I feel like if he announced he was doing a farewell tour. He should play this song at his final show. Because 24 years ago he had nothing. But now he is infinite.

i didn't even consider this to be an 'oldschool' beat until u mentioned it (which you're correct). its just u think 'oldschool', u usually think a by-gone era/outdated/etc. but i mean these type of (vinyl-sampled) beats have just made such a huge comeback these days, they basically overshadow their predecessor.
swear i just heard this song for the first time _yesterday.._ randomly popped up on pandora & i swear at first i thot i was hearing Mac miller or G eazy or Logic, [or based solely off the beat id say;] A$ap or Joey Badazz or maybe Cudi... *it blew my mind* when i checked to see it said EMINEM -of all rappers Lol. had me thinking is this some new style sh!t hes workin on?...nah. couldnt believe this is what he was humbly puttin out there in '96 right before he blew the fnck up '98.

Remove a word from the verse, and it wouldn't feel like it does. Absolutely his best work. Sure he has more complex work, but flow, rhymes, it's this song that I fell in love with his music. [Intro]
Aw, yeah (It's like this, like this)
    It's Eminem, baby
Back up in that motherfuckin' ass
    ('Til forever, 'til forever)
One time for your motherfuckin' mind (For MC's, MC's)
We represent the 313-you know what I’m sayin'?
Yo, they don’t know shit about this, for the '96
    [Verse 1]
Ayo, my pen and paper cause a chain reaction
To get your brain relaxin', the zany actin' maniac in action
A brainiac in fact, son, you mainly lack attraction
You look insanely wack when just a fraction of my tracks run
My rhymin' skills got you climbin' hills
I travel through your mind and to your spine like siren drills
I'm slimin' grills of roaches, with spray that disinfects
And twistin' necks of rappers 'til their spinal column disconnects
Put this in decks and check the monologue
Turn your system up, twist 'em up
And indulge in the marijuana smog
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more car-tunes than animation
My lamination of nar-er-ration, hits a snare and bass
On a track for duck rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be starin' gazin'
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland; I'm Infinite
    [Hook]
You heard of Hell, well, I was sent from it
I went to it, servin' a sentence
    For murderin' instruments
Now I'm tryin' to repent from it
But when I hear the beat, I'm tempted
To make another attempt at it; I'm Infinite
    [Verse 2]
Bust it, I let the beat commence
So I can beat the sense in your elite defense
I got some meat to mince
A crew to stomp, and then two feet to rinse
I greet the gents and ladies, I spoil loyal fans
I foil plans and leave fluids leakin' like oil pans
My coiled hands around this microphone are lethal
    One thought in my cerebral
Is deeper than a jeep-full of people
MC's are feeble, I came to cause some pandemonium
Battle a band of phony MC's, and stand the lonely one
    Imitator, intimidator, stimulator
    Simulator of data, eliminator
There's never been a greater since the burial of Jesus
Fuck around and catch all the venereal diseases
My thesis'll smash a stereo to pieces
My a cappella releases classic masterpieces
Through telekinesis, it eases you mentally
    Gently, sentimentally, instrumentally
With entity, dementedly meant to be Infinite
    [Hook]
You heard of Hell, well, I was sent from it
I went to it, servin' a sentence
    For murderin' instruments
Now I'm tryin' to repent from it
But when I hear the beat, I'm tempted
To make another attempt at it; I'm Infinite
    [Verse 3]
Man, I got evidence, I'm never dense
And I've been clever ever since my residence was hesitant
To do some shit that represents the MO
    So I'm assumin' all responsibility
‘Cause there's a monster real in me
That always wants to kill emcees
Mic nestler, slammin' like a wrestler
Here to make a mess of a lyric-smugglin' embezzler
No one is specialer, my skill is intergalactical
I get cynical, act a fool
Then I send a crew back to school
I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn't practical
I'd rather let a tactical, tactful track tickle your fancy
In fact, I can't see, or can't imagine
A man who ain't a lover of beats or a fan of scratchin'
So this is for my family, the kid who had a cameo
On my last jam, plus the man who never had a plan B
Be all you can be, ‘cause once you make an instant hit
I'm tensed a bit, and tempted
When I see the sins my friends commit; I'm Infinite
    [Hook]
You heard of Hell, well, I was sent from it
I went to it, servin' a sentence
    For murderin' instruments
Now I'm tryin' to repent from it
But when I hear the beat, I'm tempted
To make another attempt at it; I'm Infinite
You heard of Hell, well, I was sent from it
I went to it, servin' a sentence
    For murderin' instruments
Now I'm tryin' to repent from it
But when I hear the beat, I'm tempted
To make another attempt at it; I'm Infinite
    [Outro]
    '95, '96 ('96)
And on and on and on (and on and on)

