It actually does not because even just over clocking the switch will give you better results as seen in many videos. If the CPU GPU give the game more to work with it automatically up FPS and resolution the games have what’s called dynamic resolution built into them. There are quite a few games on the Nintendo switch that if you were to just boost them to 60fps the game speed would also increase since it's tied into the CPU and RAM clock speeds. Those games are going to need patches or it's going to need to be in the Switch 2 firmware itself.

So they can and occasionally do let thier more powerful consoles perform, but my example was from a processing speed consideration, not a graphic quality perspective.
Leaks suggest Nintendo will make the dick move of re-releasing Switch games on Switch 2 cartridges and they're the only versions which will run better. Sounds about right for today's Nintendo. Iwata would be spinning in his grave.
Games like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has a 60FPS mode but it's almost useless as the framerate chugs in most levels so I assume that Switch 2 would allow it to run at a locked 60. Otherwise, why would the devs of that game put such a useless mode?
This is really important to me. If I don't have to put up with sub 20FPS in Karikiko Village or when using the Ultrahand in TOTK or the aggressive dynamic resolution in the Xenoblade games would be awesome. Otherwise I'll continue to emulate on PC.
Monolith Soft are an incredibly talented team when it comes to optimisation, so I do trust them to handle excellent next gen upgrades for their premier projects (they are deeply involved in the Zelda games as well as leading Xenoblade, so I suspect they will task the same people to sort all of these games for Switch 2).
Same here. I can forget about the graphics upgrade if I can play the recent Zelda games and Xenoblade properly at 60fps. Totally agree about the Xenoblade which did increase the drawing distance at the cost of everything looking blurry.
While I didn’t have any serious issues with either if those games, getting them to run even better would be reason for me to go back and play. I just started Xenoblade 3 and would pause playing if that was confirmed.

@@Scarftail That would be so cool! Handheld mode would get rebranded as "energy saving mode", while normally it would run dock mode in the handheld mode for Switch games, while Switch 2 games would keep doing what Switch games do now
For some reason, tons of people don’t realize that even the oled switch, isn’t fully backward compatible with Og switch games. such as labo. Games such as that is the reason I believe that’s being mentioned as switch two not being fully compatible.
I don’t want Switch games to look better on Switch 2. All I want is to be able to play games like Breath of the Wild, Echoes of Wisdom, or even Scarlett/Violet without the stuttering and frame drops they are known for. A stable frame rate is so much more important than render distance or texture resolution or anything else.
The stuttering has more to do with the game design, this happens even on emulation using superior hardware. I don’t own a 4080 but a friend does and we cannot get rid of the stuttering on totk
I would have been genuinely shocked if the Switch 2 were not backward compatible. Where Nintendo hasn't sought a major architectural leap, such as the N64, their backward compatibility history is pretty good. The Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U each had a strong continuity of libraries and their growth. The transition from NES to SNES was intended to feature backward compatibility on the SNES. This, along with familiarity to 6502 assembly coders, was the major reason to use the 65816 CPU. The issue killing the support was not technical but the economics of mask ROM as a distribution format, making it undesirable to compete with the mountain of NES carts in the second hand market. The N64 could potentially have had backward compatibility but not without significantly raising the launch MSRP of the hardware, something that has always punished Nintendo when they were not careful about hardware cost of entry. The N64 was a major learning experience for Nintendo but when the time came to move on, the primary hardware partner, Silicon Graphics, had lost much of their mojo as a market leader in graphics and starting from scratch with new partners in IBM and ATI (now part of AMD) was the sensible choice of who had both a strong tech portfolio and great willingness to customize. (The latter was a reason Intel worked out poorly for Microsoft on the original Xbox.) Today, with digital download sales being such a minuscule cost compared to mask ROM era, giving the customer base continued use of their library is a major selling point. Being able to continue selling a ten year old game that has been in profits since shortly after launch is a very enticing feature for the console maker and publishers. For enhancement of old games, Nintendo does tend to be a bit greedy. I wouldn't be surprised if there were many new SKUs that are 90% the same binaries sold on the Switch and for existing owners of the original release a small charge to upgrade. Microsoft has been the most generous in this regard, with Sony falling in between, so I won't be surprised if Nintendo take up the opposite position from Microsoft.
