Great instructions! I'm a 75-year-old female and a Technodolt, and your directions nailed the solution to my problem: I got an error message saying "yellow cartridge damaged or missing." Not true - it was new. I followed your directions exactly except that I didn't wait 24-48 hours for the cartridge holder to dry, as I needed the printer to function right away for a project I'm working on. So I used a hair dryer. Thank you, Brandon!
Ok so I had some of the issues listed below and I was able to fix it without buying a new print head. So here goes, I soaked the head as shown in the video in 91% alcohol overnight. Let it air dry and then reinstalled everything. No printing, error messages galore. I took it out to check everything and decided maybe it needed to be soaked again. Then I came and read the comments. So I decided to remove it from the alcohol and put it in distilled water and swish it around for about 5 minutes. Took it out, shook it off, then proceeded to air dry it with compressed air. Making sure to dry it thoroughly and focus some air though the heads. I reassembled it and everything worked great.
Appreciate the video and the information. As I was working through this procedure, I got some of the old ink on my hands and it washed off easily with water. So after the first soaking in alcohol for about 30 minutes I ran the print head under warm water and that very quickly removed the old ink and residue. I also let it soak for about thirty minutes and rinsed several more times under a gentle stream of water. I shook all of the water off and used an air duster to carefully blow out the water. I then put it back in the alcohol to see if I removed all the ink and most importantly get rid of the water. After soaking in alcohol for about 30 minutes and no color change in the liquid, I took it out and carefully blew it out again. I let it dry overnight, blew it again with the air duster and reinstalled it. Works great. So this is just an alternative. If you do use water, make sure you soak it in the alcohol to remove all traces of water and let it dry well.
I tried doing this all and then replacing the printhead into the printer with ink and now it's not printing anything. Do I need to just keep printing until something starts to happen? Does the ink need to re saturate it? I have tried printing 10 times and cleaning the cartridges and doing print tests and nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated!
Hey, thanks pal! I'm trying it right now. Hope it will fix my problem, which is exactly the one you hat with the same printer model. Hit back to tell you if it worked out for me!

I had to go buy a new printer after I followed this advice. Trouble is, when I need to print I need to print. I don’t have 4 days to mess with the print cartridges. Glad this works for some people. It sure didn’t work for me.
I only use my printer once or twice a year. If I store my ink cartridge in a container will this allow the print head to dry out? This video is excellent BTW. Thank you.
I followed this procedure exactly as stated about 3 weeks ago. After this at first it seemed to be OK but then decided that the printer carriage either was't fitted or was faulty and nothing I could do would get it back to working again so I just left it. However, after two week of seeing this message, it suddenly decided to start working again and now seems to be fully OK. No idea why it seems to have sorted itself out, but if your printer doesn't work may be worth trying just waiting.
I watched the cleaning of print head and let it dry out in the sun a hr but after reinstalling it abt 6 times no problem doing that but then it keeps saying missing or failed print head its not that hard to put back in only fits 1 way so now whats my problem 7520
It would have been helpful to know what to do with the printer ink as you wait for the printhead to clean. I would think you wouldn't want it to dry out, I did read to store them upside down but for not more than 30 mins.
Any ideas what to do if the screen shows "Genuine HP ink cartridges installed", but the screen doesn't change and none of the others buttons are on the screen. I tried holding the OK button but it just stays frozen on this screen.

All of this happened to me too, and I shut down the printer and restarted it. It went through the standard preparation process with a timer at about 6 minutes. After that, it printed as normal with the exception of my refurbished cartridge, which despite being filled with ink now prints nothing. It may do something to the chips of refurbs. Put in a new refurbished cartridge and it works fine.
I followed these instructions and when I put the printhead back in I got a message that the printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. On the HP site is says never to use alcohol or anything other than distilled water or you could damage the printhead and cause the message I received to generate. Any suggestions now? Please? I got a lot of black ink out of the printhead it was just crammed full. Cleaned the contact points as directed on hp site, ran distilled water through it after alcohol bath. Should I do more alcohol even if site says not to? One person who responded said that’s what he did and it worked. Kind of lost. Sorry I did this because it was still printing except for black photo ink and now it won’t get off of the printhead not recognized or missing message. I like to problem solve so I’ll keep working on it. Can you help me get unstuck? They say that alcohol will cause the printheads to dry out too much. Anyway to correct that?
I have had this happen to me and the only real solution at this point is to buy a new Printhead this is the least expensive one I could find: amzn.to/2SP3uGc I hope this helps!
@@BestPrinters Same here - had this happen to me as well. Mine was gunked up and the main black ink stopped working. Nothing else I tried seemed to work. I tried just warm water, but I may try alcohol like you suggest and see what happens before ordering a new part. Buying a new part from HP is expensive as heck, so if the alcohol doesn't work, then I will buy the replacement part you suggested. Thanks!
i went down the pathway this last weekend and for a bit into the week and messed around with soaking, drying, trying to reinstall and repeat. After 3 24 hours soaks, dries and getting the "there is a problem with your printer, please shut down..." prompt, each time, I received the refurbished Printhead referenced below. I dumped that in this morning and it's working again. I wish I could get those 4 hours of my life back from messing around with this hoping to get it to work again. at least I didn't have to get a new printer!
Definitely cheaper printhead replacements than those listed on amazon. $21 at wal-mart vs the $74 price on amazon linked above. www.walmart.com/ip/Printhead-Print-Head-5Slots-for-HP564-Photosmart-7510-7515-7520-7525-Cb326-30002/536887483
@@BestPrinters Thanks for the reply. I did try that about 5 times. then took it out again and cleaned it again. Did the cleaning program about 5 times again. None of the ink cartridges would work - all 4 of them stopped. The sheet came out just as white as when it went in. I tried everything I could think of. Nothing worked. It was working before I did the cleaning - the black just had a couple of streaks in it but all the color worked. I had to have a working printer so I ended up throwing my printer out and getting a new one - unfortunately I don't like the new one nearly as much as the one I had to trash.
After I cleaned the printhead on my HP 7520, I put in the color cartridges, but the black one does not show up on the test page. All the other colors work and show up on the test page. now all I get is Print failure message saying there is a problem with the printer or ink system. Now what????I tried restarting and unplugging power chord with the same result.
So really, unless you have 5 or 6 days to wait for your printer to print, and your printer still prints something, don't mess with it unless you really just want to buy a new printer. I followed these directions to the T, and basically finished ruining my mom's printer...of course your printer doesn't go haywire when you are casually printing something for fun, it waits until you really are up against a deadline. I should have left the printer alone and been satisfied with what I was getting. The problem was the only black ink that would print was the black ink that the camera app used and I couldn't program the printer to use it instead of the regular black ink...
I did this... and now printer complains about "print system" and doesn't allow me to do anything :-(. before it was slightly "better" (two colours were missing and i was able to use scanning). ordering a new printhead now as otherwise now it is as good as a brick

Storing your ink would be the best option, the printhead will dry out but will not get clogged.

Try running power cleaning in your maintenance settings.
Same for the 7510??
