Pavelski was a liability in the playoffs last year and it was his time, but I never saw anyone talk about how Wyatt's entire training regimen and nutrition plan and sleep schedule were all Pavelski's. This is Wyatt's first year as an actual independent player having to manage things Joe and Sarah did for him before. It made my jaw drop seeing people think he'd break 70 points this year.
Yup. Most nights they look pretty rough and yet they're right there. If they can get things rolling the way we know they can I'm not worried. Also Otter has looked great which is a silver lining
I love Matt Duchene. I honeslty wasnt sure if they were gonna bring him back or not considering all the young guys coming in, turns out it was pretty damn smart!
He's left handed and can play center. Two things in his favor. He's been a great addition and glad he resigned for this season. Hope to keep him next season too. That Mush, Seggy, Dutch line is near unstoppable
Pavelski's retirement has really hurt the Stars and their power play. Without him -both of his linemates have had their production drop off and the Power play has become a joke. I wish that he could come back as an assistant coach and continue mentoring these guys.
@ryans413 I get that Christmas isn't a global thing but this guy man, he celebrates Christmas, evidently. He's so passionate and dedicated to hockey and his channel that he posted stuff filmed that same day, because he's focused and driven like that. He then livestreamed a while, don't know how long, sharing HIS holiday spirit with his viewers. That says a LOT about the guy. If talking hockey is his passion in life (SPOILER : it is 😏) well I hope he did it as much as he wished to. I am certain this guy is THE most experienced and knowledgeable fan of the sport that has made his channel a career. I have the utmost respect for the dude, never comment except this once. If my life wasn't such a wild shitstorm and I had the means, I would pay big $ to pass a whole day getting to know him, face to face, marvel at his memorabilia and attend the game of his choice, in the seats he wants I'd definitely shell out the dough for Vip lodge if that's what he feels like. To me, Shannon is a legend. He's the 🥇🏆🏒
Stars best line by far was the Seguin, Duchene, Marchment line and since Seguin's injury the team has just not played well. Wyatt isnt as comfortable on the wing on the line with Robo and Hintz and PDB is trying to put many different players (Stankoven, Johnston, Dadonov, Bourque recently) there so that line can finally get going on the level they had with Pavs but nothing is working atm. Bourque has probably been the best fit. Stars and Nill are 100% going to be a big time buyers at the trade deadline tho because Seguin on LTIR will free up a LOT of money. No idea who or what they trade and trade for but I expect Nill to make major moves unless the next 3 months or so go so badly that they arent even in the playoff hunt which would be a colapse of epic proportions
Even before the injury Dallas was playing inconsistent. The Seggy, Mush and Dutch line is one of the best in the NHL. The injury definitely hurts us but we've been inconsistent all season. Robertson and Johnston are yet to really get going. Harley and Miro aren't really scoring. Stankhoven has finally his rookie wall. Really hoping the break helps refocus. Nill has money to play with. Question is where do you add? Or do you stand pat?
Start with firing Steve Spott, but we know they won’t because he’s DeBoer’s best friend apparently. After their abysmal -1/7 on the PP against NYR, there is no justification Spott could use to keep his job.
The power play is absolutely killing them. It's a liability more often than not. When Utah took the first penalty the other day, my initial reaction was "Oh dear God no". Steve Spott has had a bottom tier power play since he started in the NHL, but he's DeBoer's best friend, so unfortunately he likely won't be going anywhere. Anyone else would have been fired instantly after that -1/7 debacle against the Rangers
I have had that feeling over the years with VGK. When we were on the PP it was, just don't give one up. Sorry though about you getting DeBoer. His best year is usually his first.
I just hope Dumba gets sent down once he's healthy. The experiment has already failed, he's just a liability. Dallas needs to shore up the blue line and maybe trade for a center to replace Seguin. The only Center that I think could fill that role is Stamkos but idk if he wants to leave NSH, if Dallas would want to take on that contract, or if NSH would want to give him up just to get pieces for the rebuild.
