to Starkid back in 2018. And as the first one of their productions I watched, Firebringer holds a special place in my heart ❤️ Thanks for covering this!
I’ve been re-listening to some older Starkid soundtracks these last few days (Twisted and Starship, predominately) and it just brought me back to how truly amazing the talent on their team is. It kind of astounds me that, despite going viral and having so much success, they’re still not as known as one would expect. I hope that changes and we start to see them doing tours again- but this time bringing some of their staged productions that we could only watch online to different cities.
I mean one of the most comforting corners of youtube is fan-made meme videos of Starkid musicals ❤️
Firebringer wasn't Lauren's first time playing a female. Her characters in Starship were also female. It just happened that her primary Starship character was very masculine. Definitely a girl though!
As a fan since 2010 and one of Firebringer's backers I'm SO HAPPY with this video
The fact that I've seen Firebringer multiple times but I never EVER encountered the clip out of context shows that my plans to stay away from social media are working great and I should keep at it. Life is so much better without twitter and tiktok XD
I've been a starkid fan since february of 2010!!! it's so funny watching the internet learn who lauren lopez and meredith stepien are every couple of months lol
I was first introduced to Starkid after seeing an Animatic for Cup of Roasted/Poisoned Coffee on TheatreTube and then suddenly I was launched into this world of cheesy musicals and now I'm neck deep in Starkid and the Nightmare Time series
that clip of firebringer is how I discovered starkid and now I've been a huge fan for years, I've watched every single one of their musicals because of a few seconds long clip
As someone who was part of Starkid fandom from 2009-2012 and went to numerous in person events with them, as well as attended Starship in person and ABPSY at LeakyCon 2012, plus various other things…this brought back war flashbacks.
Also, there was Drama in 2016 within the fandom and I mean DRAMA. So…if you want to know what happened, ask me. I have a few ins.
@@BrianaMichelleMeyer what was it??
@@knightloveslesbians oh people were angry that Starkid was doing a musical instead of attending GeekyCon.
so happy to see how much Starkid has progressed since AVPM... Progress pleases The Duck
Starkid is my favorite musical group, I wish more musical theater fanatics knew about them 😭
Hey I remember Lauren shared a video on ig of when when the cast of Cinderella did the song with "i don't wanna do the ball" as lyrics. they loved it
even though I started to know and love Starkid due to their Very Potter Musical/ Sequal - my favourite production is the guy that didn't like musicals :D
Lol watching this like I HAVEN'T been a Team Starkid fan since AVPM.
GREAT video!! I’ve loved starkid since AVPS and its so nice to see them get the recognition they deserve
this video made me realized that i've known about starkid since 2009, and also made me realize 2009 was 13 years ago
Duck is Lord!
even at their lowest in 2017, they still had my middle school friend obsessed, and she printed the entire script of fire finger and got us to practice
AVPM will always be my favourite for all of these creatives, my favourite take on HP, and the best interpretation of a villain in the form of tap-dancing Voldemort
Wait Lauren’s first role as a girl was Firebringer? I thought her role in Starship was
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! Up rescued Taz after robots attacked her quinceañera.
Yeah, no, he was wrong. Lauren's characters were female in Starship and Little White Lie prior to Firebringer.
i think he meant a lead female role, but little white lies is also a lead role i'm pretty sure. unless this was just for stage shows.
FINALLY! A video that explains one of my favorite memes AND one of my favorite musicals! I watched the entire thing after the meme came out, and I had always wondered about it but never really researched. HERE WE ARE YEARS LATRER THO, so thank you for this!! Just gained a new subscriber! :)
The fact that this never mentioned Vine as another source of its social media popularity shocked me- I always knew it as a vine! It was in the many vine compilations here on UA-cam as a classic
Oh how I hope you guys will talk about Tin Can Brothers, especially Spies are Forever!!
I have been a very long time starkid fan and I love and appreciate its more attention. But also I like this video and how it was put together, so thankyou
Me, already knowing Starkid: Go on...
I was such a fan of the Potter Musical when it went viral hahaa, I was just explaining this viral song to my coworker literally yesterday haha
My older sister (who is decidedly not a theater person) started singing this when she was visiting for the holidays, and it took everything in me not to be possessive and say something like, “you can’t sing that if you haven’t even seen Firebringer,” or, “excuse you, pour some respect on Lauren Lopez’s name, please and thank you.”
recently Starkid did VHS Christmas Carol and it was a livestream and at the end there was a talkback and Corey L kept playing "I don't really wanna do the work today" whenever Lauren spoke and she got really annoyed and it was very funny
I was in another livestream and missed this nooooo
Excited for future Starkid videos!!! Thank you for pointing out that tone shift. I'd been a fan of Starkid since 2012 but I didn't realize that there was a reason I wasn't into Firebringer when it first came out.
Lauren Lopez deserves more lead roles, she is the best in the team and the fact she keeps being relegated to secondary cast is atrocious
Shes a lead in The Guy Who didnt Like Musicals
Jamie Lyn Beatty, Corey Dorris be like: Yeah...
Also, did you just called Draco freaking Malfoy, a Secondary cast?!
