REALLY! REALLY! appreciate the effort put into this. I have watched the entire video 5 times now looking for patterns. An observation through all of these objects that 95% of these are spot on the center of the target 2D graph leading me to believe when used in conjunction with the VDI you can really make a good observation of size, roundness. If there is iron in the hole with an object that is non ferrous I believe it is a safe bet to dig those secondary deep tones even if you have two or three VDI's coming in while one is centered. This would lead me to believe you could bump the lower ferrous limit up a bit and eliminate a lot of falseing with ferrous objects and junk. The lower VDI limit seems consistent with mineral falseing at higher sensitivity if you are running the detector wide open which may be why they mask 1-4. Again thank you for making the video. My 9 year old daughter who detects with me also loves your videos. Keep the videos coming!
I swung an AT Pro many years, I currently own the Manticore and I love it, but the numbers are all over the board. When I used the AT Pro the ID's were much better at determining what i was about to dig vs my Manticore in my opinion, especially on coins. And it was a 0-100 scale also. With the Manticore i rely more on tones
Remember that most of these air tested targets will be amplified when in the ground. Typical silver coins ring in over 90 when they are 5+ inches - I have over 200 silver coins dug with the Manticore. I've also had pennies ring in at 95. I dig all deep targets which come in all over the map and have been surprised many times with quality digs, including gold rings.
@madgieljorro6224 if you use it in beach general, then all the gold is unmasked. Because in all terrain general it is masked. Also you can just take out the mask over the targets 0 to 4 at anytime.
Outstanding job as usual! I really respect your transparency, honesty, and adjusting your conclusions when new information becomes available. Keep up the great work!

The positive is that even with a high dicrimination like on coin shooting you still have the chance to find gold. I found a lot of gold with a very high dicrimination on my Deus 2 while i was coin shooting.

Thanks for the video. I wanted to buy this metal detector. Now I'm thinking of buying another one. The video shows strange metal detector action for 40 minutes. And what also scares me is that this detector always shows different IDs 20 .... 70....80 depending on the size of the objects. Maybe the detector was set up incorrectly somehow? He doesn't see the earring either and that's really weird! I had a Tesoro Lobo Supertraq, I also tested this earring and it saw it super well when the discriminator was set to gold. True, he did not see any chains at all. Chains are a problem for detectors. Tesoro Lobo Supertraq has a frequency of 17.5 kHz, and Mantricore up to 40 kHz. The metal detector does not see chains, because they consist of individual links, which somehow parasitically affect the waves or are evaluated as individual small links of the chain. Try to turn on only one frequency on Manticor, better 40 kHz because of the small links. If it does not recognize the chain even at 40 kHz, then this is really bad!

Hey great video as always! Question for ya i have the equinox 800 and wondering if its worth getting the 15 inch coil over using the 11 inch on fields?
The stability depends on the quality of the surface. Ideally there is a uniform flat surface like coins. Rings are anything but that. But jumpy numbers can also help us inference that it is something out of the ordinary.

Seems like there is a wide range of readings even within a single type metal and that an objects shape affects it's signal level. This to me means the best over all digging strategy, as you often say, is to dig whenever there is a beep.
Thanks for the Video Merrill. I was going to buy the e-book but unfortunately I can't use PayPal for payment. I will have to watch your video guide in slow motion 😅