Merry Christmas mate. Before the season began Dallas was the favorite to win the Cup for most of the "experts" Everytime they lose many of their fans say "IF only we had Pavelski" but they never say that after a win. Don't blame the retired guy after a loss. It's on the guys who suited up to win. All you have to do is get into the playoffs and you've got just as much chance as any other team who made it to win the Cup. I begin to have doubts Dallas will make the playoffs. Theyve been known to lose 12 of their last 17 games and miss the playoffs where two of those losses being wins would've seen them in the post-season. They need to fire their power play coach but it's not going to happen because Pete DeBoer loves him. Bourque needs to play with offensively gifted players, like Robertson needed to.. Neither one of them are fit to be a mindless 4th line grinder. When they're hot theyre one of the best teams in the league, but when they're not, they really suck. They can play up for good teams and then get smoked by bottom feeders, like they dont even need to try because its a bottom feeder, but the bottom feeder brings their A game because they're playing a "contender." Its frustrating.
Good video. Stars fan, I completely agree. I'm waiting for it to just kind of click. It still may and they could win ten in a row. The bits are there but as you say, no consistency from night to night
Great video & Merry Christmas! My 2 cents: Robo has been slow to get started likely due to his offseason foot surgery & missing of training camp (hopefully he continues to improve as the season progresses). Wyatt has struggled to score & that has been unexpected. Duchene has been amazing (even with a current mini slump). Harley & Heiskanen have been burdened defensively resulting in less offense from them (D injuries & inconsistent play from other D have increased the reliance on Harley/Heiskanen/Lindell - their minutes are nuts). The trip to Finland was a let down and physically draining + the flu ravaged their recent home stint. Oh yeah, and they lost the red-hot Seguin (who is also a core leader and vibe guy). Lots of adversity for this team early on… maybe we have a sort of “hardening of the steel” situation. It’s a long season!
Crazy how inconsistent they have been playing and yet they are still in a playoff spot at this moment. This upcoming stretch of games are going to be very crucial for the Stars. They must get at least 8 of a possible 10 points in those 5 games to get back into the category of a potential contender. All it takes is for their star players like Robertson and Johnston to get their names into the goals column more consistently the rest of the season which should help the rest of the team with improving their team scoring. Go Stars!!
Dallas is probably going to buy big at the deadline. With Seguin on LTIR that frees up a lot of money. Best outcome for this season is a big splash at the deadline and a new coaching staff. Steve Spott should’ve been ejected from the state of Texas after going -1/7 against New York, but he’s Deboers nepo baby.
Hey, Shannon. Relatively new viewer of, slash, subscriber to your channel. Merry Christmas, and thank you for the consistently entertaining and informative content. One thing I want to point out, though, is that Dallas has only played Tampa once this season thus far. I am not sure whether I am mistaking the way in which you presented that row of games, but to me you seem to indicate that they have played twice. Apologies if I misinterpreted this. Your dedication is remarkable.
Shannon, maybe you can answer this for me. For years Dallas has sought the finesse game. The European style, scoring only, no hitting. It has not gotten them anywhere, because no teams have to look over their shoulder when we play them. Which we did somewhat counteract with our forecheck, but that’s since been lost. But when you do these things, it forces players to make moves before they’re set, causing turnovers and panic. One thing DeBoer brought is a shoot first mentality (which is again on the slide) but it fixed Jamie and Tyler’s game. Yet this season, we finally pick up physical players. (Blackwell, Dumba, Lybushkin, Bishel. Etc) so we paid for a physical team, and yet we don’t utilize them? Why spend money on Dumba and ask him to play a European game? That’s a recipe for disaster! I’m curious your thoughts. Am I wrong? And do you think a slight edge could increase the overall balance of Dallas this season, potentially getting them a cup if warranted
Pete Deboer is not the coach to get you over the hump. The Sharks and Vegas both figured it out, I was so surprised Dallas hired him. He was an okay fit when Pavelski was there tipping pucks, but now the Power Play doesn’t work.
Dallas fan here. The problem for me is what team shows up from game to game. They win against Winnipeg and Tampa but lose to Anaheim and Chicago. They got to get their powerplay going. Where is Robo and Johnston?
I've been a Stars fan since 1993. This has truly been one of the most frustrating seasons that any fan has had to watch. The inconsistency and lack of leadership is glaring. They get outworked by most teams and if it wasn't for Otter & DeSmith, their record would be mediocre at best. Until an actual leader steps up and starts flipping tables, this team is going nowhere fast!!