Man, Starkid… I’ve always had such mixed feelings about Firebringer because yes, the music was really strong at some points, like “Work to Do” and “Change in the Climate” (my favorite number from the show) but the overall delivery of the story just didn’t land for me. Molag as a narrator wasn’t as funny as they’d hoped and the story was kind of slow paced as certain points.
Their next show, “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” surprised me with how much better it landed. The music and story were equally strong and it quickly became a favorite of mine.
“Black Friday”, on the other hand… I haven’t given a second watch since it debuted. I was so disappointed by this one. None of the jokes landed and the music left no impression. I was especially sad because Dylan Saunders returned for the first time since “Twisted” (probably my favorite Starkid show) and I was excited to see him on stage again.
You and I have very similar Starkid tastes! Agree, agree, agree, on all of it!
I felt the same way about Firebringer and Black Friday (with the exception of Feast or Famine. I will never get tired of that song). But yeah, I definitely think TGWDLM and Twisted are my top two.
I remember seeing this meme probably sometime around 2018 on Instagram and thinking it was hilarious. Then TGWDLM was released and I stumbled upon it on UA-cam and became a huge fan! It’s crazy how they and their musicals just appear in different places sometimes, like some of their members being on TV or Josh and Angela being a part of Smosh. They’re everywhere!
Starkid is my favorite theater company! Thanks for covering them!
The meme was what got me into watching the starkid musicals, and Firebringer remains my favourite musical of theirs
I think my biggest bragging right will always be that Joey Ritcher went to my high school so we were able to put on AVPM
Unfortunately I wasn’t a theater kid at the time so I regret never getting to see our production 🙃
My entire middle school experience, the more I look back on it, was defined by Starkid. I saw the Space Tour and Apocalyptour live, my friends and I had a binder full of lyrics from the shows that we would sing during lunch (while dodging the food wrappers and grapes people would throw at us, not undeservingly so)... this show brought a huge part of my youth back to me in a way that I wasn't expecting. So thank you ❤️
"Firebringer" is the show that Team Starkid has licensed the most to theater groups to perform.
YESSSS we love Starkid appreciation!!!
Awesome video! (btw they still do cross casting, I recall they cast a girl to play Tom’s son in Black Friday)
I don't know if this was only on livestreams but Lauren does end up talking about it from time to time. It's basically the same reaction on the tweet, joking about all the money they don't get from being a meme. Thanks for the video!
This meme was what brought Starkid into my radar and I am so happy to have discovered them and be a part of this fandom to this day
amazing video!! firebringer was such a fasicinating success but i would love to see you do a deep dive into the success into the hatchetfield series. being a very active member of the fandom now, it's interesting seeing how things have changed since even just the firebringer days.
also!!! lauren's tiktok didn't exist when the video originally went viral. she only began posting last year.
You did a wonderful job with your storytelling. Subscribing 👏🏽
AAHHH YES!!! starkid seriously saved my life, without them i might not be here today ❤️
its funny bc the "what if i tried something new and it BACKFIRED" part also got popular. not as popular but it was used on tiktok as a sound for a while
AHHHHHH FINALLY A SK EPISODE!!!!
I've always loved Team Starkid, this is just so cool.
I’m glad you talked about Starkid.
I'm not going to stop asking for a video on Be more chill until you make one
Oh, my goodness, I had NEVER heard of Starkid and Firebringer until a few weeks ago when I saw "I don't wanna do the work today" as a reel on IG. Just made my own reel for homeschool moms. I must have been under a musical theater rock the last decade. lol!
Yes, love to see the start of a Starkid deep dive!
I'll never forget watching AVPM on youtube over a decade ago and now I have such proud mom feels about Darren and so many other Starkid alumi.
A WAIT IN THE WINGS EPISODE?? ON STARKID??? AW YEEEEEAHHHH
Every time I see the meme on like Instagram I want to message the person, like do know that’s from Starkid, have you seen firebringer!? I think it’s a great sound bite and totally relatable I just wish the creators were getting more recognition for it!!
I've loved Starkid since AVPM! Great video.
I love the starkid shows so much
I literally only knew about starkid from the meme, from that I started watching all the plays and felt in love with it!
I never understand internet phenomena once they hit reddit so thank you for breaking that down for us!
I never got into Starkid back in its 2010s Tumblr heyday because I thought their "parody" works were just okay (I was a snobbish Broadway nerd), but Firebringer really captured me. The plot does drag a bit but it has some of the best songs they've ever made imo. Sad to know they were disheartened by the mediocre traction Firebringer got, but really happy more people are discovering it now because of the meme.
i don't know how many you've seen since or prior to posting this, but i really recommend checking out twisted! it's one of, if not their best, both parody-wise and musical-wise, and really feels like it should be on broadway :) obviously if you've already seen it feel free to ignore this comment, lmao.
@@leilanyx I swear Twisted was just Dylan's audition tape for Broadway.
Please do more vids on Starkid. This was a very well done analysis.
Oh Starkid, such memories.
When I was in Annie in early 2010, we would sing the songs from AVPM while we were getting ready for the show. Ever since then I've loved them
Part of the popularity must have a lot to do with that flawless sarcastic tone and delivery.
