I ran a Cat 651 tractor with a 641 pan in 1963 building Interstate 80 in Nebraska. Used the smaller pan because we were moving mostly sand which was a lot heavier than dirt. Used a D-9 push Cat to load us. We were hauling our loads quite a distance so they wanted us to run flat out which us younger operators liked. Couldn't use seat belts it would shake you to death, just stand up and flex your knees. Fun job, good memories.
In 2002 it cost us 170k to repower a 657E I can't remember exactly how many we Repowered around 50 and probably 30B models and I think we had about 80 651B and E models we repowered along with all the support equipment we repowered when we started doing are B models cat diddent even have a replacement engine they wanted us to trade in and buy new but we found a cat Industrial engine that meet all the EPA requirements came up with are own jig patterns and started are own repower program after awhile cat was on are job sigh checking are work and doing some copying and started there own program there was alot of contractors in the state that had alot of equipment cat Seen dollar sighs realized averybody wasn't going to trade in and by new we would get on repower programs with the county and they would pay for a major part of the bill for the repower all we had to do is agree to keep that machine in there county for 2 years or pay Penalties. Sometimes we were so scarce on equipment that we did pay the penalties And run. The equipment in another county.
I worked on the one with black and yellow hook on the front, the price comparison isn’t as much as you’d think it would be cost wise but because of def in newer machines a lot of people choose to rebuild old machines instead of buying new ones
Lot of guys don’t want the newer stuff not mainly because of the cost but because nobody wants def, a rebuild like this one we did is 3/4 million dollars, not saving much compared to a new machine but better reliability when it comes to the engine

C model scrapers will smoke anything D models and up. Worse cabs but wayyyyy more power. Didn’t overheat either.

What percentage was saved rebuilding over replacing with comparable new ones?
Not sure on the price difference but not having emissions nonsense is priceless.
@@lieutenantdangle3128 that is absolutely true!!

Did you use the Kinsey manual LOL
What's the cost comparison with buying new replacements?

How much was the rebuild Cost ?
❤❤GREAT MACHINES SHAME ABOUT THE MUSIC BEING ADDED 🤪🤪🤪
Real life bubbles
We moved 300 000 yards a mile in 2 months in new 627 s in show low az 2014
From York pa correct
I like older stuff like me heard now there's no black smoke rolling
Glad you are enjoying these machines, but your click bait title sucks when you don't actually answer the question.
I would rather listen to those diesels than that crappy music
The “music “ really sucked! Rather hear the machines working.
If it is new it is not rebuilt. A used machine can be rebuilt. These are newly rebuilt scrapers. Not new.
You didn’t do it for your employees, you did it for cost measures. Let’s be real now.
Do you really need that much music? That's why I stopped watching @ 1:38.
👍👍👍
You'll never guess why. And you'll never tell us.
There’s nothing like caterpillar, but Bobcat and John Deere yucky
The music and all the jerking around junked the video
Yes sir it did, quit watching early. Engine sounds would've been way better