Their PP is bad to the point I hope for a shorty on their PK. :). Their PP has turned into a Power Kill. Would help if Robo and Johnston would start chipping in. Segs going down hasn’t helped. Yeah, it’s a crap shoot every game which team is going to show up. Glad to see Bichsel up and doing good things.
The Stars' biggest issue right now is their PP. Especially at home. It was an issue in the WCF, last season. If they don't fix this, it'll sink their season. I'm starting to get a little concerned about Deboer and his inability to make adjustments because of his loyalty to certain individuals like one of his assistant coaches.
Coaching is a huge problem like most have mentioned. But the team also doesn't have a real top line atm. Not with those numbers. If a 40 year old was the lynchpin for them, then that's a big problem.
As a Stars fan they really really have been on a downturn since Seguin went down for the year. Nill needs to put him on LTIR and use the cap money to bring in some help. Also wasnt crazy with what they did in the offseason, lost their whole 4th line pretty much and Tanev and made questionable additions to replace them
I came here to see if the subject of Spott would be broached after OP made his "...change behind the bench..." comment. Stats don't lie, so find the weakness in the numbers and address that, and you should see improvement. Seems like a reasonable approach to me.
The fact they lost Tyler Seguin and several players due to illnesses will make it hard for coaches to shuffle the lines and get everyone acclamated again.
Still a lot of season to go but I remember seeing Dallas fans last year who were so excited for Pavelski to retire and Suter to be gone. Any time I told them that those two are hall of fame level players, Benn is going to get older, and Seguin is injury prone, they would laugh because the young players are so good. In reality they’re not. Stankoven had a no expectations role, Johnston was being carried by other players taking attention away from him. Robertson cannot skate, at all. Oettinger is kind of mid as well. Can still turn it around but that team is not as good as they achieved for a few years.
This season already feels like a lost season for the Stars. Their power play (OMG, that power play) has been like an anchor around their necks this season and I just don't know if they can fix it in time, if at all.
Well my beloved Stars will not win after some days off ice. If we r lucky we get 1 win in first 3. Trade Benn just get it done , i dont care how. He can be the best friend off ice and every player loves him. But its time to go.
I have to stop going to games. I was at the Nashville game and the Toronto game. It's never been a more frustrating time to watch them. The guys you paid big money to have fallen off a cliff. Wyatt clearly misses Pavelski. The powerplay is more like a clown show. Nothing has changed Deboer doesn't mix up lines nothing. It's just roll it out there and hopefully tonight something clicks. It feels like they are just going through the motions until playoffs if they get there....and that's a big "IF" right now.
This comment has nothing to do with this video but................................... It's obvious that Utah doesn't want the name 'Yeti', or they would have claimed that name by now. Utah is the Beehive State, so i have been trying to come up with an apian related name. The best I can come up with is SWARM. The Utah Swarm.......... I think it sounds good. ...............
The Stars are a head case this season. I will make a prediction here with the Stars; they make the playoffs but get eliminated in the first round 4-1. This team is one of the worst wastes of talent I have seen in quite some time. How they can look so anemic with the offensive talent that they have is surely puzzling, but when you are 25th on the power play and have given up more short handed goals than you have scored that tells me much of what is wrong with them. I thought that Peter DeBoar was brought in to improve the offense but they are worse now than before he was hired. No team is worried about facing the Stars right now. I know losing Joe Pavelski hurt them, but it should not have been to the point that the offense just dies.
He's been really overplayed, had to start 8 games straight because DeSmith had flu and PDB hates playing 3rd string guys. I refuse to blame him when the team can't score.
Just my armchair opinion, while the powerplay is certainly a big issue, the underlying issue is this team has no grit. Look at tampa, avs, vegas, panthers, those teams all had that "we will not be denied" attitude when they won and I just havent seen that with dallas
Florida fan and you put the impression I have of Dallas perfectly into words. Everyone seemed to think they were a true contender before the season started but I just felt like something was missing. It's the grit that's missing.
I’ve been saying this all yr, they’re soft. Robertson’s a 6’3” finesse player that may be washed, Get in Roope’s grill and he’ll go away quietly. Mav and Stank are still kids. As a season ticket holder, DeBoer/Spot and the power play make me crazy. If I could get a beer all the way down to the ice, I would!
