January 15th 2013 absolutely changed my life. I learned I could stand to be in a crowd as long as I stared at my shoes long enough to remember to breathe. I learned that when you clap among a crowd of people you can lose your fears and just clap. I learned that watching your heroes on stage is as amazing and as wonderful as it sounds like it should be. I learned that you can fall in love with words when they are whispered into a microphone the same way you can fall in love with words when you read them in your basement. I learned that community is every bit about the people that make it. And most importantly, I learned that I can make it through a year - even if it kills me. I plan to make it to January 15th 2015, with all my scars and cuts, I will make it through this year if it kills me. Because I know I can. I've done it before. Thank you John and Hank. I owe you two so much.
Cass M Glad to hear that. i don't think the ride ever truly ends, unfortunately. And yes, thanks for asking. I somehow managed to *get* social anxiety due to a few things (like poor transition from HS to college) so right now I am kind of rebuilding myself.
This is my favorite Vlogbrothers video of all time. Being able to witness all the anticipation, fear and joy of this event through the intimate lens of Hank's camera releases me from my own fear and anticipation, and, if only for an infinite moment, lets me vicariously live the joys of this day.
Did I cry to a video that was posted 7 years ago?...yeahhhhh. 2020's been rough so I'd like to say thank you to you guys for helping me get through it :)
Totally, like, whoa, indeed! In the very best way. It was so great to spend a whole evening with so many fantastic people. So thank you, Hank, and everyone who made it awesome!
I was lucky enough to attend the show, and I don't know what to say! Every single thing about it made me thoroughly happy & proud. Everyone performing (& everyone in attendance), made me feel so included in this huge community of spectacular people who really make differences in the world, & in other people's lives! Leaving the show, I was very inspired to share that kind of connectedness & hope. I really just want to thank/hug everyone! John and Hank, you really started an amazing thing here!!
That song already means so much to my friends and I, and being there singing it with them and with you means more than I can say. Thank you for that show. The energy in that room was a rare and beautiful thing.
I've been watching since 2007, and was so excited to get to attend the Carnegie Hall event. I don't think I've ever been in a place with so many people who were just so so happy and excited and loving life. Watching this video cause me to grin ridiculously as I did all through the show. Thanks for so much awesome, John and Hank. You've changed my perpective on life in so many ways.
My school's choir sang at Carnegie Hall back in 2011! This brings back so many memories of being backstage and walking on the stage for the first time...It's an amazing view!
I am leaking tears over here. This community is always giving me chills. It's amazing how inspired I feel just thinking about Nerdfighters and what all John and Hank have accomplished. I cannot put into words how grateful I am--to all of you. DFTBA and all BEST wishes.
You DO deserve it. For the joy that the world has been able to show to you, you have brought joy a thousand fold to the world. Thank you Hank. Thank you John.
I haven't watched the Carnegie hall video, but just seeing your excitement(both of you) in this video made me smile. One of my favorite things is seeing you two excited about things.
I am so thankful for the upload of the evening of awesome. There was absolutely no way I could have made it to New York for the show, but the fact that I could watch it in it's entirety on UA-cam is such in incredible gift. It's pretty amazing that Nerdfighters could share the experience whether we were there or not. What an amazing community.
I love how grateful you guys are! There has been a lot of stuff going around with youtubers that are frustrated and I'm glad you still enjoy it very much ;)
I really wish I could have actually been there, but watching the livestream was still an amazing, unforgettable experience and I can't express my love for it in words. It made my Wednesday, my week, hell, my year so far, pretty awesome. I love you guys so much.
This video makes me so happy. The Green brothers are so thankful for their success and it makes me proud to be a fan. It makes me happy to see people like them "get the long end of the stick". Sometimes, good things really do happen to good people. Stay awesome guys!
This video made me incredibly happy. You would expect to be envious of the things Hank and John get to do, but somehow I'm only excited and genuinely giddy to see them achieve all the levels of success that they have risen to. Such is the magic of Nerdfighteria I suppose.
I believe that this is my new favorite vlogbrothers video. There is so much happy. And so much awesome. Thank you so much for live streaming the show it was an amazing couple of hours and really cool that I could partake even when new York on a random Tuesday is out of reach. DFTBA
I watched the livestream alone from a hotel room where I was feeling rather homesick. It made me so happy while at the same time making me cry and feel less lonely. Good work on making me feel all the feels!
I went to New York City with my little brother, definitely the Hank to my John in a lot of ways, to see this show at Carnegie Hall and it was seriously the best day of my life. Thank you so much for that.