Nintendo has their second best selling console ever with Switch. They’re not trying to screw up the gold mine. Switch 2 is more Switch. Better Switch. More powerful Switch. It will keep their reign on top of console gaming solidified.
Please stop answering the same question over and over again. Can you give an answer to the question if it will update classic third party games like a Bioshock, Witcher 3, Assassins creed collection etc etc?
I mean, the Wii was a goldmine and they screwed up the Wii U. The DS was also a goldmine and the 3DS had a rocky start for the first couple of years that it famously had to have a major price cut just months after launch.
I would appreciate some form of smoothing over the older games, in such a way for example, how the M Classic does it, but it could be done automatically with the Switch 2 hardware. That would at least negate the need for something like an aftermarket scaler to fix the messy blocky edges of Nintendo's legacy game collection. If smoothing makes it improved, then a jump from say 30 fps to 60 fps in boost mode would be an outstanding upgrade for older games that struggle to run at an acceptable pace. No need to push it hard, only need smooth 1080p for a good experience.
The system can run Switch 1 games at double frame rate and higher resolution easily. But devs needs to update the game via simple internal tool but I'm sure that not all will do it.
I think it makes more sense for the bc coverage issue to be related to titles using some obscure, low level switch feature (which maybe has not been perfectly emulated in the new archutecture), vs a joycon issue. For the latter, all they need to do is make joycons compatible with switch 2 (and we know they most likely are). Whichever it is, I do think its gonna be a small amount of games, and probably some of the more obscure ones.
Yeah I just want current games to have more stable gameplay. There isn't any saving Pokemon Scarlet/Violet for instance but at least have them run at 30 FPS throughout the entire game. Same for other games that have varying performance. Future games I'd accept a hand held experience of 1080p30 for heavily detailed environments, or 1080p60 on everything else.
I hope two things will improve for Switch one games: - We will get solid 60FPS in all those titles that fail to achieve that. - Dynamic resolution will not be so aggressive in titles that use it I don't believe there will be many 60 FPS patches for 1st party games. Nintendo would rather release them again for full price.
DF is kind of milking the Switch 2 reveal with these videos but there's a whole lot of nothing in terms of actual info to go off of right now so it feels pointless.
Overclocking switch 1 proves the higher clocks/performance really helps in demanding titles. They literally lose nothing by doing so. The only issue is 60fps totk and similar games need a small patch to run correctly at 60 without speeding up cutscenes. This is a really easy fix.
Most of Nintendo's exclusives already targeted 60fps on the Switch 1. In fact, they've been pretty consistently targeting 60fps in most of their games since the GameCube era.

The unknown status of whether there is any performance upgrade over the first generation Switch, and the probable lack of an OLED screen, are what are keeping me from saying I'm definitely picking the Switch 2 up at launch. If its missing either of these key features, I'm more than likely willing to wait until a mid-gen refresh, or until something really compelling gamewise comes along. Even then, I don't have problems buying the games (physically) and then sitting on them until I get the console at some point in the future if I feel it might be difficult to get a particular title at a later date.
There are a lot of games that I would love to play but I decided to wait for switch 2. If it doesn't give a noticeable improvement to them I'll just emulate them at some point. I would hope nintendo would realize that it would be a huge selling point to show people that their old games can run at higher frame rates and resolution. If they don't want us emulating their games maybe they should think about giving us a better experience than emulation.
I imagine Switch 1 joycons could probably still pair with Switch 2 for some games (hence, not 'fully compatible'). I suspect that the IR sensor falls into that boat too. The only non compatible games I would suspect are like Labo which requires the console itself, in some cases, to be a specific size. Perhaps something like Clubhouse Games isn't fully compatible.
