- I was inspired to arrange this traditional tune after hearing a lovely vocal rendition by Lumiere. The 2 women are from Dingle, Ireland, which I visited recently. Of course it's also been done by many people, including Joan Baez, the Carter Family and Peter, Paul, and Mary and many more. I've always thought the song was Irish, but apparently it is from Appalachia (tho there's a strong Appalachia/Ireland connection, and there is a similar song with Scottish/Irish roots).
I arranged my version in DADGAD tuning, and the 5th fret capo adds to the delicate sound and places it close to the key Lumiere used (they're a half step higher).

I spent a good bit of time working and living in Scotland.
I believe there are more people of Scottish decent living in Appalachia than live in Scotland. The North Carolina "Highland Games" are certainly larger than any I saw in Scotland. Scotland is a beautiful country populated my good and friendly people. 🎉

My mind didn’t get in the way, but rather let your playing take me on the journey, canceling any preconceived expectations I could have had. Lovely playing and arranging Doug. I've been listening to this song sung by an old time music duo, and its neat to now compare your instrumental version. Good stuff.