A friend of mine passed away tonight and it is so strange to sit here and watch something so full of amazing people doing awesome things. I haven't cried yet but I want to cry just from knowing there are still Good Things out there. Brain Scoop is awesome and funny and a Good Thing. This is a weird comment, I'm sorry.
The Vlogbrothers have been an unimaginably consistent source of happiness and inspiration in my life. I never thought it possible I could feel so happy for the success of someone whom I have never met. But every time I see/read about the next amazing thing these guys have done, I am thrilled, chilled, and empowered.
Dear Hank and John, I just wanted to say thank you. There was a time, a few years ago, when I would have resented you for getting such a long end of the stick. I would have seen the Evening of Awesome and simply thought "Why does all the cool stuff happen to OTHER people?" But you have shown me that awesome is not a finite resource. I feel lucky and happy to live in a world, and be part of a community where such things happen. Thank you for being awesome, and making me a better person. -Fanny
Hank and John! I was at Carnegie Hall the day before you and my choir sat on the third balcony from the bottom on the left side.I have to say Carnegie hall is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. Hope you enjoyed your performance and I'm proud of you guys!
Ahhh I jusy want to cry. This is so happy. I am so thankful you two exist in the world. The dictionary needs to change its definition of awesome to the vlogbrothers.
I couldn't agree more. It is so amazing...Bringing people together who would normally never be together...Bring me closer to my 6 years older then me sister...Maning awesome happen...It's just amazing, and as you so well put it, just so beautiful. DFTBA
I still cannot believe you guys got Carnegie hall. I actually felt a little catch in my throat watching this. It's all so amazing and you guys deserve every bit of it.
I had the fortunate opportunity to travel to NYC and perform at Carnegie Hall with my high school choir (combined with many other choirs) for a master class workshop. The footage of walking onto the stage brought back many memories. Glad you guys had an awesome experience!
I watched the livestream on Tuesday and it was so fantastic! I'm glad you guys get to do such cool things and you've inspired me and so many others to do cool things as well. Thank you both for never forgetting to be awesome :)
Having so many proud mama feelings right now -3 I love watching my favorite stars succeed. John and Hank, you two are incredible, and I'm so incredibly thrilled by all of your success. Here's to more to come :) DFTBA
I couldn't watch it live because I was in bed with the flu, so I am very much glad it was recorded. Thank you so much...I loved all of it, even the parts I didn't expect to love. You guys are amazing and should never EVER forget to be awesome, because you are so good at it :)
I always feel nothing but happiness for nerdfighteria :'D. Saw the event through streaming and it was on absolute epic proportions. Never thought I could get happier for you guys. Its been a bit over five years, and you still haven't forgotten to be awesome.
As a long term lurker in nerdfighteria I genuinely feel thankful for the vlogbrothers and everything you've created. The least of which is this community. Whilst you might not have much of a channel without us, we wouldn't have a home without you guys. Here's to Carnegie Hall and many more. DFTBA and much, much more. XxX
I'm really proud of what this community accomplished before me, and I'm proud to be a part of this community. VlogBrothers has really influenced me in a way I didn't think anything could at this point in my life and you guys deserve all the best.
sometimes i think about how far you guys have come from brotherhood 2.0 and i just get really happy because if someone had told you guys everything youd do when you made that first video youd have laughed in their faces but now look at you guys im so proud
I found my way here when I checked out Looking For Alaska from my school's library, read it in one night, and then proceeded to read and buy the rest of John's books like an addict. I saw the link to vlogbrothers on the book jacket of The Fault in Our Stars, and looked into it. I found you guys when i really needed the company. Thanks for all the laughs and introducing me to a slew of great UA-camrs, I'm forever in your debt.
So, my high school choir from California got invited by Heritage Festivals to be featured in a choir festival at Carnegie Hall next month, and then we got invited to sing for all of America on the Today Show, and I just wanted to say that, as odd as it may sound, I'm mostly just excited to stand on the same stage as John and Hank Green. You two have influenced me and my thoughts and my perspective on the world in the last six years in more ways than you could know. So, thank you.
1) I was lucky enough to be at the Evening of Awesome and it was utterly impressively amazing. I was swimming in dopamine and my own smiling for hours after it was over. My parents, who aren't even Nerdfighters, came and loved it tremendously. 2) You and John do deserve the long end of the stick, Hank. You two have worked so hard for your current standing and rightfully deserve it.
DONE! After watching this I have completely absolutely watched EVERY Vlogbrother video posted... (you need a play list for 2012) Keep it up. You have improved my life and changed my perspective on everything.
