John Lennon Lost Weekend (John Lennon - Los Angeles 1973-1975) Few people have had a more profound influence on 1960's pop culture music than John Lennon. With Paul McCartney, he's one half of arguably the greatest songwriting partnership of all time. With the Beatles, he claimed to be "more popular than Jesus." He was one of the most famous anti-war advocates of his time, and his solo career spawned such time-tested hits that the merest mention of the word "imagine" is likely to make that song play in your head. In the summer of 1973, John Lennon's marriage with Yoko Ono was in trouble. They were reeling from the commercial and critical disappointment of Lennon's Ono-produced Some Time in New York City, and Ono had said that the constant hate their union drew was slowly ruining their careers and her vibes. Ono wanted a break from the whole "she broke up the Beatles" narrative, and she needed one from Lennon, too. Her solution? She set Lennon up with a mistress, and so began what's known as: John Lennon Lost Weekend (John Lennon - Los Angeles 1973-1975) 💥 History Documentaries Channel: (20th Century History Documentaries) 💥 History Documentaries? I’ll never forget that terrible night, well morning for me. My clock radio woke me up to start my day but the news was bad. So bad. It was all about Lennon and I couldn’t believe it. I love my country but we have a problem that I won’t get into here. So I hope he’s making beautiful music wherever he is and want to say thank you John.
I'd just gotten out of the shower in NZ at my parents place. My Mum said "John Lennon has been shot dead in New York..." Seems like only yesterday. Such a terrible loss. RIP John Lennon
Thank You! I have many memories of the Beatles. I was a member of an official Beatles Fan Club branch in New Jersey 🇺🇸 I was 10 or 11 the other girls were teenagers and die-hard Beatlemaniacs. Each month a big box (I later saw a Beatles fan Club "Box" at the Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore) inside the box were what today is known a Beatle Memorabilia; trading cards, pins, photos, etc.
John could have easily have died, the way many other stars passed away. I am a recovering addict-alcoholic and know how crazy it can get. So glad that he was able to survive this side road. Very sad that he was stolen from us! Still miss him badly.
OK so I was 8 in 1980 I'd heard Beatles music my whole life having been raised by hair hippies, but I'd never payed attention. So double fantasy ✨ was being played by my mom over and over. One day my dad and I went a little ways down the road to pay the water bill. I remember hearing it on the radio. Don't know why but I cryed I guess because I saw dad cry a little, not something I seen often. That's when I became fascinated with the Beatles myself. The rest they say...
There was some ancient Greek philosopher who said, "count no man as lucky till you know how his life turned out." And a more recent one who said, "There will be a man picked out as a youth and elevated to the highest position, and he will be counted as the luckiest of men. But in fact, he will prove to be the unluckiest." That one was by the Duke of Marlborough or somebody. The reason I write those here is self-evident.
Great video! 42 years ago today, the sad backing piano i teared up, John definitely influenced my life, his songs and words helped me through my own addictions including a bad heroin addiction. Thanks for the video 👍 What is the piano melody in the background playing? It almost sounds like a slowed down version of the sound of silence
Lots of rare, unseen photos, very cool -- but stories can never capture the wit & wisdom of Dr Winston O'Boogie (John Lennon to those who don't know), let alone the depth of his awakened heart -- and for those below who criticize Yoko you simply do not know John or what they were really about: two souls matched in heaven yet condemned to earth (listen to "You Are Here" from Mind Games). He was my older brother in spirit so his murder was the worst (yet Reagan had lived just a couple months before when shot, argh, not fair karma) -- Walls and Bridges was his best, most enlightened music: #9 Dream says it all , though Mind Games is a close second -- what a pure musical genius and honest soul leading us to the Light where All You Need Is Love, and don't you forget it -- as the man said: "Everybody loves you when you're six foot in the ground" (Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down and Out) -- John Lennon 4ever!
Back when the U.S. Immigration Dept. were trying to have John Lennon & Yoko Ono deported (early 1970's) my mother (who was a super Lennon fan) had me go all around neighborhoods where we lived with an official petition to stop the deportation. I recall walking around for hours with a clipboard, the petition and a pen. People asked why didn't my mother do it? - she was a working single-mom w/little time but she had her co-workers sign it. (Here's the best part of my story)> Recently I saw one of those petitions online! Someone kept it and the official envelope. *Remember what Lennon and Ono said: "All we want is some truth ..."
I've heard rumour that they were at loggerheads during double fantasy, Lennon was murdered on the verge of making up with McCartney, and on the verge of splitting from Yoko so I've heard. I like May Pang. John Lennon's music is amazing. ua-cam.com/video/mftJHFRLQe0/v-deo.htmlsi=SLoGcqmQXygOCQ4Y

And they were very young men and according to all of them, they really didn't want to continue that way. May Pang also says that Yoko set them up and she declined that, but then did take off with Lennon, so...really who cares? I just feel so grateful that there was such a band as the Beatles, and that Lennon was such a brutally honest person, and such a great artist...and mostly such a moving proponent of PEACE. She didn't break up the Beatles but she certainly kept John from reuniting with Paul. She's just generally an unpleasant human being, like when she had members of John's family evicted from their homes that John had bought for them. She tried her best to control John and well, she succeeded. She's still controlling his legacy to this day.
Idiots let other people think for them so Yoko split up The Beatles. How many decades later and still the BS goes on. A woman had to split them up because it couldn't of been them and the time being right to say enough and the end. No it's got to be Yoko did it! Yawn.
