I acquired a used HP Office Jet All-in-One 6978 from a friend. He forgot the EWS Admin password he set. I tried the Semi-reset option, Network Default Reset option and did a Factory Reset as well. The reason this method does not work is when i click the Setting option, i am prompted to enter the Existing Admin password to even access the General Setting feature. The problem is, all EWS options are locked down and needs the Existing EWS Admin Password. Which i do not have.

I just received my new Ink Tank 415 printer two days ago and when i tried to set a custom EWS password (for an improved security) the settings got immediately locked down and now i can´t access or change any of them since then... I must strongly remark that the printer memory just corrupted the password i set, because i´m pretty sure what password i typed because i typed it letter by letter, also typed it twice because of the confirmation request and i wrote it down, so there are zero chances that i just forgot or mispelled the password, so again, there is no doubt the printer just corrupted the phrase, so now i can´t figure out which is the random pass the printed assigned. I have searched intensely for a solution around all the web, forums, social networks, hp solutions, hp software tools, and i have found the only working "solution" would be to perform a full hard reset from the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" software tool, which is the only way to reset the printer memory and thus resetting the EWS password, the issue with that potential "solution" is... that with every attemp to perform a full reset the printer ask for the EWS (corrupted) password... so now i´m stuck into a deficient programing loop with my two-day new super printer...

mu EWS page is completly different, it doesn't have a login option and there is no menu at the top of the page where the general and network and all that actions are, its a useless page where i have to fill out user name and password to access all the options i click, it says its locked by the administrator and i just can't find the password, i don't have the users manual anymore, how can i accéselos those features if i can't even login? i bought this printer in 2017 and its excellent but its i changed my routers password and it was a mess to link it back to print, any comments HP support? how can i retrieve that username and password or those functions are not for this kind of home usage?

If you set a such, the user name would be admin (all lower case) along with your selected password, try any combination of admin with a password you may select, if you cannot find what password was set a printer reset is the only option to remove it.

@@HPSupport The instructions says to consult the previous administrator if there isn't a label on the back, but that is impossible if the previous administrator has left or your company is so large that it could be any number of administrators. Is there any other way to reset it?
Printer Hp officejet 8020 can not connect to the web server, I called hp many times, after giving information about the problem, they said that I will be transferred to a hp support, after that they hang up 🤬, called again, the same thing, asked about the problem, I gave my case number, they will transfer to a hp support, and again,,, get disconnected. @@HPSupport since HP can not resolve the issue that everyone is having.I believe that a class action lawsuit will be the solution.I believe that you guys do not value your customers and that you have purposely made it so once the printer updates there is no way of getting into the embedded web server leaving your customers with no choice but to invest into a new printer.I believe that the update you guys do to the software purposely locks everyone out so they have no choice in the matter.Reseting a printer has nothing to do with the ip addresses administrative rights.You guys have control over this.You have cost thousands of people jobs due to this faulty issue causing them to not be able to build the rapports needed for there jobs and so fourth and I believe that your plan from the beginning was to make sure that these devices were faulty and you have offered no solution “time and time” again.

+Vineet More Please find the steps to restore network defaults on the printer from the user guide link: hp.care/2ueA6jW and visit page 71 first to restore network defaults on the printer.
Then check pages 65 to 75 on how to setup or use the printer on a wireless network. This should do the trick for you.

+RC 3d Restore the network settings to default settings to reset the EWS page password:
Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
Once it is done set a new password for EWS page, follow the below steps:
Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.
Keep the username default as admin.
Type the New Password and Verify Password.
Navigate to the bottom of the page and click Apply.
Use these credentials the next time you Log In to the EWS.

@@HPSupport The instructions says to consult the previous administrator if there isn't a label on the back, but that is impossible if the previous administrator has left or your company is so large that it could be any number of administrators. Is there any other way to reset it?
Printer Hp officejet 8020 can not connect to the web server, I called hp many times, after giving information about the problem, they said that I will be transferred to a hp support, after that they hang up 🤬, called again, the same thing, asked about the problem, I gave my case number, they will transfer to a hp support, and again,,, get disconnected. No more hp for me, I just bought a new hp printer, which I am going to return.

With previous firmware versions, the default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank
With the latest printer firmware, the default username remains admin (all lower case), but the password is the WPS PIN Number.
To locate the WPS PIN Number, print a Network Configuration Report and locate the PIN Number within the WPS Information section.

@@HPSupport since HP can not resolve the issue that everyone is having.I believe that a class action lawsuit will be the solution.I believe that you guys do not value your customers and that you have purposely made it so once the printer updates there is no way of getting into the embedded web server leaving your customers with no choice but to invest into a new printer.I believe that the update you guys do to the software purposely locks everyone out so they have no choice in the matter.Reseting a printer has nothing to do with the ip addresses administrative rights.You guys have control over this.You have cost thousands of people jobs due to this faulty issue causing them to not be able to build the rapports needed for there jobs and so fourth and I believe that your plan from the beginning was to make sure that these devices were faulty and you have offered no solution “time and time” again.
