SERIES 2 EPISODE 177: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN
A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: A lawyer yelling "you're a liar" at a witness does not make him a liar, despite what Anderson Cooper says. The storyline before the Trump Trial began was: If Michael Cohen keeps his cool when Todd Blanche screams at him, he'll prevail. He did it, and yet the networks rushed to ignore it. Prosecutors have already said they'll only need about an hour of re-direct of Cohen next Monday, meaning that's all the time they expect to require to polish him back up. They are still winning - plus there is still the wild card that in his perpetual over-confidence Trump may testify.
And yet that's not where I start because sometimes the most important story and the most interesting one are not the same thing. The primary sidebar takeaway from Cohen's testimony was based on a poorly worded tweet that the author, Ron Filipkowski, deleted. “Cohen testified that his main media contacts to get positive stories run about Trump were Maggie Haberman, Katy Tur, and Chris Cuomo." Except Cohen DIDN'T say that. He was asked if he had good relationships with reporters. Haberman? "Yes," he replied. Tur? "Yes." Cuomo? "Yes." I am thus in the position of defending - in part - the transactional Haberman, my appalling ex, and the ridiculous Cuomo.
Having said that, they are all imperiled because of what Cohen DID say.
Plus we have a really great punchline to the day in the courtroom in which a would-be Trump Insurrectionist learned that loyalty to him is a one-way street, even if the only thing you wanted was a wave.

I agree Trumps lawyers did not do much damage to Cohen testimony. They have a couple of hours of testimony left on Monday and if he can maintain his cool it should be ok. Also I think on redirect the prosecution can clean up most of the issues.
Been on jury duty and we scrutinized the hard evidence more than anything. Figure they will do the same. Not to say that there isn't a MAGAt amongst them to create a hung jury.

Cohen has been a fantastic witness for the prosecution and the defense attorneys have been less than helpful to the defendant, all at the same time. Unfortunately there's zero chance that the defendant will be sentenced to actual prison here. Conviction is an easy and foregone conclusion, but prison is not going to happen.

Thank you for another exceptional podcast. An educated smart journalist and not enough smart listeners is a shame of mammoth proportions. This shows the obvious failure of the education system of many areas of the country. This kind of forward thinking isn't reaching the public. It couldn't be teachers aren't paid enough ? Let us hope enough educated folks made it and will vote this year. Keith needs the same amount of subscribers that Meidas Touch has in my opinion. She wanted to avoid any conflict of interest. Per the Washington Post, Alicia said, “Last week, a grand jury indicted U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez,” Menendez told viewers at the beginning of the show, her first on-air appearance since the indictment. “This past week, dozens of members of his own party have demanded his resignation. I have been watching along with all of you, as a citizen and also as his daughter.”
She continued: “I will not be reporting on the legal case. That said, my colleagues across MSNBC and NBC News, they have aggressively covered this story, and they’ll continue to do so, as they should.”
I think Menendez was wise to make this statement and to not cover her father's legal troubles.

I didn't like the Meidas Touch network at first; but its community are very supportive, and that counts for a lot IMHO (though I did let them know that I didn't think they were doing enough re: disclosure of their relationship with Cohen; but that's what I do after a 26-year career in legal aid where I worked in conflict of interest law - and have I got a story about how the phrase "but her e-mails" is an arrow shot through my heart). There's 100 reasons why I don't have any CNN Apps on any of my devices. And haven't subscribed to any cable (pulled the cord in 2016) companies. Trying to make a normal election out of this fiasco with their shitty headlines (about Cohen, now), isn't helping them.
Got rid of the TV 15 yrs ago with no need to look back. I get what I want, when I want online.
