They are doing it in the style of the March Madness tournament, which makes pairings based on ranks (or votes in this case). 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.

What was the point of doing a chocolate bracket when peanut butter flavoured things were an option? obviously that was gonna win. They weren't even judging the chocolate flavour, they were judging the peanut butteryness.
Perhaps having a mixed flavors category instead of allowing them in the chocolate category would've been more accurate.

With any R&L bracket, anything with peanut butter should be its own category (pb vs pb) because, otherwise, it always dominates. If it was its own thing, they could judge whether a straight-up peanut butter ice cream is better than a chocolate and pb ice cream, etc.
The base is still chocolate, and they aren’t determining which ice cream has the most chocolatey flavor. They’re determining which one they like the most

FYI, they weren’t planning ahead for the pandemic, it’s a part of their production schedule and has been for many years. They record *all* their episodes many, many months in advance.
It’ll be interesting when they have to film new videos.
