Comparing skater xl, session, and skate 3 by doing the same tricks in all 3 games to get the best idea of what each game looks like side by side.

landing a trick in skate 3 just looks so good. way better than session or skater xl. They both just need to have less robotic landings and they'd actually look really good

Session looks brilliant until the landings both the animation and sound just feels off. Skate has the perfect mix of realistic looking animation and that 90s skater video sound where the audio isnt perfect and slightly peaks but its the sound we are used to so it feels right.
That may be true but I would definitely say skate XL has way better animations then sessions in general since those are the two new games I'm guessing that Skate 3 was just a reference point though I do like Skate 2 better I understand it because Skate 3 was the newest one when it was new

I think what people are forgetting is the kind of audience both Session and XL are trying to make a game for, and more importantly, the fact they're both small indie studios and not EA.
People who expect and need a story to keep them playing will probably be disappointed. Not to mention both are early access. As far as the developers have said, XL will never have a story or even challenges for that matter, since the type of people they're targetting shouldn't really care for them.
Sure, may be nice for a story. But then what? You'll just end up skating around anyway unless you choose to redo the story countless times. And with these small studios. Adding a fully fledged story could both rapidly extend development time, and take away from improving things that actually matter. Like the physics and core mechanics.
eli couldn’t agree more! I think if skater xl decides to do a story it will be a few months after the release and probably just add weekly challenges to the game as something to do.

Skater XL just looks so clean
It's not it plays like a horrible tech demo/ mobile game. Thankfully steam as a 2 hour refund policy. Session is miles ahead

Skate 3’s landings look the steeziest, Session’s characters don’t have much fluidity, and Skater XL just looks beautiful.
Session has my local skate shop merch so I like it
SKATE XL is more realistic when doing the tricks, I mean specifically when falling and absorbing the impact by bending the knees, i like that!!

Skate 2 was better than both if u wanna go for realism. U had security and skate stoppers graphics were on point, skate spots were on point. Physics was actually good especially since it was made in 2009. Session and Skater XL got ntn on skate 2. Even if they did have money they don’t have the creativity since skate 2 is basically their base. Without skate 2 skater XL and session wouldn’t be a thing

I love the nuanced animations for compensating balance during landings on Skate 3. The other two just doesn't feel like there's physics involved.

As a former sk8ter I remember back when SK8 3 came out was just incredible, have been playing it on PS3 today after almost 10 years and still feels amazing.

Tychoツ session and XL basically started from scratch with their own funds. Skate series had EA. They dont even have blackbox company anymore.
september 24 first of all skate 2 is literally a way better version of session and skater xl. Skate 3 is the best game overall because it drew in people who don’t even skateboard bc the game was a mix of realism and arcade. Session and skater xl is a wanna be skate 2. Now for skate 4. Idgaf if they started from scratch at the end of the day skate 4 well most definitely end up better whether they go for a skate 3 feel or skate 2 feel. Skate 4 is definitely gonna have more money and they have to use it to their advantage. Skater xl and session at the end of the day are gonna be garbage compared to skate 4. Idc if they had less money to work with oh well life is unfair and skate 4 will come out on top

I think skater xl is beter cuz not every trick isent a set animation. So you can put your style on it.
In both SXL and session .. it seems the player has NO weight at all ... when they land a trick from a high spot there is no impact.
In Session there is a specif option in which you have to be prepared for the impact using the sticks for high spots; but, graphically, I agree, however, we should remember that it's still in early access. I like Session for the hardcore mode, which automatically includes that mentioned option.
Definitely session look's like they just barely touch down. Watch again though skater xl looks good with the landing animation the way he bends his knees and everything plus looks the most realistic and most fluid. Skate if you look carefully it is just the deeper sound when landing that gives the illusion of better landing animation.
also when you can skate on the ceiling while laying on your board in skate three.
Love skate 3 n I still play it but I'm happy that were getting session or skater xl on console. I like the video edits aswell super dope. Real SKATEBOARDERS will appreciate this we don't need the story line period

Skate 3 sounds are crazy, and this game and the 2 before him will have a huge place in my heart for ever.
But for now, I love Session and SXL the same and so happy we have 2 games being worked at the same time with 2 different gameplay, I play them both and have a lot of pleasure playing it.

