So if you don't own either, this is definitely the one you should buy first as those extra options on the 1's just make the game better and if you don't like them you can ignore them. then only get the original if you want to combine the componenets together.
Watched this review with my family last night and my 7yr old daughter was excited with the idea of using this as an expansion. One of our favourite family games.
I'm half bummed that the rooms look exactly the same. I kinda feel like I'm buying the first one all over again. Someone in the comments mentioned the amount of space needed to fit the two together could also be an issue for some, like myself. But... the artwork and colors are fresh and unique from other boxed games' standard set of colors, and the thought that the combined games is compared to something like Pitch Car thrills me to no end! I'm hoping by the end of this year when I move I'll go out, get this copy, VOLTRON these two up and watch my friends frantically scramble around the table trying to snag their fish and get back.
My guys LOVE this game, and so does mom. Its fun and exciting. Adding another layer of game on top of this will be awesome. Autobuy on my part. for those that have 5-12 YO kids will love this, even if you dont have Icecool 1.
Not sure why anyone hasn't answered you yet. I played a 7-player regular game that took 1.5 hours (most of them haven't played before at the time). However, the race mode is MUCH quicker. I have played many 8 player race mode games that took 15 minutes or less. I recommend playing race mode for 6+ players. I can definitely recommend getting both.
I hope they bundle them together for a cheaper price. I don't have the original, and spending $40+ dollars on each doesn't sound very appealing to me, when in the end, I'm just playing with a box. Expanding them together looks pretty fun, but when you compare the price to something like Fireball Island, which was $60 for a HUGE molded board and lots of components, it's hard to justify spending $80 on cardboard.
