Kelsey, this has to be one of the best small backyard makeovers I’ve ever seen. So functional but cozy. The vibe is so welcoming. Favorite part? ALL of it, but the top three for me - the glass barn doors, basket lights in the tree, the sectional and the garbage storage. Oh wait - that’s four. Told you l couldn’t choose.! Front door is a game changer, too! Great job, as usual….
I am curious to see how that garage sliding door will work and last in winter. If the small gap between the door and the wall will cause small animals to get into the garage itself.
It will most likely attract animals, if there is some form of food she should keep it WELL closed off, and if she wants to discourage them from moving in she can always have some light inside and play some music I'm a wildlife rehabber and this sounds exactly like the kind of place a raccoon would pick to have her babies haha
The gaps can surely be patched up with an elastic band that runs on the outer edges of the doors touching the wall of the building. Also the door frame can be reinforced this way from the inside. I'm sure there is a way to keep things pretty and functional.
@@mocztenora That might work! :) In the end animals will not move in if they believe you go there often and use the space a lot, because they see you as a threat! So having lights here and there, making noise, talking and having music will help to deter potential surprise neighbors :)
@@sunnyartsy1263 can confirm! Even raccoon's & squirrels need food, water, a place of safety & some Love... On that Note Maybe building them places they could Live Happily would mean saving your hard work from there needs to find their home in their natural habitants... After All we share space with nature especially when we Love it as much as You do .. maybe build some bird houses, raccoon & Squirrel Hangouts that hep them while keeping you & Your friends & family safe as well...
So preparing a safety zone while protecting your environment is a terrible idea why because 1)more would come 2) risky factors ??? Can that be clarified ??? What's terrible about it ( we make bird houses for birds, then why not an area for squirrel homes in the trees or a safety pen for raccoons with ability for them to get in & out made for them & their needs) ****(We cannot keep ignoring wild Life they & us must learn to compromise our conditions clearly sharing space safely with each other) what's bad about green space environmental Living???)
I personally love the deck stain. The lighting is sooo good. I can wait for the plants to fully grow out. The tree lights with chains is such a vibe. The sage green blacks look sooo Amazing. Definitely my favourite makeover till now. Best one. Love it so much

i'm surprised with all the bigger renos you guys do you haven't invested in a paint sprayer. even just those few seconds of kelsey priming the garage it seemed like such a pain to do it by brush/roller.