It’s nice knowing that this seems to be the first Nintendo generation shift that won’t see us starting over the drip feed for the retro catalogue. I’m not a fan of the NSO subscription model, but that is at least one benefit. Keep what we have now and keep building up.
If you compare with series x and ps 5 backwards compat not every game gets an fps or rez boost but I think we can at least count on the faster loading times and smoother gameplay due to the updated hardware.
The Wii, which was natively compatible with GameCube games, had a special chip to enter GameCube mode. This chip underclocked the CPU and limited the RAM so the system would behave just like a GameCube. This design was due to piracy concerns, and yep one of the first methods to homebrew the Wii involved using tweezers to bypass the chip. Also the 3ds had to enter ds mode to run older games and yet again enter ds mode had an exploit to hombrew 3ds. Sadly i don't think they are gonna risk it and give full resources to switch 1 games.
I can totally see Nintendo not having performance boosts for Switch games on Switch 2. It’ll probably be like the Wii U, you can play your old Wii games on it but it won’t look or play any better
Thats different. VWii mode in the Wii U is an actual Wii built into the Wii U console that it transitions to. There's no change because it's a Wii console. Not using the specs of Wii U at all
I wish you had talked about the possibility that the Switch 2 plays og Switch games at docked specs but in handheld mode. I think that's an achievable way that they could boost old games
Every Switch game "works" on the Switch 2, but the current joy-con do not work on the Switch 2 so any game and/or feature in a game that required specifically the current joy-con size will not work on the Switch 2. Even though you can still load the game up - so things like Ring Fit Adventure and Nintendo LABO Kits require the current joy-con to work.
At a minimum its gonna play Switch games at higher framerates and resolutions and eliminate load times with no extra work done, essentially what a overclocked Switch 1 allows you to do, but to a greater extend. There are leaks though that Nintendo developed a API that allows Switch 1 games to get next-gen updates for the Switch 2, essentially what Playstation and Xbox are doing.
That's definitely not guaranteed. Especially "eliminating load speeds", that's not gonna happen. Edit: but it would shock me if they didn't at least let totk run at a stable frame rate; that has to be a priority for them. So it seems unlikely that they'd flat out downclock and restrict memory for all legacy titles, unless they require games to "opt in" to use switch 2 hardware fully.
You’re right, I didn’t realize it was possible to overclock a switch. Hopefully Nintendo enables these games to operate more smoothly… my issue is with some games like TOTK for example that have pretty bad frame rate dips when there’s a lot going on. It would be nice just to have a stable 30fps.
@@DanKaschel why not? I’d say the load speeds are the easiest to improve, for example in a PS4 you can get better load times by simply changing to a better hard drive.
@@FerrichromeFor optimal compatibility, they might force the hardware to underclock itself and be as close to the original Switch specs as possible to prevent potential bugs or just for parity reasons.
Nintendo has to make that blanket statement even if one game like Labo wouldn’t work, so it makes sense, and I don’t think we should be worried like Oli and Rich said. Labo, Ring Fit, etc
What I want: - backwards compatibility w/ boost mode for Switch1 games, physical and digital - PS4 level raw performance + DLSS - larger screen and joycons, with Hall Effect controls - OLED panel, even if it’s a 2nd, more expensive SKU - 90hz screen - Bluetooth enabled from the start - WiFi 6/7 - 60fps when in Docked mode, >45fps in handheld (especially for old Switch games), VSync
I hate to say it but I think the best we can expect is less frame drops. I doubt anything will have frame rate caps altered. I doubt we see a boost mode or anything.
Raw Trills needs to make Crusin Blast Ultra for the Switch 2 with upgraded arcade graphics and some extra tracks and cars. Also Nintendo give us a new F-Zero/Pilotwings/Wave Race for gosh sake!!