The problem with Em’s music back in this era was that it was too good, seriously. The flows are so complex that the average person can’t wrap their head around them. A lot of lines just sound like random words unless you listen closely, he is rapping actual messages in the most complex rhyme schemes imaginable. This song is so genius lyrically/flow wise, when he says “I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn’t practical, I’d rather let tactical, tactful track tickle your fancy, in fact I can’t see, or can’t imagine, a man who ain’t a lover of beats or a fan of scratchin” that line shows a truly insane mastery of the English language and how it rhythmically interacts with a beat to make rap. He delivers it in the most complex, atypical way, it’s proof that Em has an extremely unique mind when it comes to processing language. Once in a lifetime wordsmith. He’s a far better wordsmith than he is a musician, and I’m not saying he’s a bad musician, so take that how you will.

Funny cause I've heard people say infinite was just meaningless rhymes. But its definitely not. My only gripe is its kinda in that old school mentality of "my rhymes are the best and nobody is on my level" . Regardless of how good this song was its tainted by all the crappy rappers that cant think of anything to say so they use the theme of being the best. So that's the only reason why this song isn't in my top 5 because a lot of rappers used this theme and its not very creative. Eminem and few others could pull it off proper it was mostly used by rappers who were not elites so they'd just say they were lol.

… My songs can make you cry, take you by surprise at the same time
Can make you dry your eyes with the same rhyme
See what you're seein' is a genius at work, which to me isn't work
So it's easy to misinterpret it at first
      'Cause when I speak, it's tongue-in-cheek
I'd yank my fuckin' teeth before I'd ever bite my tongue
I'd slice my gums, get struck by fuckin' lightning twice at once
And die and come back as Vanilla Ice's son
And walk around the rest of my life spit on
And kicked and hit with shit every time I sung
Like R. Kelly as soon as "Bump and Grind" comes on
More pain inside of my brain than the eyes of a little girl
Inside of a plane aimed at the World Trade, standin' on Ronnie's grave
Screamin' at the sky, 'til clouds gather, it's Clyde Mathers and Bonnie Jade
And that's pretty much the gist of it
Parents are pissed, but the kids love it
Nine millimeter heater stashed in two-seaters with meat cleavers
I don't blame you, I wouldn't let Hailie listen to me neither

When recording an Album, you can do a number of tracks first etc...It all comes to song listing, you and your creative team come together to select which song comes first, second to last...It depends on what you wanna do with the album...you can even find that this was the last song he recorded but the producer or engineer thought it's worth being the opening song to the project. Plus he probably had many tracks recorded for this but decided to select these particular songs as they best reflect the album's themes

Well the only problem I see about is that the lyrics don't mean anything past self promotion. His next album Slim Shady LP was a bit more conscious at least. Yes the rhymes are good but there is no insight or story. Its all just I AM THE BEST, especially this song. It's not his best album in my opinion.

  • @southpaw117
    @southpaw117 2 роки тому +51

I ignored this album for years because I figured that anything pre-SSLP was merely a mediocre stepping stone to his eventual greatness. The first time I heard this song was when I decided to put it on at work, and it absolutely blew my mind; I had to stop what I was doing and sit down to take it all in. Yeah, it might not be anything unique in theme, but the lyrics, the flow, the beat, and especially the chorus just carry me back to the mid-90s. This is definitely one of my favourite songs he's ever done.