I doubt very much that this girl is doing these jobs. Just watching her supposedly hammer something ... hmmm. This is sponsored and it's good information but nah, I can't believe it.
She can do *basic* electrical, which isn't hard because there are 2-3 wires in lighting which are color coded. You can easily teach yourself how to do these things by watching UA-cam videos. I built a whole dang campervan by watching UA-cam haha
Girl you're going to have so much snow in your garage come the first blizzard with snowdrifts haha The barn doors are gorgeous, but that 3inch gap between the siding and the door is going to be no good.
I feel like if she was going to do it having them slide from inside would have been better but still be prone to snow and animals while leaving external trim up
@@kwong06 she might be able to weatherproof it somehow with some kind of weatherproofing drapes or seal on the interior that would still retain the exterior aesthetic she desires
I'm completely blown away by how well everything came together. I was on the fence about the wood stain and then it just turned out so much better than I anticipated in the end. Also, can we talk about the editing for the reveal? That music and pacing was absolute perfection. In addition, I am forever in awe of Kelsey's ability to remain optimistic that she'll find all the right pieces to come together in doing a makeover.
There is no reason to drill into a living tree like Kelsey did at 32.26. She just needed to double up the chain and hang it from the limb. Save the tree from overzealous decorating.
I was thinking the same thing. I would be really mad if I was the neighbor. What really bugged though me is that Kelsey acknowledges that she does not know the etiquette for dealing with a branch in her yard but she does not bother to find out. I was floored that she took a drill to the tree! Really inconsiderate and selfish.
Wonder if the solar lights will get enough sun to charge. Trees are pretty tough. But I would try to avoid damaging them. But back in the day folks attached treehouse steps, clotheslines and birdhouses and the trees generally survived. But it is always better to err on the side of caution. Even if you hate the tree, a dead limb could cause major damage and expense.
I agree that apart from the legal situation you should not drill into living trees. As they are living beings it's a "wound" for them they somehow have to heal.
Lol I just started this serie like an hour and a half ago sighing at the thought that I was gonna have to wait so long for the next episode and omg how lucky am I that by the time I finished the second épisode the 3rd one came out what 😱
This is so beautiful Kelsey. I know you worry about being indecisive, but your meticulous and thoughtful planning makes you an amazing designer!! This space and each one in your home has turned out amazing.
You can buy longer cabinet screws for the handles. Looks amazing, love the deck stain, the plants and the green garage! Def inspired to make over my back yard!
I love your channel! As a single female, retired, this is so encouraging. I am in escrow on a bit of a fixer. A project home! I used Bondo to fill splits in my dog ear fence before applying deck paint. Easy and inexpensive fix!
The transformation looks great! I know this series is meant to be more vlog style and not instructional but I do think you should have mentioned that in most cases barn doors wouldn’t be recommended for a outdoor application due to the gap, lack of seal, and the track and hardware will be susceptible to rust and deteriorating over time unless it is specifically rated by the manufacturer for outdoor use.
Would love to see a follow up of this space one year later. I would invest more in our outdoor area if I thought it would hold up for more than one season! I live in a hot sunny humid climate and after one full season all of those bold dark colors would be bleached out and look really bad 🙄
I feel the same way about snow! even "outdoor proof" things tend to look grimy and gross after being under snow for 5 months. I live in a snowy climate (I'm super close to Canada actually) and I'm just like... hmm................ would it work for more than 1 summer?
Same here with snow. Any wood has to be reeeeally well sealed and even then needs a new coat or two every couple seasons. We also pull out outdoor things that can move into the shed in winter. But where I'm at it can snow in July so 🤷♀️ it doesn't always help!
That's my worry too. I mean when it rains you need to run outside and grab the cushions. So i wonder if other materials won't fit better depending on where you live.
Just gotta replace the cushions. It’s annoying but probably gonna have to buy new cushions every year and try to buy the ones that are more sun resistant
@@TheSorryGirls I did seeee you on netflix for the motel makeover series and was shocked! They used your intro music so I was thinking about you guys. Then I saw you and it came full circle!
wooow that was a lot of projects even for 1 video, not mentioning the previous two! I loved every minute of it! that cute little mirror, and chandeliers out of baskets (I'm totally stealing this idea for my cottage house). And I'm so glad you decided to bring the dragonfly back to the front door. She is such a cutie!
Everything looks stunning but I think if you had stained the fence the same colour as the front porch (or the built in garbage can storage) then the backyard would feel more complete. To me the old greyed out wood on the fence makes the space look dreary considering how beautiful the design and colours are for the rest of the backyard. That and repainting the white trim around the front door would’ve been nice finishing touches!
I was so looking forward to this outdoor space to be complete…and Kelsey you did not disappoint. I love it!!! I love how your homes makeover has turned out. You have lots of awesome ideas.
That green on your garage with the black elements is everything!! The whole backyard vibe is gorgeous and comfy all at the same time! Love it! Can you share the stain color and the green you used?
This backyard is such a vibe! It’s the one I wanna go home to after a long day of work! So chill and relaxing! Hats off to Kelsey and the whole TSG team!🤗✨
Quick question: since the light you put by your back door came in a pack of 2, would the second light not have worked on the garage if you mounted it horizontally? Love the one you ended up with, too! I was just curious. The space looks beautiful - the backyard, and your whole house, honestly.
There would be very little light from it had it been placed horizontally, as it's essentially an up and down lighter. They're more ambient lighting rather than functional. (I used to work in domestic lighting). Look pretty but not very functional, especially if it's your sole light.
I imagine she could have drilled holes into the bottom of horizontal light to provide more illumination. A rope light following the roofline would look nice for some ambient lighting if it could be inconspicuous. This could be solar with the charging panel placed a little ways away if necessary .
BEAUTIFUL job!! your backyard is not only dreamy and lively, but also practical in several ways! your attention to detail and functionality is amazing, and I hope to create a space just as dreamy in my own place some day
We've bought a house and we're renovating lately. We're almost to the point where we can buy furniture and decorative pieces, but it's soooo expensive. I'd be interested to know if you know how much you spend (on renovations and furnitures) if you're willing to share. I'm a different country, but having a point of comparison would be a good start.
Just moved myself and the one rule I have about furniture is don't buy new. So if it takes me a year or more to get a dining room table and chairs via thrifting/FB marketplace etc, so be it.
I think it's fair to mention that some of their furniture is gifted from Article (I believe), and since they're making videos around the renovations, that helps pay for them. But they both thrift and reuse/makeover a lot too!
I think if you look directly under the video , there's the "show notes" section - (you may have to click on an arrow to see it ?!) They usually have most of what they purchase listed there with Canadian & U.S.A. links......
The makeover turned out great 😍 I loved it. Only thing that I was disappointed with, was that you didn't paint the front door frame and doorstep which distracted from the otherwise lovely front porch.
Hi Kelsey, I live in Maine, so I know those sliding garage doors are going to freeze shut when the ice and snow comes. They look gorgeous, though :) Everything is gorgeous.
i love this! The mirror especially is so beautiful, love the look of outdoor mirrors but i always worry about wind! Is it secured really sturdy or will it be one of the things you gotta take inside?
I really enjoy your Making Home videos, as they inspire me to improve my home in practical ways. This video especially, has given me lots of ideas. Thank you! Oh, and I also enjoy your candid diy’s that realistically don’t always go the way you planned - I can relate!
Ahhhhh i love this space. I love the making home series. Kelsey and TSG always get my creative juices flowing and excited to make updates to my own space
💡The new lamps look fabulously moody in the far corner above that gorgeous outdoor seating! 😉Although I would've been more cautious about drilling into the tree🌳, esp. since it wasn't mine. ⛓️Using a chain to hang the trio of solar lights was smart! I simply would've recommended wrapping it around the branch & securing with a caribiner or another link🔗. 🐿️ In any event, the squirrels will probably still use it as a climbing apparatus. 🤞At least they won't be able to totally destroy it. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
@Sherri T[A]P Me!! To Have [S]EX With Me It's a matter of city ordinances, not province-level laws. If she actually lives in Toronto, a permit is required unless the less trunk is less than 30 cm in diameter (this is the same whether the tree is entirely on her property or the trunk is on her neighbor's property) See § 813-12.
the space is a complete dream!! absolutely beautiful! the only thing that makes me pause is the basket lights hanging from the tree, it looks like those are telephone lines running between them?? I'm not sure if that's a hazard or something to just keep an eye on but after the initial 'that's so cute' I thought 'that might be a bit dangerous' (does anyone know if it is??)
those cushions, they are lovely but-- My first thought was "how is she gone maintain them, wouldn't they get dusty through time or get soaked with rain when it drops"
You got two of the lights that goes by your backdoor. You could have turned it on its side and tried it above the garage door. That would have given you the long light that you were looking for. Just an idea!
Awesome job, love what you have done to your home. The fire pit and outside lounge area's are cool!!! Loving the sliding doors and light features. They all come together perfectly. 10 outa 10!!! Enjoy your great outdoors!!!
I LOVE the entire makeover, if I could change one thing it would be for the backyard fence to get a fresh coat of paint 😂 it would tie in better with the more darker matte colours and provide an overall more cohesive look, but either than that… it’s so beautiful 😢
34:47 on the nick of time AND on the nick of size, a final blessing for this beautiful place! You played really well with tones, sorry the stain put you through a lot. It's really sweet how you could use your grandma's rocks, even if that led to some shocking revelations (and more questions)
Why would you not just put the chain over the branch instead of drilling into someone else's tree? That's just SO pointless. Other than that, I loved this a lot more than I thought, it came together so well! I miss the original intro though, it was so cute.
@@neuphsss3827 Bullshit. If you fastened both ends to the light, that would be just as secure as whatever it is they did here. Probably even more so, since it can't fall off a hook when it's windy.
So beautiful, it's your own a resort level getaway and that you did so much of the work on your own with help from family & friends makes it even more inspiring. Btw love grandma's stones.
I like the sliding doors in an aesthetic way, but it seems there are big gaps between the interior and exterior. So it will be less reliable as storage space in terms of moist. I think making te opening wider and keep the french doorstyle would’ve done a better job moist-wise.
she mentioned wanting the sliding door to save some space and have that awesome couch - but definitely some structural issues she will have to consider!