I learned a lot here. Thank you Merrill! I feel like I may have missed some targets after watching your video. One thing that I would like to point out, not all of the coins paint a tight circle on the non ferrous line. Some of these targets which include silver are fuzzy which may cause some manticore hunters to not dig the target because of the vast range other junky targets registering on the scale. I will adjust my attitude and do what you say, “Dig everything!”
What frequency is the detector using when it displays the VDI? Does it change or does the Manticore "normalize" the frequencies to display the reading off of one set frequency?
Hello, Merrill. I hope you'll have the chance to try the Fisher Impulse-AQ. I'd like to have your opinion on this one too. Best regards and happy hunting.
That one has been on my radar but I dont see too many people using it. I dont have an unlimited budget and I try to reinvest in machines that are buzzing. I would say that the Quest Multi and Rutus Multi detectors are higher on the list right now. But thank you for the request. It is definitely noted!
Possibly. Thanks for the request. It’s multiple days of work to do a target id bible and this one is off to a slow start. The 550 has similar vid’s to the Equinox for the time being.
What this shows me is Minelab has severely regressed in target ID. The Manticore and Deus2 are nothing but high dollar 'Beep and dig' machines! I have used Minelabs almost exclusively since the early '90's and the CTX was great, the Etrac and Equinox serries are great, but this is a nightmare for target ID! I have a finite amount of digs left and I would like to have a reasonably accurate idea of what is there before I dig a hole!
If you depend on the Target I D all the time.good luck with that.As far as so you don't have to dig. What you need is a probe and only pick up the targets on top of the ground so you don't have to dig mm
The coil see each little link instead of seeing its total mass as a solid piece. Thats why gold bracelets are tough to see. Small chains can disappear in salt because it falls in that salt conductivity range. Thats where a pulse inductor rules over any VLF. I used to find so many chains and earrings when I hunted with the Surf Pro PI using a 950 coil. The VLF's cant compete but at least youre not digging 50 iron BB's or rust blotches. I dont think a tiny chain is worth the time lost digging so much crap iron. Plus it limits the amount of good targets you can dig in that day. But when theres spots without heavy iron I still break out the pulse inductor because its hard to skunk that detector
Hello friend, very nice video!! But I have to say you something, here in Argentina the most gold finds are 18 K and ID numbers go from 13 to 25 in small pieces and the large ones with weight with 18 grams gives you a ID of 63-64. With my Manticore I dont have chance of getting chains of gold or silver, the Manticore dont read anyone. I am working allways in sand laggons with some mineralization and is hard to take calm the detector, perhaps I dont know to much to calm down. The program I use frequently is Beach Low Conductive, with Fast Recover of 3-4 to 6-7. Ferrous limit upper thin line and low line in Zero, Discrimination only column 1. Also I do the same like you making air test but ID numbers change a lot when pieces are underground. Did you know how to get the more powerful of the detector to get deep pieces in mineralization sand? Regards from Argentina. Ricardo.-
I have a couple questions and maybe I can offer you a suggestion to try. Are the lagoons salt water or is it brackish water where a fresh water river runs out into the salt water so it's more ground minerals that's a problem and not salt/ black sand. Assuming it's higher salt levels try these few suggestions first. What can it hurt right? First don't crank your power all the way up. Start out around 75% to 80% max. In mineralized salt you will NEVER be able to crank it up to full power on any detector. Use a program with a lower frequency around the 10kHz frequency or which ever the Manticore has that's close to that. Don't believe that the higher the frequency the better on low conductive targets because that is on dry land or fresh water without magnetic black sand. And it's more for tiny low conductive targets like small nuggets so the 10kHz is good for gold and it will push deeper in the ground in salt and magnetic sand then higher frequencies can. Then back down on your recovery speed to around 2 or 3. Again you aren't looking for tiny nuggets amongst heavy trash there's no reason to run it fast that loses depth quick. Now here's a tip that will sound crazy but try it and see if it doesn't quiet things down. Discriminate out your first few lowest positive ID numbers on the VDI meaning only accept +4 and up. There's very little gold there and what is at those low numbers is so small it's not worth losing depth and stability over to miss better rings. The reason you need to eliminate those low positive numbers is because salt water gives a false signal in those numbers if you accept them so if you cut them out the detector should stabilize greatly just from that one tip. And don't run auto trac unless you can control the tracking speed which should be at least 60% or on 6 if it goes to 10. If you don't have a trac speed adjustment than do a manual balance and lock that down. But if you hunt in the water then come out on the sand re balance it to the sand with the salt out of the equation. Turn your iron disc down then as you detect slowly raise it if you are hitting iron or bottle caps. And I wouldn't rely on the VDI numbers dig every solid signal even if it's weak if you hit it steady then dig it too many things can change those numbers under water in mineralized and iron trashy ground. The first and most important thing is to get it stable and smooth. Next see if you can inch the power up and it stays quiet but not up 10 points try only 3 at a time and find it's sweet spot. And remember to keep the recovery speed low unless when you hit a target it pinpoints to the side if you see that happen bump recovery up only 1 number and see if it fixes that. Use your ear and dig targets you hear the detector is locking on or trying to whisper over the same spot repeatedly. And only watch the ID for reference but don't swear by those numbers. See if that quiets things down for you and gets good depth. If you're getting small nails bump the disc up a notch. If you dig big iron but not small iron just dig them Minelabs not exactly the greatest at ignoring big iron don't blank a deep ring trying to disc out big iron there's probably not a ton of big iron where it won't hurt you to dig 3 or 4 pieces at the risk of losing a thin diamond ring. Good luck and try that for at least an hour or two and see if she isn't much smoother where your not losing depth and getting angry over it falsing. I think you're gonna be fine. If it works reply back on how you did. I bet you see that you'll at least start hitting some silver chains now too Good Luck