Yup. I kept my copy of Skate 2 and am selling my copy of Skate 3. Some of the stuff they added to Skate 3 were cool but the physics felt significantly worse.

And a hardcore mode that was trying to be realistic for some instances like popping out of grinds.
But I have to admit playing session for a month now and seeing skate3 physics has got me shocked at the character's pop and speed. I didn't recall it that way but if my memory serves me right there was a mega park sooo... hahaha

The controls in the skate game were ahead of their time for sure. Even if they were released today with the exact same controls but better graphics everyone would love them. Skater XL looks like it has refined those controls though and I'm super stoked for that.

The mods make skater xl. I think without them then session probably wins. Session feels more realistic when u play it. But then when u mod skater xl its whatever you want it to be.

Mason Storme i mean from a pc point of view. SkaterXL would need a few updates before its worthy if console imo. The base game doesnt have nearly enough to skate. We’ll see what happens in next month or so.
Kris McConnochie the base beta game on pc doesn’t have much. But the console game has 7 extremely large area. One being shown already. Which is downtown LA.

Thankgod for session and skaterxl two skating games that got it right for the most part. sEssion is all techie and so much fun skaterxl havent played yet because idont have pc later this month hopefully itll be available digitially. Ilike how skaterxldoesthings its a blend ofskate andsession. Ilove session thTs all ive been playing. Ihope we get more updates for it.

Good choice Skate 3 is amazing!!! And definitely the best out of the 3 covered in the video. Id also recommend you look at Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 its really good aswell. I can answer questions about both games if you want.

the difference is xl is a skating game, session is a skating sim.
What makes session superior to me is the controls, they're perfectly intuitive and they really move as your feet would irl. That sold me on session.

all good games. at this point i like xl more because of the freedom in tweaking all your tricks. sessions all the flat tricks and grinds look the same there isnt much tweaking to it yet. overall still great to play.

Sessions animations feel kind of unnatural. Skater xl is more realistic on that field, though they need to improve their graphics. I prefer skater xl just because the feeling is more important to me :)

Tough call. Skate 3 still has more content and more tricks variety, grabs, invert, vert in general etc. Havent played skate 3 in ages though and not sure if the new two games are yet at a point that i couldnt go back to skate 3.
between the new two id say skater xl has better controls but session looks better. i dont mind what either are going for with their controls but currently skater xl's are implemented better. The turning and rotating in session needs improving. Hard to line up tricks and even harder just to get a nice smooth 180 or 270's over hips etc, its almost 360 or nothing really.
vert on both about the same though id go skater xl for ramps in general though sessions new update with transition is pretty smooth. downfalls for skater xl in vert id say is you usually only make it halfway up the ramp before needing to ollie out else you get no air and i notice your feet go through the board in replays when you land. for session vert downfalls are no grabs and again turning/rotating. cant stress how much session absolutely need to improve the turning/rotating in their game. with either 3 of their turning systems pressure, timed, speed its still unreasonably difficult to just get a nice simple 180 done consistently.
id say session is much better at animations and just how good the tricks look. especially since they added the ability to kinda bone ollies, kickflips etc. also their late flips and late shove its are awesome. kickflip late shuv its down stair sets look beast. skater xl flip tricks on replay just stop by magic then your skater gets his feet back on a while later and the catch system doesnt really look a lot better than that. plus again your feet go through the board on heavy landings replays.

I ain't tried Skater XL or Session so Skate 3 is what I have to go with and Skate 3 was my go to skate game for 5 years now.
Session just looks way more realistic and I love the guys behind it. Also they are pushing major updates every month so got to hand it to creature studios

I hope Session & Skater can get their game to look and feel as clean as Skate does or even better. It would be all without pre animations so itll be great to witness
keep in mind that the studios making Session and Skater XL don't have the access to everything or the money that EA has. but im sure if we all support these games, and have fun with them, they will get better over time. remember Skate 1 didn't even give us the option to get off the board.