Great job, as usual….
this video just makes me happy. there's something so satisfying about watching things slowly come together.
I am curious to see how that garage sliding door will work and last in winter. If the small gap between the door and the wall will cause small animals to get into the garage itself.
It will most likely attract animals, if there is some form of food she should keep it WELL closed off, and if she wants to discourage them from moving in she can always have some light inside and play some music
I'm a wildlife rehabber and this sounds exactly like the kind of place a raccoon would pick to have her babies haha
The gaps can surely be patched up with an elastic band that runs on the outer edges of the doors touching the wall of the building. Also the door frame can be reinforced this way from the inside. I'm sure there is a way to keep things pretty and functional.
@@mocztenora That might work! :)
In the end animals will not move in if they believe you go there often and use the space a lot, because they see you as a threat! So having lights here and there, making noise, talking and having music will help to deter potential surprise neighbors :)
@@sunnyartsy1263 Your idea brings to mind a few scenes from "Home alone". 😇😊
@@sunnyartsy1263 can confirm! Regularly had issues with raccoons attempting to move into my garage roof/ceiling space so we put a small Bluetooth speaker and had music going off and on during the day as well as my daughters minecraft stream vods and UA-cam vids with coyote sounds at night. It's worked like a charm!
This turned out INREDIBLE!! Straight out of Better Homes and Gardens. Just so gorgeous, crisp, organized, natural, gorgeous. Great great job on this space Kelsey!
The city oasis of my dreams! Seriously, I lived in TO for 25 years and literally could only dream about having an adorable home like yours. I am a construction project manager in Calgary now and I own my own home, DIY to my heart's content and have learned a lot from @TheSorryGirls. You are both great inspirations indeed!
Amazing transformation. Love the green, on black, on dark brown and brick, it really is a vibe
I am still studying, I can't afford a house but I would love to have one and make it my own home one day. This serie is bringing me so much joy, I am watching from the beginning and it is really a whole a** journey and it turns out soo beautiful - I love everything (even the color of the wall in the toilet room)! I hope you feel good more and more in your new home ❤️
The backyard turned out to be so aesthic , cozy and classy !! This renovation is my favourite of all the house renovations. 😍
The "bird bath" and mirror is so CUTE and interesting, I can't help but think of the raccoons having a little "fur care" moment on it 🦝⛲✨✨
fun fact.. raccoons simply love to pee in water ... ;) I'm constantly cleaning my bird baths for that reason ... ;)
Some bird is going to run into that mirror
Even raccoon's & squirrels need food, water, a place of safety & some Love... On that Note Maybe building them places they could Live Happily would mean saving your hard work from there needs to find their home in their natural habitants... After All we share space with nature especially when we Love it as much as You do .. maybe build some bird houses, raccoon & Squirrel Hangouts that hep them while keeping you & Your friends & family safe as well...
@@EchoamysDoghouse my first thought. terrible idea.
Best one. Love it so much
Everything about this bird bath/fountain brings me so much joy! "Grandma!" And also cutting the grass with scissors and your dad's perfect dad quotes. The space looks so good!
Oooof, every single one of the design elements in this makeover was SPOT ON. Your obsession with green is OUR obsession with green, immaculate vibes.
This yard is a mood and a vibe. This is the kind of place that makes you really want to cozy up and chill at home. Beautiful job.
💯
i'm surprised with all the bigger renos you guys do you haven't invested in a paint sprayer. even just those few seconds of kelsey priming the garage it seemed like such a pain to do it by brush/roller.
I was thinking the same thing!
Spraying it is just as time consuming cleaning everything
yess I was think exactly the same thing I'm surprised they don't have a Wagner sponsor yet they would use it so much.
I have seen modernbuilds use it and it looks like it's just waht they need
@@mermaiddiyartist8119 truth . And usually lots of time masking large areas off.
I doubt very much that this girl is doing these jobs. Just watching her supposedly hammer something ... hmmm. This is sponsored and it's good information but nah, I can't believe it.
the fact she can do electrical is just so amazing to me and i love her !! She's GOALS! Teach me your waysss
Totally agree. If I were that neighbor, I'd be pissed.

