Someone once said that to be truly content, it isn't about piles of wealth or fancy homes. It's being able to see discomfort from where you currently are, and being satisfied with the good fortune you currently have. Contentment comes when you're looking out through the window at a storm, you can hear the wind & rain, feel the cold chill seeping through the glass, yet you're warm & dry, wrapped up in a quilt. ...Or in your case, you literally hiked through it, you can still hear & see & feel it, but you're warm & dry in your wood-framed tent.

I used to have an old poster hanging in the den. It showed a backpacker standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking a beautiful forest. Underneath it read "You won't know if you don't go". Sometimes you just got to get out and go. Thanks for sharing the reality of owning a remote property. Best Regards

I think the other campers wish they had that tent at times . Jay you got this and it s better to be warm then cold . And you got a lot to do around the tent at times more then you want just getting wood in the snow it can be a battle and the freezing rain. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. Love that sensation of being *in* the weather. Wrapped up against the elements but just experiencing the full force of nature.
Here I enjoy throwing on the waterproofs and walking along the coast during storms. Waves coming in so hard they're practically breaking on your head and there is you... standing there in the swirling maelstrom, able to be alone with your thoughts with nothing but the roaring wind and rain for company.

Me too.I've been living off the grid for the past 4.5 years i n a tent in Connecticut, I like it, except in the summer when its hot and muggy. I prefer winter over summer 100%. I have a propane stove that I use for heat and cooking obviously. As long as you vent out properly and be extra careful its very safe regardless of what you hear about using propane stoves inside of tents.sure, the carbon monoxide will kill you if you don't vent the stove properly. Its all about being smart and careful.

I was so concerned when you took the plunge, so to speak, and got out on that ice. Ice crossings are always dicey. Glad you made it. The snow and hail literally blowing sideways was a thrill to see. I'm a 72 yo female fulltime nomad traveling about in my truck camper with my dog and senior cat here in the States. I boondock instead of staying at campgrounds preferring the solitude. If you've ever followed Foresty Forest, also a Canadian, that is how I challenge myself, too, except he travels in a van and I have a camper on my truck. Although I love to hike I'm not able to hike like he does due to my age. But even so I manage to challenge myself. When you mentioned challenging yourself, that really hit home. Being out in all kinds of weather, covering new ground on mountain trails, fishing streams and lakes -- well, just breathing the fresh pine scented air makes me feel alive. I have a small woodstove in my camper and it is my greatest luxury. There is nothing like wood heat to warm one to the bone and dry out wet clothing after a hike in the rain or snow. Best ever. Propane just doesn't cut it -- too wet. Anyway, everything you said is true. More people should learn the safe ways of getting out in nature. Steve Wells and Foresty Forest are good teachers and you are too. 👌 Thank you for sharing your experiences. I hope more people will learn how to challenge themselves safely. Life is too short to sit in front of a TV. All the best to you.

Jay, I hear you - the struggle is worth it when you get to the comfort of the tent.. for me, similar - although my struggle is more by ATV - I've rode the trail in some pretty awful conditions, but the reward for me is getting the cabin/trailer all comfy - putting a fire on, getting the generator going, unpacking my stuff, grabbing a blanket, watching a movie, and eating some good food. Best way to spend a weekend in the forest alone. We're coming up to the start of our summer season - and they open the logging roads on Friday this week... we'll be able to drive my pickup to camp for the first time this year, and enjoy summer at the lake until hunting season comes, and then the off-road season starts mid November all over.

You're doing great Jay, I've watched you for a long long time, sometimes I don't comment much when I'm watching whilst sick but I'll always try to come back and say something because I think it helps the channel when people, subscribe like, comment and also share. You also get to know your subscribers when you see them comment. You've really developed this channel. I have enjoyed watching you for years and it's gets better and better because you're authentic and just true to being who you are. You're funny, its always interesting to hear you talk. Oh and I'm the one who enjoys watching you eat after you prepare a meal. People do mukbangs all the time, I think that's what there called, so I like it when you cook and sit down to eat and chat with us. I like the story about how you developed the love for having a cabin and this tent is the closest thing you have to a cabin. I believe you'll get your land and you will build a cabin. You will do it, just continue doing what you're doing, your dream is very close and I'm here for it. Funnily enough Jay, I’ve been watching a lot of videos where people are camping in the rain/storms the last few days, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw that you uploaded a similar video. I agree that it really is a peaceful feeling being inside a solid and safe structure while they works outside is so dangerous and loud. Towards the start of the video where you said to the camera “I need to focus on getting to the tent”, when you recorded yourself walking across the ice I remember audibly saying “Jay I get that you want the cool shots but cmon man go!” Haha. Regardless, it was a phenomenal video and given I’ve been subscribed since the winter and when you did all of those, I’m super excited to see what all you get up to in the warmer months and how much the routine changes. I’m looking forward to the next video! Until next time!

Wow! You really took a chance between the weather and the thinning ice on the lake. On the other hand, I love the sound of rain on a tent, so soothing. The issue of water coming into the tent on the wood floor isn't a good thing.

Jay love your videos !!! You should have more videos of the hike in and the hike out. It was very exciting your hike into camp. Me and mrs loved it. It was an adventure itself. Keep up the great videos and great food. Take care and all the best.

Trade those pac boots in for some tall rubber boots/ Muck Boots or LaCrosse rubber boots. You won’t be disappointed! Love this video! Glad you’re safe!

Good spring trip Jay! Been camping several times this spring and headed to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway tomorrow for a week with good friends. Nothing like being in the wilds. Always enjoy accompanying you on your cabin trips. Thanks for another great video!

Wow, I'm surprised you took that risk on the ice. Every year up there, there were (are) stories of people going through the ice and not being found for months. You have family, and it's just not worth it. People that survive say "We thought it was safe" for better ice than that.
Paper plates and cups for emergencies my friend, when you're done they burn.
