United have a realistic chance to get top four, yet that's only due to the question marks of how consistent Villa, Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle United can be. Based off of today’s performance, I know it’s the first game of the season and they’re going to be an even better team than last season and we need to see how other teams will perform this weekend, I really don’t think that Manchester United has enough quality to make the top 4 this season. Defensively, if everyone is healthy they’re going to be better since they upgraded in that area of the pitch, midfield still needs work in terms of controlling the game and not being outran by other teams and attack can be better when it comes to converting their chances in front of goal because had they had their shooting boots, they would’ve won by more than 1 goal today. Fulham were excellent in terms of their game plan as they looked as if they did enough to win a point and get something out of the game, at the end of the day Manchester United secured a hard fought win and at times they played well and other times there was still some things lacking about their team. They were dealing with a couple of injuries and overall Erik ten Hag was happy about the result regardless of the performance. As their new signings gel and they have a healthy squad, there’s going to be a better version of the team and we can see that when their style of play is properly implemented properly. They’ve added more players to their squad and off the bench, but I question how much quality depth they have in their team because what’s going to happen if they lose Bruno Fernandes or Kobbie Mainoo in midfield as who do they have to replace them, even in defense yes they’ve signed Leny Yoro and Matthijis de Ligt, one is injured and the other is injury prone and what’s going to happen if Lisandro Martinez is injured and all 3 of them aren’t fit, there’s going to be a drop off in quality if that happens. They need to sign at least 2-3 more players from now until the transfer window closes and offload players who aren’t good enough. Similar to last season, there’s going to be a massive drop off in quality if they lose one of those players to injury because they’re a team currently who are capable of having all of their main players injured at the same time and due to that, it’s one of the things that could be detrimental to their chances in finishing in the top 4 even though regardless of that they should finish either 5th or 6th, finishing 4th requires them to play very well. It’s only 1 game and let’s not jump into conclusions very early because I know how reactionary fans are in a sense that we can go from “we’re going to make the top 4” “it’ll be our season” “we made proper transfer decisions” “we made the right decision in backing the manager” etc to “ten Hag out”, “trust the process” “our team sucks” “we have average players made bad signings” “we have no chance in making top 4, we’re going to have another miserable season” if they lose their next game.

It’s too early to say that he’s set up for back to back disappointing seasons because in the Community Shield against Manchester City, he wasted so many clear cut scoring chances and today wasn’t the best performance from him once again, he had his moments and he worked hard for the team. Sure he can do better since we know what he’s capable of as he has to do a lot more if he is to keep his place in the starting lineup, but come on do we not watch football anymore, when a player doesn’t score a goal apparently they ghosted and didn’t do much during the game.
