Toyota Corolla AE92 GTi Review & Road Test - Perfect Sleeper?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- Everyone in the car community loves the AE86, but it's time we learn to love the Toyota Corolla GTi AE92. Most will say say it’s a disappointment, because it’s front-wheel drive, but in this review & road test I will show you that the 4AGE engine is wonderful even with "wrong wheel drive".

Had an early 90's one of these, straight through exhaust and k&n filter, getting 0 to 60mph in 7 seconds and 130mph top speed. Still the funnest car I've owned, really miss her.
Do you think thé modifications you made helped to gain accellerations ?
@@guitariste47 probably not. just ricer sounds nothing else
Not sure but sounded good, the engine in these just loved to be thrashed and never died. Legend
I just got my driver's license and this is my car, I'm very happy because I love 90's cars and to have the opportunity to drive one makes me happy
Just bought one of these, absolutely loving it so far
Great video. We only got the FX16 for 2 years here in the state (1987/1988) but would’ve loved to own an Ae92 version of the car as well
nice to get some rolling shots. there can't be many 92s and they probably won't be restored like 86s so it's great to see one so well kept after all these years. best wishes as always.
Thank you for your support! This one really feels like a brand new car :-D I will hopefully get some more rolling/fly-by shots from now on I am glad people like them :-) Cheers
I just bought myself a 1988 16valve 4age ae92 fxgt hatch, with digital dash factory manual couple of tasteful mods, best 1500 bucks I ever spent hahaha
how’s it going bro
Wtf is the intro with the cat
JK this is a great video! Nice review
Great review, glad I still have mine to this day
One thing u really forgot to mention is that Toyota engineer made the 4a-ge engine toghether with Yamaha engineers. which makes it even more special
I think that this is the kind of car that is able to do most of the usual stuff that a person might need, plus, it's a toyota, they're reliable.
It's a great option if you want a daily driver that's practical and also has some spicy performance!
Yeah, something nice and that you can have some fun with.
victorMD11 Big problem with these generations of Corollas is rust. Any little scratch on the paint can lead to metal being completely wasted.
@@dailydriverreviews i read it's a big sluggish because of its weight. Is it fun compared to other GTIs ?
@@dailydriverreviews i found a good one it has a bit of rust but owner says its nothing bad idk if I should get it
The funny thing that people forget, back in the Group A days, the front drive car was as fast if not faster that the AE86.
Hi, do you know the deffernce between the sx and gti model?
Great Video! :DD
Noticed that portuguese accent! :))
Ahaha Obrigado! Tenho estado a praticar :-P
Adoro estes carros máquinas, carros que duram vidas carro que fez parte da minha infância tem um valor para mim muito grande mesmo amo isto máquinas toyota 💪💪
That leather steering wheel looks brand new! And I think you forget about the seat, Those seats are so comfortable you can do a 10 hour trip without back pain.
Thank you for your comment! YES, I completely forgot to mention the seats!!! Some of the best comfortable car seats, up there with the ones in Mercedes-Benz! This car only has 50 thousand miles on the clock, so yes, it's as brand new.
Corolla E9 as GTi models are so hard to get these days and if you found one in +90% the ask price will mostly kill the rest. :D
in Australia, i've got the SE variant. it's a more budget version essentially, no power windows, no sports tachometer etc etc
Brings back memories of my old AE92
Oh, what happened to yours?
Hi, do you know the deffernce between the sx and gti model?
man those cars are just so fast for no reasons lol , i have been in a twin cam one i was very surprised with the power not like that you will expect on paper (120hp)
I have one of these, later spec though, they are great. Haven't drove it in a while, keeping mine in mint condition :)
That's a great idea, but never stop driving it! Several components may be degraded by lack of use, like in the case of the one in the video.
I almost bought one of these in high school, one of my biggest regrets in my younger years. It was that or a 89 c1500 OBS Chevy pickup, my sorry ass didn't even buy one because of other people's opinions and didn't want my sisters or my mother running off somewhere with my first car so I said fuck it.
BIG REGRET. I will own one of these one day eventually tho
Very good video as always!!
Thank you! It wouldn't have been as good without "Frozen Summer" :-D
I loved and hated mine. It was not the twin cam version. 88 Corolla FX (not FX16) It looked similar to this AE92. Nothing took a beating like that car.
This one is awesome :-D everyone assumes you're driving the cargo version with the 1.8 NA diesel until you step on it and outrun everyone in the corners!
1st and 2nd gear in mine (1.6l ohv I think) could get the jump on anyone. 40mph it was over though. Great car, ugly as sin though.
I actually had a Toyota Corolla Liftback from the same generation that I lost in a crash. I actually made a video about that.
