I was wondering something: if the corn field npc (or as i call him corn man) was born from a corn cob landing/making contact with infecting light and now acts as a smiling, if other objects were thrown onto infecting light, would they become a smiling as well?
I have a theory… An Infectious Smile Theory! This is specifically a weapon theory questioning its origins so hear me out: When the infection started, just like in the game you start off with the bat because it’s easy to use, transport, and have and plus these wooden bats were easy to make but are also not really the best weapons against smilers. The knife was used around this time because almost everyone had and needs a knife and when the bat was becoming noticeably obsolete, they could’ve started crafting the first spears using sticks and knives. Now the story of the firearms is pretty easy because I think they were just being shipped place to place around the world and this could mean that maybe there’s more than one mountain survivors live in. Next is the katana, the katana inventory description says “Dollar Store Katana” meaning it wasn’t made for quality but was made for quantity since a good quality katana would be way more expensive, durable, and sharp. This may also mean that 1,000 smile coins is equal to 1 USD. The branch probably came out as an idea because none of others really were that strong so they were like “hey let’s chop this one big branch off and use it as a weapon” this probably came after this bat or katana. Next is packed ice which probably came from any map containing ice and well they were like “let’s use this 50 lb hunk of ice!”. The rake probably was needed in the first fall/spring during the infection where they desperately needed rakes to get rid of the leaves on the ground and to kill smilers as it was surprisingly effective. Lastly I think chain was first or last because they were probably locking up someplace or somewhere with chains but the smiles break through anyway and chains with rusted locks are left the rust also means the chain is the last weapon used by the survivors and was probably rare because of the price (3850 smile coins or possibly $3.85 based on katana being worth a dollar).
