14.04.2021 - VN24 - Driver steers small truck into the ditch on A44

VN24 - 04/14/2021 - Fröndenberg / Germany - The driver of a loaded 7.5-ton truck apparently wanted to stop his truck on the hard shoulder of the A44 freeway in the direction of Dortmund at around 07:15 o'clock, due to circumstances that have not yet been fully clarified, and finally got into the ditch at low speed, where his vehicle lay on its side. Witnesses and first responders were able to free the man from his cabin and provide him with care on the ground until the rescue service arrived. According to a witness and first responder, the man reportedly had a head injury that was not consistent with the accident scenario. He was taken to a hospital. A traffic jam formed on the highway, in which another, even more serious accident occurred at the end of the traffic jam at about 09:45. There, a car transporter drove into a semi-trailer truck already at the end of the traffic jam. We will report on this later.

Like VN24 said, its compressed air to release the brakes.
The reason for that is, when the engine is not running, the truck dont produces air that is used for the brakes and to unlock the "parking brake". Its one of the "failsafe systems" that when the truck has no air, for whatever reason, the brakes get automatically locked because the air is unlocking it by pushing a spring together in the cylinder of the brake system. So the truck can never have a "complete brake failure" and become unstoppable. There is ALWAYS a way to stop the truck.

Especially when i learned this a bit ago when i was making my truck driving license. There they tell you exactly how the brakes of a truck work, what the difference to car brakes is, and what you need to check in case of a damage and more.

According to the text in the description, the driver had a head injury which didn't seem to fit to the accident.
So if I was to guess, he passed out while driving because of this very injury.

Ich würde für solche Aktionen,mir langsam mal paar verschiedene aufblasbare Luftkissen besorgen,das hilft weitere Schäden zu vermeiden und diese erzeugen ja Kraft ohne Ende!!

Luftkissen ja,es würd schneller gehen,aber da geht es um stundenlohn,die schleppen ja jetzt kein pkw ausm halteverbot....hierbei muß man logisch rechnen....in Niederland dauert die Räumung zwischen 20 bis 40min,aber hier dauert es länger,die ziehen es ja inner länge,wegen dem stundenlohn ^^
