Best movie I seen when I was a young boy, taking my grandpa white hard hat to be a soldier and my grandma making me a Zulu shield. 40 yrs old and I still watching the movie. Love it always ❤
The Zulus greatly respected bravery, they too were warriors and understood that facing a foe much larger than you and not giving up takes a lot of courage.
Here's a translation guys: I will try my best to put it in good English. ''Oh lord it is a pity that we have to spill blood, please forgive us lord (they are asking for forgiveness in advance), We have no choice lord, we have to protect our land, we have to fight for our sons and daughters'' That's just a summary.

Just finished watching the movie. Not sure everything is accurate but it’s clear whoever directed this film respected the Zulu tribe and tried his best to encapsulate their spirit and bravery. I also like to think in real life the British who are famously arrogant, found some new respect for the Zulu after this ordeal. It’s a beautiful and powerful harmony, to finish off a true cinematic masterpiece.
I think you will find Stanley Baker had a huge involvement in the making of this movie and in my opinion was probably one of the greatest action films of all time.
I grew up with Zulus, I was nursed till 7 by a Zulu Family. I was taught the language, culture, and traditions. Zulus are the ultimate warriors. They even say "grace"for what they are about to kill . Not many of you would have been in a Zulu Chant...the power is off the chart..you will literally s**t yourself if it is directed at you.

You mentioned that they "hire" a slave, meaning that you acknowledge the so called "slaves" are being paid for their work. That is not slavery, but employment. Everyone needs to make money to buy food and water. Everyone has a choice to where they want to be employed.
This is the second song. the first song is one of aggression and revelling in the shaughter to come, and is a song of arrogance and pride. This second song is a song of regret, that such adversaries, who have proven themselves worthy, mst die, and that it will take many casualties on the Zulu side to accomplish the victory. The third and last song is a song of honor and a salute to an enemy that has proven himself so brave, and so strong, that it would be not only a great shame to wipe out such men, but that casualties necessary to do so would not be worth the result, and so this adversary is to be left in peace and great honor, as great as that of any Zulu.
Thanks for the information. I think your version of the events has more of the ring of truth about it. To this day there are people who think the British were in India to "build infrastructure"! Yeah they were, but only to haul their swag to the harbor to sell it to some other market they had penetrated, probably by force of arms. Your line about forgetting is particularly scary. I'm certain the Chinese have not forgotten the western warships steaming up the river bombarding Chinese towns so they would be good boys.

The singing's great, taken from Chief Buthelezi's mother. Buthelezi was Zulu Chief when the movie was made, he played his ancestor Cetchwayo. His mother turned Cy Enfield on to the Zulu music he and Stanley Baker were looking for. I like the girls' singing during the marriage ceremony. That's just personal taste.

A horrible moment with so much death but a connection between song breaks the border embrace all
@slideharp1 Britain was VERY MUCH part of the scramble, albeit a VERY unwilling one. I just finished reading "The Scramble for Africa: 1876-1912" by Thomas Pakenham. I'd read his book on the Boer War and wanted to look at this one. My head is still spinning. 36 years of history shouldn't be this confusing, but with dozens of European countries with 100s of actors, I felt like I needed a score card to keep the players straight. Especially those like Stanley, who kept changing sides...
Zulu men that died for me id like to say I aim to return to the planet to do gods work which is evil