I think the size is a good thing, the switch had tiny controllers and cramped my hands badly, it also gives a little more room for a larger battery, not to mention that a larger screen is really nice to play on. I have a feeling switch 1 games will run as though they are docked, using the full 1080p of the display and hopefully run with better dynamic resolution scaling and a stable framerate.
I think itll make games like botw, totk, and xenoblade all have their max switch 1 resolution and framerates. I dont think nintendo is gonna go the extra mile and add anything extra tbh. If they do itd probably be a switch 2 rerelease.
its most likely gonna run games to their target framerates and help keep them in the upper part of the DRS. games like bayonetta 3 might run at a locked 60.
At best, I would expect Switch 2 games to run Switch games at native performance but upscaled using DLSS for a resolution boost. I wouldn't expect framerate improvements because Nintendo really likes to lock those down at all costs. I'm hoping for a low power mode to offer good battery life on older titles, at least.
Nintendo handhelds has always maintained backwards compatibility until the DS, DS initially supported GBA cartridges but later models removed the support, but 3DS is backwards compatible with DS again, so I dont know why people think Nintendo wont make Switch 2 BC.
The Switch itself have no backward compatibility with the consoles before it. And honestly, if the form factor and the hardware was not similar to the Switch, the BC would not have been obvious for the Switch 2.
@@jeromenancyfr That's because of the switch from discs to cartridges. Even though the Wii was Nintendo's first home console to have backwards compatibility, they kept supporting the prior system since each system (GameCube, Wii, Wii U) used discs for their consoles. Since the Switch stuck with cartridges (and the Wii U was pretty much a failure financially), it didn't make feasible sense for them to make their system compatible with the Wii U. The other reason is that the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U are all PowerPC-based game consoles. Having the same system architecture would make BC easier overall for them, so that's why the Wii and Wii U supported their prior gen consoles. Nintendo swapping to Tegra ARM for the Switch meant that they would've needed to do extra work to get the few Wii U games that sold to play on Switch (as well as create a disc drive for the system and have it work with the Wii U game pad that wasn't sold separately, which is way too cumbersome). Instead, they just redid their exclusives for Switch and resold them to greater success.
@theonewhowrotethis5681 The 3DS had cartridges, and the Switch is not compatible with it. So, yes , BC is granted except when Nintendo doesn't feel like doing it.
I dont think games will improve the frame rates but my expectation is for the framerates to be more stable. If the fps improve it would mean that developers should all update their games to add that feature. The switch 2 wouldnt do it itself
I think the games that are "not supported" is Labo and "Not fully supported" is like Ring Fit Adventure Maybe you can connect your old Joycon to Switch 2 via bluetooth and play Ring Fit Adventure that way? Just an assumption of mine lol
@mikeuk666 Oh yeah, I forgot about that one Yeah, Probably won't really work unless the Joycon can actually connect to the Switch 2 Unless there are specific games that use the Switch 2 but I'm not entirely sure, I never purchased or played 1 2 Switch
Will cease that adaptive resolution scaling at least. But hopefully will bring something like the Witcher 3 from Switch graphics to PS4 graphics with a big patch.
It will be just a straight switch 1 emulation on switch 2 with no boost mode. As stated below Nintendo will re release old games with 4K 30fps support at full price
Hope fully they bring back light gun type games. Wii was awesome and needed more shooting games. I bought house of the dead for the switch and aiming wasn't good.
imnho: running a game like Botw on this hardware, even without any optimisation from nintendo, would run smoother in areas where framedrops happen, like the lost woods. as those performance issues were due to the hardware not being able to keep up. a newer chipset with same architecture would run this smoothly just because of the higher clocks, memory speed etc. will it automatically boost games that ran 1080p 30fps smoothly up to 4k 60fps with dlss and everything? doubtful if theres no patch to optimise for it, but i think that could be an easy patch for most devs. will nintendo do it for its own back catalog? i think only for main IPs like zelda, mario, etc. the rest will just run as well as they can on beefier hardware without any upscaling or improvements. i expect games like skyrim or witcher 3 maybe do a little update, cause they already do have the code for higher settings from other consoles, would probably cost them next to nothing to have a patch with switch2 optimised settings.