I mean, it was a reasonable comparison for many years. Robo barely lost to him in the Calder race and is a few years younger as well. Then he put up 109 points. It's been downhill since sure, but there was a conversation to be had for a while
"It is Christmas day and yet here I am talking about the Dallas Stars.." Me at every family gathering ever
LITERALLY
Well done! One must have their priorities in order!
My family is all about the Oilers every Christmas lol.
lucky its not the sabres thanks dad
Me but with my Habs and my brothers Jets lol
Should be a crime for the Stars PowerPlay to be so horrendous
I feel the same way about the Avs PP.
Steve Spott is attached to DeBoer, despite being the reason DeBoer keeps getting fired
Pavelski was a liability in the playoffs last year and it was his time, but I never saw anyone talk about how Wyatt's entire training regimen and nutrition plan and sleep schedule were all Pavelski's. 9:16 Bichsel isn’t on the team for his point production. He brings so much more to the blue line than points.
Just for every body to consider, Bichsel pronounces more like „Bik sel“
My hope as a Stars fan is that they’re simply underperforming right now. If their worst hockey is .600 hockey, that’s fine by me.
Yup. Most nights they look pretty rough and yet they're right there. If they can get things rolling the way we know they can I'm not worried. Also Otter has looked great which is a silver lining

Seguin being out really threw the line chemistry off. They usually play well but they just can’t score right now
I feel like their goal scoring has plummeted since Seguin got injured

The Stars are really missing the stabilizing of Joe in the room. He kept the kids encouraged. And those tip-in were game changers.

PP is missing the Heiskanen to Pavelski kind of passes+defects.
Well you have the green. Maybe you need to add the Blackhawks so you'd have red and green.
would more direct play at goal with puck help scoring?

Any time I told them that those two are hall of fame level players, Benn is going to get older, and Seguin is injury prone, they would laugh because the young players are so good.
In reality they’re not. Stankoven had a no expectations role, Johnston was being carried by other players taking attention away from him. Robertson cannot skate, at all. Oettinger is kind of mid as well.
Can still turn it around but that team is not as good as they achieved for a few years.
Pavelski retiring has really hurt the team, they are missing his veteran presence
Well, that’s very concerning considering their captain has been on the team for almost 15 years.
@@smithfan22 I have ZERO faith in Benn
The intro 😅
This season already feels like a lost season for the Stars. Their power play (OMG, that power play) has been like an anchor around their necks this season and I just don't know if they can fix it in time, if at all.
Don't know whether to call you Freud or Grinch?
Fire Steve Spott. Trade for an elite defenseman at the deadline.
And I'm not thrilled with Oettinger either. One night he looks good the next.......OMG.
@@davkatjennHe's still above average, can't blame it on him
He's been really overplayed, had to start 8 games straight because DeSmith had flu and PDB hates playing 3rd string guys. I refuse to blame him when the team can't score.
Keep Pete, get rid of Steve spot
Jets win the Cup.. Stars are cooked 😂
Feels like their window is closing, last year was the best shot at winning the cup
Lol what, their window will be open for the next decade at least.
people always ask why I’m a pessimist when it comes to dallas.
this season is why. (and the last one, and the last one, and the last one, and-)
The Deboer special, warned ya Dallas fans
sorry no way Stars wins.
Textbook DeBoer this guy is just so mid
There's a reason Vegas fired him
Just my armchair opinion, while the powerplay is certainly a big issue, the underlying issue is this team has no grit. Look at tampa, avs, vegas, panthers, those teams all had that "we will not be denied" attitude when they won and I just havent seen that with dallas
@@timdawson6187 they don't hate to lose. Any team with championship aspirations has to hate losing. They just don't
Stars ⭐️
Winnipeg is going to demolish them in rd 1 scp
Looking at what the two have done in playoffs recently, I doubt it.
OCD ALERT: Different logo on hat than jersey… anyone else ocd crazy..? Lol
Awesome video otherwise! Would watch a video like this for all teams!
Mfs really compared “Jason Robertson” to Kirill Kaprizov 😂 I’ll never forget that shit
I mean, it was a reasonable comparison for many years. Robo barely lost to him in the Calder race and is a few years younger as well. Then he put up 109 points. It's been downhill since sure, but there was a conversation to be had for a while
@ Watch both and you know they’re nowhere near one another. Absolute nons 😂
