I grew up on this show and others like it during the 60's like Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, and Green Acres. Call it stupid, call it silly, doesn't matter. It was some of the funniest comedy ever written for TV by fantastic, imaginative writers, performed by the great Ed Platt, Barbara Feldon, and the hilarious often-copied but never-duplicated Don Adams.
This show was great satire…comedy at its best. It was intended to lampoon the James Bond films that came out the same time as Get Smart. I’m sure that the producers and actors of the Bond films enjoyed this show too. The puns and gags are still funny now as back then. When Mel Brooks named this show “Get Smart” did he mean for KAOS to kill Max, or for Max to acquire some intelligence? Mel never made that point clear…Ha ha.
@@midnightcaller200 My brother and I grew up on those. But there's no way any station would show them in the politically correct world that we live in today.
These running gags always cracked me up. This and some of Max's lines like "...and LOVING it" or "I asked you not to tell me that" or the ''Would you believe it" joke.
This show was so funny. There were also the alliterative phrases. Like, "It wasn't Fred. It was Fred's brother Frank. Fred flew to Frankfurt on Friday." I also like Siegfried saying to Starker, "This is KAOS! We don't ________ here!"
I like when Max and Chief were using it. Larrabee was standing outside of it. He could hear everything they were saying. Is a matter of fact when Chief or Max were talking and one couldn't hear the other larabee standing on the outside would tell them what they said.😆
Fun fact from across the Atlantic: 'The cone of silence' is the codename my parents used to covertly discuss buying ice-cream to shut me and my sister up on the way to Cornwall in an Austin 1000 in 1977! Eg: "Waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!" "Get offfffffff!!! etc) Mum: to dad: "How far is the next garage?" Dad to mum: "Good idea... Sign says two miles, two cones of silence it is!" (Cue national anthem on scratched vinyl) 🤫🇬🇧
That was the longest 'cone of silence' bit ever! Usually they would just lower it, complain how they couldn't hear a thing inside, and just raise it again!
@@nickrich56 Rabbit ears on top of the set? I dreamt of having rabiit ears on top of the TV! I was made to take the rabbit ears outside so everyone else could watch.
The cone of silence, that would make me laugh from the moment Max mentioned it until they had to give up using it. Get Smart was probably my all time favorite sitcom. Watching it now, just makes me hope something like this returns to the air, current stuff, makes me come here for the old stuff (or my DVDs).
I miss this show! In one scene a KAOS man dressed as an old lady traversed the stairs of a Brownstone style house and attacked Max. Max got him in a headlock and started to pummel him in the face - whereupon an actual old lady hiked the stairs and saw with horror Max assaulting "an old lady". Without missing a beat - max quipped - "Well - she started it... LOL!!!" Pure Mel Brooks irreverent humor. Dit da dah... dah. dit da dah... dah. ditdadada ditdadada ditdadada dadadada.... (once the theme music is in your head - it's hard to get out)
In a documentary about the show, after production wrapped up the Cone of Silence went missing. No one knows what happened to it. Years later a rumor started floating around that the prop was actually acquired by the CIA and its home is now CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
When this was shown on N@N in the 90s, the scene where the men were moving around in the cone was edited. It’s restored here. It was probably edited by the syndicator or it could’ve been the network.
86 was twice the man that 43 was, Max had a phone installed in his steering wheel, and every time that Max turn the corner, he would dial the operator. and I would ha ve done anything as a kid, to have a shoe phone If you know were to get one let me know, thanks
This show was hysterical!! My dad loved it.
It was The Best !!
My dad loved it too, our family would crack up!
WHAT?

@@davidpage3893 That would be my guess, as KAOS was ALWAYS trying to kill Max.
Me to, the TV shows back then were better than they are now and funnier. I like the old Tarzan shows with Johnny Weismiller

Absolutely, also, Beverly hillbillies, all those were just stupid funny shows just to make yiu laugh.

Some of the best lines right there Kurt! 😁🍿👍
My personal favorite was "missed me by that much," while holding his thumb and forefinger barely apart.

Oh that was so funny! I loved that one!
John Kern-So did his predecessor, Hodgkins.
XD
Larabee had the lowest IQ of anybody on the show!!
Chief had the best end of that deal.
Especially when they changed places.
I love the cone of silence.

This is hilarious. This is how comedy is done
My Grandad and Mum’s favourite show
GET SMART is even funnier than when I watched it as a kid.
Yes, it is Flower.
crazy how it has held up. it’ll be like the marx brothers stuff that held up 100 years on.
Who else had a crush on Agent 99?
The sound the CoS makes when it is lowered always makes me laugh.
Ridiculously funny!!!
Max was a gem!!! 💎
Yes, he was.
I need a Cone of Silence in my life.
If you're a man, then you definitely need one, especially if your wife wants you to do something.
It's called selective deafness........
The Chief would get so annoyed with Max for insisting on using the Cone of Silence! This one is great!
IN ITALIANO LO VIGLIO IN ITALIANO

I was laughing so hard. You know what's gonna happen each and every time, but it's still so funny!
One of my favs. There were so many great sitcoms back then. For decades TV shows have paled by comparison...
Every young guy had a thing for 99. Those were the days!!🤓
I'm so happy. I'm so happy. This is the best day of my life.
taking a break from mandatory corporate cybersecurity training to watch this!
No matter how many times i see this it still makes me laugh
Classic Show! 😂😂😂😂😂
Laughing from start to finish. This is why our generation had it better than todays generation. Smarter all the way around including good comedy.
kek
Chief got the best part of that gag. 99.
This show was entirely predicated on the general belief that government was a force for good, and the chief epitomized this ideal with each moment.
I see now why my Dad loved it so much😂
Get Smart is a classic! Use to watch it as summer reruns... back when we had 4 channels!
Prophetic. It's just like a bloody Zoom so called meeting.
😁😂🤣😅
The hilarious creativity of Buck Henry.
100% genius without any F word , when people used to have commonsense
Best TV show ever, hands down 😅

The cone of silence is now in the Smithsonian vaults 😊
Who doesn't love a Cone
Whenever people have audio issues on Zoom calls I'm reminded fo the cone of silence.
What a pity our enemies never had their own Cone Of Silence & the trouble it brings. 😆
I loved this show as a kid!! (no, I'm not that old, I watched reruns)

Max always insisted on using that thing. It never worked. Even though the joke is we out here could hear everything.
Dane Youssef-In the 1989 movie Get Smart Again, Max has a Cone Of Silence over his bed. As he tells 99, I talk in my sleep. 😄😄😄😄😄😄
Nothing stressed out the Chief more than the Cone of Silence. Classic series with some great comedy writers.
Barbara Feldon was beautiful.

lucky chief :)
Wish I had this version of Get Smart on DVD 💿 😎
I wonder how many viewers were familiar with the expression "cone of silence"--especially the younger viewers.
Barbara Feldon was so tall that she never wore heels in any scene of get smart
Brad James-More than once 99 quipped that she was the only girl with calluses on her ankles. 😆😊😆😆😆😆
Barbara Feldon's eye rolls at Max were so funny..........
This is brilliant...
I wonder if there was a Cone of Silence in the "audio closet" at Mar-a-Lago?
🤣
I remember this being used as a meme when covid 19 first hit the US
Been watching this most of my life and it is still brilliant comedy