But what happens when all this stuff is detected at depth, say 6 inches deep. Realistically most peeps aren't lucky enough to find an area where all coins and good stuff is only 2 to 3 inches deep.
You might be sweeping a little too fast. Slow it down with lower recovery numbers and you have to be hitting 6 inches that's reasonable for even low end detectors and thats where things/finds start getting good unless your in a farm field that gets turned up. The Ace 250 will hit a 6 inch coin and it's far from a high end detector.

Hopefully you have had more time to test the manticore, be good if you could update your website on how the manticore performs? I'm from across the pond, and a minelab fan, but still not sure whether to upgrade from the nox
Hi Peter. I do love the Manticore. But the question is, do you want to spent 800 dollars over the price of the 800 for 2-3% more performance. Or should you wait until there is a replacement for the CTX3030. I have heard nothing about the 3030 replacement, but does it make sense that a FBS detector sits at the top of the Minelab (treasure detector) price points in a Multi IQ dominant world.
Bro, I have allot of respect for teachers, and i enjoy all your content. Thank you, but how the hell do you opine on a metal detector you don't own? AKA - Minelab Excal II ? Take your lil , F'king Deus II submerge it under 200' of water and see how that's going to go for you. The Excall II has MULITI Tones and it fully discriminates iron, 100%. the BLIND can use an Excall II because it is driven by TONE - And what's up with the condemn you have on your pin pointer?
Your passing the targets across the coil in the wrong direction ! The way you have the coil positioned you should be passing the targets up and down to take advantage of the double D coil ! That's why you always circle your targets when detecting. Pass the target completely across the coil , check your VDI and then once more and check again. Don't wiggle the targets on the center of the coil. That will make the IDs jump all over the place.

Hey bud, I’m about to order the e-book. What is the promo code?
Thank you!
Can you do one for the Minelab Vanquish 550?
Remember though, the scale on the Manticore (and the new Equinoxes) go to 99.
I bet you see that you'll at least start hitting some silver chains now too
Good Luck

Jean Ponce knows his stuff! I have mentioned his comments in videos before! It is a privilege to have him commenting here.
What is the size of the document?
Are these numbers close to the new 700/900?
Identical
Based on the heart pendants ID, awful sound and really bad 2d screen shape, I would not have dug it. I guess I need to reconsider passing those up
You have a nice backyard lol
Sei mega galattico che super test di numerazioni su manticore 🥰😊 e sul geim 😃😮😮😲😲 uau gia provato ma con cqesto che ai fatto il ranger I

But what happens when all this stuff is detected at depth, say 6 inches deep. Realistically most peeps aren't lucky enough to find an area where all coins and good stuff is only 2 to 3 inches deep.
Not just the Manticore, pretty much any reputable detector can get an accurate read at 6 inches.
Hunting with a full moon will change many signals.
Hola friend no inglish but I detect in pelham and in orchard..and I like to meet you one day teacher learn some spanish.thank amigo don't forget me .I am very good friend.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Basically just dig everything whit a clean tone whit no iron. .
So in inclusion, dig everything
Do you own a minelab sovereign gt.? Is it good to rate. It's older but still minelab sell the excalibur same bbs technology.
I do but strangely I’ve never used it. The shaft broke while shipping and I never replaced the shaft. It’s going to happen someday.
That bug is 49…. LOL