On Session, the guy doesn’t bend his knees the way he should on the Kickflip Crooked Grind
skater xl's character looks like he just jumps up and stays airborne till the board somehow stops rotating then lands on it one foot at a time. i don't know if they're gonna be able to fix how it looks with their flicking system.
Dope vid but it’s the differences that should be compared. The procedural board flipping in skater xl, the tight controls and difficulty of session are what set them apart. Pressure flips , animations , physics , where the transition mechanics sit currently, ect. The devil is in the details and there’s so many tiny details just in the animations alone (foot adjustment , balance adjustment , landing , flicking , pushing , etc) that set them apart and imo push them past what skate 3 was doing. Even when it comes to the tricks in this vid. There are so many different ways to do them in session and skater xl. What corner of the board are you flipping off in session? What foot/leg are you holding out in skater xl? Tweaking , catching , etc . The level of modification in the new games is far above skate 3 obviously (its a 10 year old game like you said) but compared to each other , session and skater xl are doing a lot of different (and new) things. Not hating , video still dope. got my like and sub. Keep it up 👍

Skate 3 got the best Tre flip hands down 😂 session looks more weighted which is a good thing, but isn’t as fluid as skater xl (especially while grinding) but skater xl looks too floaty tho. I’m gonna get them both honestly and both games are gonna be awesome in their own way
Skater XL has mods to fix the floaty-ness. It isn't as bad as it looks in this video since he's highpopping but it's not ideal nonetheless
@@Clearo don't count mods towards the game. when it comes out on console skater xl going to be terrible since mods make most of the game. lol try it with no mods and see if you can consistently play it for a week
k i should reiterate, it's not going to be terrible but the mods are adding a lot to it that the stripped down version won't have

and now whenever anyone has a legit concern the only answer is "there's a mod for it". if you guys hear this phrase, just remember it won't be in the console version release at all

Their is one thing I noticed big time was that in skater XL and Skate 3 when your guy does a trick down stairs your guy actually bends his knees down when he hits the floor which makes it look better and flow more smoothly but with session I don’t see any impact when the guy hits the ground but I do see some impact and movement in Skate 3 and in Skater XL. I will say that I grew up with Skate 1, 2 and 3 so I prefer those but I play PS4 so I never got a chance to play Skate on there. Anyways I would say Skate and Skater XL looks dope but session doesn’t look as great.
I. Happy that both skater xl and session are almost done but I give the win to skater xl. It looks, plays, physics are so much smoother. Session feels like I’m playing roblox. But honestly do wish the controls were a little easier not as easy as skate 3 but just a tad bit easier.

Session is just 9 bucks on Steam right now, had to snack it! definitely will buy skater XL down the road before its leaves early Access and the price goes up
The 3 of them are great games not much of a difference between each other the only thing is to be patient and wait until the final versions are released
And everyone is forgetting these new games are like real life everyone is going to have a different style, so animation errors that you see in other players style for eg. the bs 360 kickflip animation for skater xl was a bit off. But as we get used tot he controls we’re the only ones stopping our trick lines from looking realistic and smooth. Another example is a lot of people who play skate 3 still don’t know pumping into transition looks, and is way better then using the push mechanic when airing half pipes.
I like skate 3 cause you can trickline and stuff never play sesh or xl they look dope but can you trickline on it like skate 3 cause that would be dope and also do they have cool skate parks like mega park and the ditch
Im buying both as long as they both come to console, but in reality skate 3 and skater xl both seem to have the issue of having one trick end then the other start, in session it looked like he stomped the kickflip into the crooked. and in the other two games it looked like the board ended its rotation and then he landed into a crooked.

Sessions is the best! Game mechanics are much better! I prefer using the two joy sticks for both feet as to one joy stick.