God imagine even if the bigger games like breath of the wild ran at 60fps. Or give like a Xbox and PlayStation option of run it at like 4k dlss or run 1080p 60fps. Or maybe an enhanced update for some games like longer draw distance. Because I could emulate on PC but then I’d have to move my emulation small form factor PC around and that’s not easy (even though it’s smaller than consoles).
My gut is saying Nintendo will ensure all 1st party stuff is 100% compatable. 2nd party will be around 70%. 3rd party 40-50%. Also assume 3rd parties might not patch games for switch 2 as Nintendo might charge huge patch fees...
I hope so, but I don't know from any of the specs leaks as to what kind of WiFi tech we are working with. That being said, Square did say they were prospectively interested in native ports (I believe the cloud thing was budget related not power related) so better support isn't that unlikely.
@ that does give me a small ray of hope then, do you know where you heard about the interest in native ports? I missed that along the way to the games coming to switch.
Why people thinking Nintendo switch 2 will have improve backwards compatibility like stable fps and faster load times, Nintendo has never done previously like that why will it now, yes it has done backwards compatibility but game ran same as before
Nintendo needs to shift the focus towards being able to play their own first party games at a reasonable framerate. It’s completely unacceptable to have their headline games like legend of Zelda and Pokémon running at 20 frames per second.
I'm sure certain Switch titles will be patched to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. Zelda at 60fps would be nice. Also, Minecraft will likely receive a performance patch as that game hasn't run very well since a few updates ago.
I love when some Clowns in the comments section refer to the Switch as a "Console" when clearly both Switch 1 & 2 have mobile hardware which is designed specifically for handhelds, but sure call it a console and live out your delusions to the fullest! Thats like calling the psVita a console because you can play it on your tv. 😂
Give Nintendo credit. They could have ignored the entire switch 1 games and made them digital, but they want you to be able to buy switch 1 games as well.
As much I as I would want the play the older games at +60fps. I would accept them playing at a stable 30fps. I never really touched my switch because the games would dip below 30fps and would feel horrible to play.
2:14 so GC games did not run better on Wii, and Wii games did not run better on WiiU, BUT GameBoy games did have improvement on GBColor and SuperGB, no? No idea on GBA on DS, or DS on 3DS but these would be interesting experiments/comparisons.
I just hope Nintendo is going to provide upgrade patches bumping up res and/or framerate (just like Sony did it with PS4 to PS5 updates or even better: XBOX Smart Delivery). I might accept paying $10 for those upgrades, but knowing Nintendo we might be stuck with the Switch 1 vanilla versions - so they can charge us full price for BotW/TotK, Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, etc. Remasters again 😓
Who says Switch 2 games will come on cartridge? I mean, it probably will. But the presence of the slot could also only be for the backward compatibility. From the reveal trailer, nothing is certain.
Nintendo has already stated to investors that they would not change the way they are distributing games on the Switch Successor. That was roughly 6 month agp.
They did something out of the normal here how can we say they won't run faster or better. Also the original ly games i see not being fully back compatible would have to be only a few games such as labo and the fit .

Leaks suggest Nintendo will make the dick move of re-releasing Switch games on Switch 2 cartridges and they're the only versions which will run better. Sounds about right for today's Nintendo. Iwata would be spinning in his grave.
@@Craigy2818 Show me the source
Games like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has a 60FPS mode but it's almost useless as the framerate chugs in most levels so I assume that Switch 2 would allow it to run at a locked 60. Otherwise, why would the devs of that game put such a useless mode?
4:00 the single most important change everyone should be curious about the switch 2😉
I'm excited to see what Nintendo will create with the new hardware. Will be a glorious generation.
