Marshall was like a black swan event.. nobody had a clue what was coming and when he did there wasn’t a force strong enough to stop / cancel him. Not only did he not back down, he continued to taunt / troll those who opposed him and started making tracks 10x worse than the tracks that caught their attention to begin with. It was amazing to watch / experience.

Cancel culture and what Eminem had going on were two very difficult things. The gov was trying to censor his freedom of speech. "Cancel culture" is the public boycotting someone for doing something they don't like. What Em went through is something very different.
Eminem became his brother’s (Nathan) guardian as soon as he got signed. State took him away from their mom. He adopted Kim’s twin sister’s daughter (the other little girl in Mockingbird w/ Hailie) and child Kim had with another guy. He watched Hailie become Homecoming queen from room in school bc he didn’t want attention on him. His kids are the reason after the first few albums he rarely does concerts and doesn’t tour. 50 said he turned down 8 mil to do World Cup in 2022.

I'm not even a huge Em fan but damn I connect with this song due to a similar upbringing. You might be right about woman finding it harder to forgive cause I've struggled with that for sure 😅 I'm glad Em made peace with it. Maybe it gets easier the older you get 🤷♀️

I used to think he exaggerated in this song but i watched a deep dive documentary once and they had all the receipts about everything he mentioned.
Just so you know, his mom purposely fed him pills, like Xanax and other drugs when he was little. No bs, it’s just a fact. He has a song called “my mom” and he digs into that aspect on the song
Em's a good man considering how shitty his childhood was.....he even adopted his younger brother Nathan to get him away from their abusive mother. Poured cleaning products in his food to make him sick to get pills for herself. When he got famous, she tried to sue him for millions for singing about her - didn't win thankfully. And she also recorded a 'diss track' about him.
I believe whilst he & his mother still aren't close that he has forgiven her. (listen to 'Headlights' as other have commented)

That beat goes stupid hard! Top 3 of his songs. When I was like 11 this song was #1 for MONTHS. Maybe even all year.
This song is one of many personal tracks that separate Marshall from other MC’s. His crazy / over the top tracks draw the attention of many but It’s these types of tracks that really strengthen his connection with his fanbase. Marshall has put practically everything on the table for everyone to hear (in various songs); something most rappers would never do because they believe it will make people think they are soft. This is also key why it’s hard to diss him, if you know his catalogue, anything negative is likely something Marshall has already said / disclosed about himself several times over.
