Friedkin had balls like no other director in the second golden age of Hollywood. The French Connection had guerrilla film making and causing real traffic jams and staging that chase. The Exorcist had well it's subject matter; Sorcerer had that scene with the trucks really driving over those rope and broken wood bridges, some of the best footage ever captured for a movie. and with Cruising, again way ahead of his time!!
I got my copy of communion a.k.a alice sweet alice and it is a beautiful transfer ive never seen it look this good before. The holy terror tv cut finally shows the allied artists logo which id been wanting to see for a long time. It doesn't disappoint. I need to get cruising william friedkin is one of my favorite directors.
About the time Cruising was released I read a paperback by Felice Pacino called The Cure, which as far as I can remember was a similar story to Cruising. Can’t remember much though, it was a long time ago!
Friedkin has amazing stories about making CRUISING in his memoir. Including screening an early cut which had all the hardcore gay sex in it. Gay advocacy groups protested the film (even while it was filming), claiming it offered a prejudiced view of the gay scene of the time. But as Friedkin discovered, the reality was actually FAR more intense and seedy than he was allowed to show.
Well I figured in the end Pacino's character killed his neighbor because he was starting to like him and felt just like the original killer that his neighbor made Pacino like him which comes back to the killer saying, "you made me do that". Plus the hat, jacket and mirror shades that his girlfriend found also points to Pacino becoming the new killer.
A 1995 'B' sci fi flick called Screamers. I'd heard it was more than the sum of it's parts and yeah, it was. Not amazing by any means but well worth the watch.
My favorite line from Cruising: Gay Killer: How big are you? Al Pacino: ...party size. Lol😂😭 Plus the most random scene with the big black cowboy going into the police station and slapping Pacino in the face. "WHO WAS THAT!?!?..WHO THE HELL WAZ DAT!?!?" LOL.
i get FOMO (fear of missing out) about films; labels still assume people are buying from a position of being almost overly-aware. for example : KLSC stated (iirc) last week they couldn't believe anyone interested in the label didn't already know of the vast majority of it's output. i think it should be assumed to be the polar opposite to that position or assumption, for safety's sake, for certainty, and they (all labels, not just kino) should take their new / upcoming releases announcements on social media, forums, as the prime opportunity to make a film entirely clear in our minds. stop us from all the laborious effort which is either taking us to poor coverage, bad IMDB reviews, terrible quality YT uploads. let it be assumed we don't want to go spending what energy and time we have for films on figuring out (as individuals) what they could more professionally provide us with that makes a more informed context that saves effort and leaves energy and inclination for acting upon a more-informed position, broadening / revising what / how much we buy. nobody has (in reality) that much of an appetite for any subject.
Hey Adam or anyone else reading, can you recommend some really good slasher / serial killer horror novels ? Or if you already have a video on it then just point me in the right direction, thanks!
Richard Laymon might be the ticket. Kind of schlocky but very consistent. Maybe start with Come Out Tonight or Night in the Lonesome October. Violent, relentless & quite smutty but not as OTT as say, Ed Lee or Wrath James White.
Crusing is a Classic! not necessarily a A Masterpiece or even Great! ...is a Decent Film maybe above cause of the plot , and the fact that a movie like this will never made ever Again speaks for itself , What balls Friedkin Had Around That time but even then he couldn't sell the Complete Thing , cause Nevertheless Having very Raw Sexually explicit content, the movie Devian about what is more important like the character evolution and how really affect his former Life and to be honest i'm Not Gay but i felt the picture Needs to have More Footage of the S/M Subculture , explore more the Lore behind darkest Corners of the City Night wear down all that Testosterone make a few characters Bring more of their personal lives i know this cause Friedkin use To Have Way more Footage of the movie that Now is lost , anyway an average viewer can have enough but i was disappointed how such a Dark Movie just give me right about Enough ...

Picking up cruising in a few days!
Have you seen Friedkin;s other controversial gay film: The Boys in the Band?
I NEED that Blood Harvest shirt!
Love your Marvelous Mervo t-shirt!
Which one of your novels should I read first? Greetings.
Both films are great! I love how you describe Don’t Look Now as “meditative” and “contemplative”. I’ve got an easier word, BORING!
Like almost everything Roeg did was pretentious boring BS

Fun fact: I lost my V-card watching Cruising at a drive-in in 1980. I was clearly innocent. After that I was pretty much a sl*t.
Love Alice sweet Alice . Cruising is too problematic on many levels.