@@Tacoking8891 hopefully they will do like CD Projekt Red that releases next gen updates free to people who already own the game and won’t make us pay extra like Sony does with upgrading next gen updates of old games.
@@Tacoking8891Xenonlade 2 looks disgusting at times in handheld. I hear 3 holds up better
Considering the leaked motherboard doesn’t even have a Tegra X1, it would be a HUGE missed opportunity if Switch games didn’t run at their highest possible resolutions and framerates. They could even run the games in TV mode on that 1080p screen.
If games run at dynamic resolution and are not locked in framerate then the Switch 2 will run those games at a higher native resolution and framerate.
@@Scarftail That would be so cool!
Handheld mode would get rebranded as "energy saving mode", while normally it would run dock mode in the handheld mode for Switch games, while Switch 2 games would keep doing what Switch games do now
Switch 2 already enough for my coming 7 years of gaming because I only gaming in handheld. So I no need 4K, no need 120 - 240fps.
For some reason, tons of people don’t realize that even the oled switch, isn’t fully backward compatible with Og switch games. such as labo. Games such as that is the reason I believe that’s being mentioned as switch two not being fully compatible.
Isn’t the switch lite is the one that had compatibility issues.
@ both, but more so switch lite.
Olie is so professional with all the facts and a clear explanation.
'I don't want Switch games to look better on Switch 2...all I want is for Switch games to look and run better on Switch 2!'
The stuttering has more to do with the game design, this happens even on emulation using superior hardware. I don’t own a 4080 but a friend does and we cannot get rid of the stuttering on totk
Why not have both via tweaking settings.
@kevinbuchanan67 he wants better frame rate and non stuttering how did you confuse that with graphics ? Idiot.
Explain how having less stuttering does not look better
Backwards compatibility is a must these days.
(The latter was a reason Intel worked out poorly for Microsoft on the original Xbox.)
Today, with digital download sales being such a minuscule cost compared to mask ROM era, giving the customer base continued use of their library is a major selling point.
All i wanted was bigger, 60fps and backwards compatibility, thats enough for me.
But are the puddles reflective?
@@BleakVisionI don’t think Nintendo cares 😂
..and also more drifty joycons..
I mean, the Wii was a goldmine and they screwed up the Wii U. The DS was also a goldmine and the 3DS had a rocky start for the first couple of years that it famously had to have a major price cut just months after launch.
tldr: we don't know
Saved me 8 minutes of my life, thank you.
I downvoted video and am leaving now
SHOCKING: three youtubers cannot predict the future
Only if it has blast processing
I hope two things will improve for Switch one games:
- We will get solid 60FPS in all those titles that fail to achieve that.
- Dynamic resolution will not be so aggressive in titles that use it
I don't believe there will be many 60 FPS patches for 1st party games. Nintendo would rather release them again for full price.
Nintendo could knock it out the park with Download Play!
These exclusives should be running 60fps as the standard.
Go run your own company then
Most of Nintendo's exclusives already targeted 60fps on the Switch 1. In fact, they've been pretty consistently targeting 60fps in most of their games since the GameCube era.
@@jyllianrainbow7371 Except towards the latter portion of the Switch's life, 1st party games like Link's Awakening and Kirby & the Forgotten Land that run on 30 fps became the norm.
@@jyllianrainbow7371 You're on the wrong channel if you wanna lie to people about performance on the switch... All people have to do is point to a digital foundry video on a 1st party game.

I kean, it's obviously gonna be more powerful. Leaks show as much too
There are a lot of games that I would love to play but I decided to wait for switch 2.
I heard all of Nintendo's Switch 1 games will run at native 4K 60fps on the Switch 2, even in handheld mode.
Games with dynamic resolution should see a benifit in hitting the resolution cap more consistently.
Thats different. VWii mode in the Wii U is an actual Wii built into the Wii U console that it transitions to. There's no change because it's a Wii console. Not using the specs of Wii U at all
Probably a boost mode that would apply to all or most games is to tell the software that it's in Docked mode even when it's in hand held mode.