I just blew up my whole yard…sold my yacht & lemonade & started renovating….all because of you guy’s & UA-cam! Thanx!
Wow this turned out so amazing. I definitely need a lounge sectional in my backyard.
Oh my goodness it’s beautiful. I think it’s honestly my favourite makeover so far.
Lol I just started this serie like an hour and a half ago sighing at the thought that I was gonna have to wait so long for the next episode and omg how lucky am I that by the time I finished the second épisode the 3rd one came out what 😱
you are the luckiest person ever
I’m loving all the greens. The greens you chose are my favorites 🌲🌿🎄🌱🌵🌴🌳☘️🐲🐉🍐🍏🥒🥬🥝🥦🥑🫑🫒🧩🥎🎾🪀💚💚💚💚💚💚
Love how it turned out! Green was definitely the right colour, it makes everything looks so much more elevated!
Yeah, I was thinking that those do not look Canadian winter proof 😂
As soon as the first look of the finished project was shown I smiled and didn't stop until video stopped. Amazing job!!!
Wow I love the stain you choose, paired with the green is stunning! Its giving me modern cottage vibes. Beautifully done!
I LOVE the green and the stain color! It turned out so cute!
This is gorgeous. I admire your determination and willingness to try doing things you haven't done before. You did a fabulous job!
I love this series so much!! Honestly, i’m still confused about why you guys don’t have a netflix show yet

@@TheSorryGirls I did seeee you on netflix for the motel makeover series and was shocked! They used your intro music so I was thinking about you guys. Then I saw you and it came full circle!