This year has become my new theme song for this year, and possibly all th years to come. It reminds me of Nerdfighteria, John, Hank, everything good about this world, and how when you keep fighting, you can make a huge difference in this world.
I am so happy for you and everyone in Nerdfighteria that the Evening of Awesome happened! It was a gift to you, yes, but as with everything you pour yourselves into, it was a gift to us. Thank you! DFTBA!
"This Year" was the song which introduced me to the mountain goats, it just takes the awesome this video would have had anyways and raises it to a whole new level
KYAAAAAHHHH! Fifth viewing of all vlogbrothers videos complete! Hank, John, I love you guys, you're like my weird and awesome internet-only family. Thanks for over 1,000 videos that have shaped my life over the last few years. DFTBA!
So...John and Hank (and others affiliated with them) do deserve the long end of the stick. They inadvertently built a community based on the idea that people should do more awesome things and do them together. Why on earth does that make them fortunate? They work so hard to keep their integrity and I love it. So much. So so much. :)
I performed at Carnegie Hall in March with Manhattan Concert Production's National Festival Chorus. It was unbelievable. My main focus was not passing out on stage!
I was miles and miles away from nyc, but even just watching the livestream was an incredible experience. Cool stuff that happens to you is by extension cool for the rest of us. I can't wait to see you guys in London (though good luck topping that show EVER)

So proud of you.
I laughed out loud at "The Fault Is In Our Stairs". Good one, Hannah.
You just cannot watch this without smiling and feeling incredibly happy for Hank & John.
"As a reward for giving me that long stick." CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING!
"The fault is In our stairs. I'll be here all night."
This is my favorite Vlogbrothers video of all time. Being able to witness all the anticipation, fear and joy of this event through the intimate lens of Hank's camera releases me from my own fear and anticipation, and, if only for an infinite moment, lets me vicariously live the joys of this day.

Totally teared up. I continue to be moved by passionate people doing what they love.
One of my favorite songs to accompany a show featuring some of my favorite people...
After watching the live stream of the event, I've been listening to "This Year" on reply for days. Love it. Love you guys!

I can never watch the end of An Evening of Awesome without tearing up. Can't. Do. It.

I performed at Carnegie Hall in March with Manhattan Concert Production's National Festival Chorus. It was unbelievable. My main focus was not passing out on stage!
It was an amazing and I shed some happy tears watching the Evening of Awesome.
I didn't know about The Brain Scoop! It looks awesome!
How big can my smile get?
You do totally deserve the longest of long sticks! Thanks for sharing a stick so long that thousands of people can share it!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HENRY GREEN... two years old today! (20th January) You have one of the greatest families I know.
I had fun watching the show online :-) Great that I and others gave the opportunity to watch it!
thank you so much for being so awesome
You were amazing. So proud to have been at Carnegie Hall, albeit in seats all the way at the top, but so proud. All the feels.
Even though I wasn't able to be at Carnegie hall, i am so happy that i was able to watch the live stream along with so many other amazing people
I was miles and miles away from nyc, but even just watching the livestream was an incredible experience. Cool stuff that happens to you is by extension cool for the rest of us. I can't wait to see you guys in London (though good luck topping that show EVER)
Your dedication to the cause is admirable.
While watching through some old Vlogbrothers videos, I stumbled upon this one by accident. Turns out it's two years old today. Time flies.
Well, six years old now.
This montage made me so inexplicably happy....
It's nice seeing good things happen to people... gives me hope when nothing good happens for me.
I was watching this video on my tv while putting my groceries away and had to come open my computer to leave a comment to say I was dancing for the whole first half. God I love The Mountain Goats. I wrote about my experience watching the Carnegie Hall live stream on tumblr as a response to Alex Carpenter's wonderful video on your guys. It meant a lot and made me realize a lot about this wonderful community.
I can't wait for the gifs of that dance. Congratulations, guys, you make a lot of us proud to be nerdfighters every day, and you give me a lot of hope every day as well. The Evening of Awesome made me cry and scream and fangirl, and it was one of the best nights of my life, even stuck as I am in Nebraska.
I wish I could have been there in person, but I live in the Netherlands. My friend was there, though. I've never been so envious of anyone.
Anyway, the live show was the best night of my week and perhaps my month. Thank you so much for everything.
This was definitely the most awesome evening i've ever been to. Thank you.
These are so heartwarming!!
hank, your dance moves never fail to impress!
i love you guys and this community so much! ahhhhhhh