I wish you had talked about the possibility that the Switch 2 plays og Switch games at docked specs but in handheld mode. I think that's an achievable way that they could boost old games
I'm thinking the whole thing about some games not being fully compatible is mainly about the IR camera.
Will it be able to run the graphics heavy powerhouse that is Pokemon Scarlet/Violet?
That's 100% not gonna happen.
Games will need a patch. Then, the games won't load faster
Nintendo has to make that blanket statement even if one game like Labo wouldn’t work, so it makes sense, and I don’t think we should be worried like Oli and Rich said. Labo, Ring Fit, etc
I wanna see breath of the wild with vast draw distances, 60fps and some kind of TAA. Definitely possible.
What I want:
- backwards compatibility w/ boost mode for Switch1 games, physical and digital
- PS4 level raw performance + DLSS
- larger screen and joycons, with Hall Effect controls
- OLED panel, even if it’s a 2nd, more expensive SKU
- 90hz screen
- Bluetooth enabled from the start
- WiFi 6/7
- 60fps when in Docked mode, >45fps in handheld (especially for old Switch games), VSync
If TOTK doesn't run better than the original Switch then I won't be buying a Switch 2.
1080p 60fps with draw distance maxed out minimum
Sure, keep dreaming
Exclusive games, but whatever. It’s up to you.
It will after you buy it again.
@@ahrlj24 Happy to if that's the result. Most games I wouldn't, but TOTK is my favorite game of all time and it's not even close.
I submit to you NieR Automata. Specifically the return segment of the flooded city back to the “main” hub area, it chugs so hard in there
I hate to say it but I think the best we can expect is less frame drops. I doubt anything will have frame rate caps altered. I doubt we see a boost mode or anything.
Nintendo has that proprietary DLSS patent. I wonder if there will be a proprietary frame gen as well.
Does the video answer the question or waste time asking what we all want to know?
Amazing video, thank you Digital Foundry.
I think itll make games like botw, totk, and xenoblade all have their max switch 1 resolution and framerates. I dont think nintendo is gonna go the extra mile and add anything extra tbh. If they do itd probably be a switch 2 rerelease.
Given how popular the Switch is, I'm pretty sure Nintendo is going to be careful about these things. They don't want to disappoint Switch gamers.
its most likely gonna run games to their target framerates and help keep them in the upper part of the DRS.
games like bayonetta 3 might run at a locked 60.
Wonder if we will get a switch 2 lite in the future as well for an all in one unit.
switch 2 will be my first Nintendo purchase since the n64
Hopefully,Resident evil 0 will run naturally faster as it is plagued by loading times on switch 1
I would just like it powerful enough to get triple A’s on release days. New doom would be unreal
I think the games that are "not supported" is Labo and "Not fully supported" is like Ring Fit Adventure
Maybe you can connect your old Joycon to Switch 2 via bluetooth and play Ring Fit Adventure that way? Just an assumption of mine lol
1/2 switch with ir sensor
@mikeuk666
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one
Yeah, Probably won't really work unless the Joycon can actually connect to the Switch 2
Unless there are specific games that use the Switch 2 but I'm not entirely sure, I never purchased or played 1 2 Switch
THAT DLSS PATENT? ... could It be a in hardware solution so no code update needed?
imnho: running a game like Botw on this hardware, even without any optimisation from nintendo, would run smoother in areas where framedrops happen, like the lost woods. as those performance issues were due to the hardware not being able to keep up. a newer chipset with same architecture would run this smoothly just because of the higher clocks, memory speed etc. will it automatically boost games that ran 1080p 30fps smoothly up to 4k 60fps with dlss and everything? doubtful if theres no patch to optimise for it, but i think that could be an easy patch for most devs. will nintendo do it for its own back catalog? i think only for main IPs like zelda, mario, etc. the rest will just run as well as they can on beefier hardware without any upscaling or improvements. i expect games like skyrim or witcher 3 maybe do a little update, cause they already do have the code for higher settings from other consoles, would probably cost them next to nothing to have a patch with switch2 optimised settings.