@@jessicahill8762 what show?
@@jessicahill8762 Me too! I was so excited!
wooow that was a lot of projects even for 1 video, not mentioning the previous two!
There's just something so comforting about watching TSG gardening...
This is stunning! You should be proud Kelsey! The cozy autumn vibes are gonna come thru strong✨🍁
This backyard is such a vibe! It’s the one I wanna go home to after a long day of work! So chill and relaxing! Hats off to Kelsey and the whole TSG team!🤗✨
Can we see Rachel lead a diy, she has such a great personality and I would love to see more of her and see what she can create!
Quick question: since the light you put by your back door came in a pack of 2, would the second light not have worked on the garage if you mounted it horizontally? Love the one you ended up with, too! I was just curious. The space looks beautiful - the backyard, and your whole house, honestly.
I wondered that! Maybe not. I love the sconce look she picked though! 😁

I think if you look directly under the video , there's the "show notes" section - (you may have to click on an arrow to see it ?!) They usually have most of what they purchase listed there with Canadian & U.S.A. links......
DROOL!!!! This is absolutely dreamy and perfect
The makeover turned out great 😍 I loved it. Only thing that I was disappointed with, was that you didn't paint the front door frame and doorstep which distracted from the otherwise lovely front porch.
Looks fantastic. Great job and having your dad there to help is the best ❤️
Definitely such a cute, relaxing space to hang out in!

I hope the sliding doors hold up during winter.
I love how cozy and beautiful this turned out! And as always great production quality and editing on the video!
Hi Kelsey, I live in Maine, so I know those sliding garage doors are going to freeze shut when the ice and snow comes. They look gorgeous, though :) Everything is gorgeous.
This has got to be one of the prettiest backyard transformations I've seen. Kudos! 👍
Kelsey you cannot put screws into trees!!! The screws will rust and kill the tree!! Please please please fix it 😣😣😣
The result is so beautiful. You put so much work in and it shows. Love it!
i love this!

Huh, around here most cities have restrictions on damaging living trees even if they are on your property.
Toronto (where Kelsey lives) has this as one of their by-laws. You’re supposed to consult an arborist before cutting down or injuring a tree.

Wow. This turned out great! 😍 I love the little fountain. It looks great with the stones from your grandma.
And the color scheme is on point!
I love how it turned out. I'm just wondering if you're adding a lock or something to the garage and sliding doors?
I hope this series is not over. It’s my fave.
the space is a complete dream!! absolutely beautiful! the only thing that makes me pause is the basket lights hanging from the tree, it looks like those are telephone lines running between them?? I'm not sure if that's a hazard or something to just keep an eye on but after the initial 'that's so cute' I thought 'that might be a bit dangerous' (does anyone know if it is??)
Not with solar lights I wouldn't think.
Looks great. Simple but has a cool autumn feel to it. Cozy.
those cushions, they are lovely but-- My first thought was "how is she gone maintain them, wouldn't they get dusty through time or get soaked with rain when it drops"
We need a fashion styling video with Rachel 👌 she always looks so fab!
You got two of the lights that goes by your backdoor. You could have turned it on its side and tried it above the garage door. That would have given you the long light that you were looking for. Just an idea!
Lol my thoughts exactly!
but it wouldn’t light up downwards, it would light up sideways, and that was not what she intended
I thought about that too but I think they were worried it could drop from the wind, it was too heavy, or that the squirrels/ raccoons could drop it.
Right?!? Poor branch!! Plus not healthy for the tree branch wouldn’t be surprised if it’s dead in a few years!
@@AshleySmith-tf3il a mature tree isn't going to drop dead from a drilled hole 😂
@@becshaps just throwing some chains over a tree branch is not stable and would easily come down with winds and heavy rain.
Also she is canadian! There will be snow inside
she mentioned wanting the sliding door to save some space and have that awesome couch - but definitely some structural issues she will have to consider!
Great job!!!👍