Limp Mode Free Motoring...😆..Lately a Spider Web in your Side Mirror will send your car into Limp Mode..😂😂😂
since i want an AE86 someday but they're rare and expensive in greece
maybe its successor works too, i kinda like it
AE86s are €40,000-50,000 in Ireland 🙈
@@Mr330d there's one in Greece for 13k and one for 15k
god damn, 40k?
@@JoCaTen In Ireland they’re very sought after most of them are garaged and rarely taken out fetching stupid money now
@@Mr330d wow.. 40k... there are some Silvias (S14) around that prize here
I have this car's American 4 door cousin.... Fun car if not fast, revvy engine and close ratio 5 speed equals HOON
Congrats for the review
Parabéns pelo canal. Felizmente ou infelizmente, apesar de seres português, falas em inglês. Podias fazer em português e depois voice off em inglês, mas percebo pois tens mais visibilidade em inglês! Gostei e subscrevi! Parabéns
You remind me of Regularcars Review
Regular Car Reviews was the main inspiration for this channel. If RCR didn't exist, then this channel probably wouldn't.
Tenho um destes em casa, adoro conduzir isto, que brinquedo... eheh
This car was nicknamed the Elephant. Bet you didn't know that
I have a base model 1991 corolla I want a gti or fxgt corolla of the same year
What are you holding @3:03
I think it’s those triangular blocks (this one can be compacted) to stop your car from rolling when stationary for whatever reason. like the ones they use for big truckers
10/10 🎆
These things are now $7000-15000 in Australia :(
Man! Here in NZ they are getting up there in price too. Were the Auzzie ones built there? A lot of the ones we have here were built here and I think that seems to add to their value.
I have no idea. Anyhow cool cars are becoming pretty unaffordable and also irrational to buy in terms of value.
I’d prefer a ae92 over a ae86 any day
és português? ahahah grande vídeo parabéns
Sou sim! Obrigado ;-)
I would actually love one myself but of course toyota didn't sell the 3 door hatch in the states... so just fuck me 🤷♂️
Descobri hoje o teu canal alguem da cidade de Gaia :)
É bom saber!
Nice car
Está á venda??
Não, que eu tenha conhecimento.
Urgh that green car was sooooooo vegan D:
:P
Oh I know you enjoyed it! The seat was all wet!
+Daily Driver Reviews oh maaan.. u didnt said that...
Oh yes I did!
I own one of this but not a hatchback
Great! I actually think the sedan and liftback are the best looking
That's a beauty
Sure is, with nice long legs and great singing ;-)
tuga?
Aahahahah SIM! Sou do Porto.
Daily Driver Reviews tuga power! lol subscrito! bom video
Obrigado! Não te vais arrepender, garanto!
great car but sleeper really this car its just a little 1.6 130ch with no torque for 1100+ kg not really a sleeper lol
You clearly are misguided about what a sleeper is. A sleeper is a performance/sports car that looks exactly like the economy standard version of a model from factory OR a slow car that is modified to be super-car fast. This will blow the paint of my Mazda 323F, will beat any Golf GT-i in cornering and acceleration, it will humiliate any VAG group TDi estate, while looking just like any other Toyota Corolla driven by an old lady. This looks like any Star Van diesel. This car even has torque steer on hard acceleration, so don't just tell me it doesn't have torque.
so don't just tell me it doesn't have torque
145nm at max power jesus yes its a good car but have 0 torque even a 90's honda have more torque lol
my 100hp yaris ts performe better sleeper ahahahhaha any shit turbo diesel perform better we are in 2016 not 1980 man
I can read tech specifications too mate. If you are judging a car merely by the paper you never get the sense of how it really performs. I have driven this one and I can tell you we left many cars behind. power and torque don't say everything about the car: suspension, tires, gear box, transmission all that contributes. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/2i3mXBJNb0s/v-deo.html Even a "normal" Corolla 1.6 out accelerates and corners better than a Golf GTi.
Again, you are looking at the technical specifications. I can read too. It's not a muscle car, of course, but it's enough for a inexperienced driver to get in to trouble.
No turbo diesel on the road that day was faster than this Corolla and, by the way, the technical specifications you sent me are for a 1990-1992 Corolla. This Corolla GT-i weighs about 850 kilograms.
850 kilograms ?? lol even a crx is fatter
manufacturer data the ae92 gti weighs 1075kg 850 lol why not 700kg 600kg if you want lol
No turbo diesel on the road that day was faster than this Corolla ???? with the same hp 130 and a turbo more torque and nearly same weight corolla is faster ? that science ? you are a genuis man literally
130hp turbo diesel is the middle range of the auto park nowaday is terribly common
My fashion car (y)
Talk less about you. More about the car!