About the size of the PS Portal it looks like screen wise. A perfect size IMO.
Why do nintendo shy away from using more/most of their clock speed?
battery life I guess
Battery life, fan noise, heat management for longer lifespan.

My gut is saying Nintendo will ensure all 1st party stuff is 100% compatable. 2nd party will be around 70%. 3rd party 40-50%.
Also assume 3rd parties might not patch games for switch 2 as Nintendo might charge huge patch fees...
Do we think the WiFi will be a big enough improvement for the games like Kingdom Hearts that only got streaming ports on the Switch?
Honestly it didn't seem worth it to me to use it hooked up via Ethernet, and I really wouldn't be surprised to see them shutter those services.
It would be amazing if they released updated versions that run locally. Even a port of the PS3 level versions would be amazing and totally possible.
The Wifi chip in the original Switch is known to suck and be unstable. It’s safe to assume the Switch 2 will have a newer better chip.
It will probably run the Switch 1 games in docked mode while Switch 2 is in handheld mode.
Why people thinking Nintendo switch 2 will have improve backwards compatibility like stable fps and faster load times, Nintendo has never done previously like that why will it now, yes it has done backwards compatibility but game ran same as before
what about load times? that's what I'm curious about.
Also, Minecraft will likely receive a performance patch as that game hasn't run very well since a few updates ago.
vSwitch like vWii on WiiU 😄
I love when some Clowns in the comments section refer to the Switch as a "Console" when clearly both Switch 1 & 2 have mobile hardware which is designed specifically for handhelds, but sure call it a console and live out your delusions to the fullest! Thats like calling the psVita a console because you can play it on your tv. 😂
Give Nintendo credit. They could have ignored the entire switch 1 games and made them digital, but they want you to be able to buy switch 1 games as well.
They are digital. What are you talking about?
As much I as I would want the play the older games at +60fps. I would accept them playing at a stable 30fps. I never really touched my switch because the games would dip below 30fps and would feel horrible to play.
2:14 so GC games did not run better on Wii, and Wii games did not run better on WiiU, BUT GameBoy games did have improvement on GBColor and SuperGB, no? No idea on GBA on DS, or DS on 3DS but these would be interesting experiments/comparisons.
At the very least, you would hope games that don’t quite hit 30fps will on the new machine
I'm just here for Astral Chain, Bayonetta 3, and TOTK at locked 60 fps
I just hope Nintendo is going to provide upgrade patches bumping up res and/or framerate (just like Sony did it with PS4 to PS5 updates or even better: XBOX Smart Delivery). I might accept paying $10 for those upgrades, but knowing Nintendo we might be stuck with the Switch 1 vanilla versions - so they can charge us full price for BotW/TotK, Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, etc. Remasters again 😓
would it fix the switch (1) bad resulotion of some games like xenoblade chronicles 2?
Who says Switch 2 games will come on cartridge? I mean, it probably will. But the presence of the slot could also only be for the backward compatibility. From the reveal trailer, nothing is certain.
Pretty sure Nintendo knows removing physical games would be a death-sentence.
Nintendo has already stated to investors that they would not change the way they are distributing games on the Switch Successor. That was roughly 6 month agp.
If PS5 backwards compatibility is anything go by, Switch 1 games wont get any boost whatsoever unless you buy a special remaster.
i would be happy when the games that target 30 fps 1080p, looking at you Fire Emblem: The Tree Houses would run with out stutters..
I hope some of the games that where unplayable on switch 1 will run faster on switch 2 with less lag like witcher 3 and arkham knight
They did something out of the normal here how can we say they won't run faster or better. Also the original ly games i see not being fully back compatible would have to be only a few games such as labo and the fit .
