You are crazy and cool and funny and real. Thanks for living your best life, and for sharing it with us. Now I'm going back to E66. I'll watch this one as soon as that's over. Hugs!

I have a sweet grass basket that I've had for years. I store my makeup in it. I bought it from a stall at the side of the road on a trip I took to South Carolina back in the day. It's got a label inside telling who made it. Can't figure out how to attach a pic. You can look at it next time you're home. ❤

You took me back to my high school art class also ...but mine was in the early1970's! I remember the one I made was in a rust color and then I decorated the outside and lid with feathers. It was really nice but is long gone now or I would post a picture. To make the lid you make a separate piece started just like the beginning of the basket, make it to the size to fit your basket and end it normally. Then, so the lid stays on the basket, you make a last coil about 1/2 inch or so inside the bottom of the lid that acts like a lip to hold it in place. The feathers were easy to add, just cut the quills to the length you need, dip them in a little clear drying glue and insert between the coils. You can also add beads or charms too. Thanks for the memories!

That's awesome! I've never done a lid before, but it would be easy👍

Thank you so much for this very fun and informative tutorial. I am excited to use up some scrap yarn in a project I think I will actually finish. I made a tiny pine needle basket in a workshop with Shuswap elders when I was working at Child and Youth Mental Health Services in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada, as part of cultural awareness training. It was a very similar process so I found the journal entry that you read very touching, as it points to the universality of basket making for cultures all over the world and we can be part of it too. 💕🇨🇦

This was just the best!! Thanks so much for the tutorial and the history lesson. I have sweet grass growing in my garden for ceremonial purposes so maybe I will try it, but I think it will be much like sock knitting with fingering weight yarn so I will have to think about the core. I know this wrapping method is also used to make beaded lanyards and keychains and we use hollow rubber tubing for the core to keep them lightweight. So. Many. Options!! Baskets for everyone this Christmas!!

hiya sweetie! i'm ambidextrous too! do more tutorials. youre good at it. im guessing that if you want an oval basket you would make a longer first loop? really like the multi/white ones you have. great history info! thanks for sharing xoxo
