I think the theory is that the mask is of the young Abel being put on the old Abel. Maybe alluding to his “successful” jaunt through purgatory. Every Weeknd video is like The DaVinci Code 😂🖤🔥

My theory is this, at the end of the Gasoline music video The weeknd did beat his old self at the club and in this music video we see while his old self is in a coma situation and hes going under surgery and beacause the song is about regrets we see a memory from his past about a night that he spent with this girl and at the end when he wakes up we see that Jim Carrey is putting a mask on The weekends old versions face (because his face got wrecked in the gasoline music video). Also we see a glimpse of the old man's face at the end when The weeknds young version and the girl are spinning/dancing.
