  • One by one they disappeared
The minds of science, the nation's leaders
    To meet again at destination
    Sweating in their seats, anticipation
On the salt flats of Nevada
All those who mattered waited for the word
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh pilot
    This paradise is lost forever
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh Pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
    We have made
    Thru the porthole panic stricken
    Humanity had been forsaken
The door secured, the cry was distant
But the scratching fingers grew persistent
On the salt flats of Nevada
All those who mattered waited for the word
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh pilot
    This paradise is lost forever
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh Pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
    We have made
    Pilot, woah oh pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
    We have made

I never took the time to read the lyrics and clearly had no idea what he was talking about. I just heard it the other day while driving in my car and once again I wondered why he was singing about a pilot. This is pure poetry, exceptional writing. He is amazing, his vocals are so cool. I love the way he draws out the words (disappeared....destination...etc). The funky bass line is iconic. One of the best from that era and definitely proud that he is Canadian.

thanks Pat--didn't know he was Canuck until now. well it's somewhat interpretational, however, Pilot i believe is referring to the biblical Pontius Pilot, and he is mentioning the Salt Flats because it is a another prophetic allude to area 51(the paranormal incidents). there are more professional biblical interpreters now, which is because you can't put the pieces of the puzzle together, or at least for anyone interested in the Bible . my own 'Bible' is the AA basic text ever, however, during one of the anti-vax rallies last year, one evangelical fellow told me what has been happening was prophesized in 'Enoch.' in any case, Bob Lazar was a guy involved in much of the paranormal and had quit working at area 51 because of what he saw(alien technology), and had went public with it all. i'm pretty sure Ian was prophesizing about certain things going on now.

  • @SleepingPepper
    @SleepingPepper 11 місяців тому +1

I'm neck deep in a really weird rabbit hole right now. Ian Thomas himself has stated that this song was inspired by a British mockumentary that aired in 1977 called Alternative 3. It was an attempt at an April Fools joke that was botched by the producer because they could not get the April 1 timeslot. Because of this a lot of viewers thought it was real and it created a small British media panic similar to the "War of Worlds" airing narrated by Orson Wells in the U.S.
The subject of the faux documentary was that global warming was already well in the process of making the Earth uninhabitable and a covert American-Soviet initiative had begun to execute "Alternative 3" where top scientists and global leaders, along with a slice of the population were to travel to Mars using the moon as a staging area and start life anew. The film depicts that wildlife is found on mars upon arrival, but the tie in novel depicts that the expedition finds that Mars has a breathable atmosphere.
The subject of this fiction hits a whole lot harder in 2023 than it did in 1977, especially considering the impact this mockumentary and the subsequent fictional tie in novel had on the world of conspiracy theorists. I would not be at all surprised if Elon Musk has this whole ordeal swimming in the back of his brain, but that is only speculation on my part.
