I was 20. Watching the Word. Seeing Primal Scream playing this and hearing it for the first time was one hell of an amazing buzz. I hadn't heard that the female backing vocalist had passed away. She ripped it up on this track. May she rip it up in heaven.
Damn 50s curse! So many of our black artists have fallen victim to this over the last 20 years: Michael Jackson, Prince, Luther Vandross, Barry White, Valerie Jones, Michael Clarke Duncan, and now Denise Johnson☹️. All taken from us far too soon.
Fucking brilliant. What I wouldn't have given to have had shows like this here in the U.S., especially back in the 90's! The Scream were never as big as they deserved to be here, but I've been a fan for 26 years. Those of us here who get it, really GET IT.
@@la-grave Not a boomer, but nice try. BTW, the members of Primal Scream actually are boomers, so that's a pretty ignorant thing to try and use as an insult.
It amalgamated the 1960s and the Madchester (aka Baggy) scene. Bobby was heavily influenced by post-punk, but he drew heavily from bands like The Rolling Stones, Mott the Hoople, The Byrds, and The Velvet Underground. On top of that, they were influenced by many experimental bands, such as Amon Duul II and Nico’s Marble Index.
These guys wouldn't even get signed to a major label today, they might be lucky to get on a bigger indie label. And I guess with the state of today's major labels that is a compliment.
i'm old (i was 17 when this was on), but are there tv shows like this anymore, with live music.. there are some great bands around at the moment, guess youtube is the platform. tjhey use.. the word was hilarious tho in terms of chaotic tv.
Old? I was 31 when this was on (if it was '91). You're just a baby! But yeh, it was a great programme albeit haters loved to hate it. I still think there's a market for another chaotic, but funny show with live music. You just have to find the right presenters and not worry too much about what the critics think.
There really isn't. For new bands coming through there really isn't anywhere to showcase their music other than social media I think. It's a shame, feel like something is lost. In the 90's we had loads of shows featuring decent music now other than Later, which has become an old farts show, I can't think of anything in UK.
31 years ago, it seems like yesterday. The Word, the finest Friday late night tv show ever.

RIP Denise Johnson! ♡
Grove St. Home. At least it was before I fucked everything up.
I thought he was saying about cj girlfriend Denise LOL (because cj is Carl Johnson)
2004 forever baby
Bloody hell 32 years later - Throb, Denise, Duffy all gone. Life sure is fleeting...
RIP, Denise Johnson. A lovely lady, and an amazing talent!

RIP Denise Johnson, a force of nature that gave The Scream energy during this era ❤️🙏🏻🌈
Had a lot of fun dancing on the show, nice to have the videos to remember, so many old faces from the Brighton and London crew. Much love
Fucking brilliant.

I saw this tour - in America - in 1991-ish. Bobby was in a silver lame jumpsuit. It was transcendant.
Denise is magnificent here. So sad she’s gone.
Anyone Who Misses CJ ?
He dead ?
Love 'The Word'. BTW, I worked with dummer Toby's brother Ray for many years in the MoD...a very interesting man too!
Esta canción siempre me emocionada cuando iba manejando o piloteando un avión en GTA San Andreas y había un atardecer en el cielo
Muy buenos tiempos amigo

Classic! And the Bassist, who carried the entire song, as usual, gets Nothing - s‘all about the lead - big up Bass Player❤
That freakin' solo man...
These guys brought the 60's back in the 90's.
With a dose of acid house.

Sounds as good as the studio version...brilliant. Not a lot of singers can repeat their studio songs
Era defining tune...classic
This episode had Primal Scream and Public Enemy both perform live - let that sink in...
Now that’s quality, it’s like a 60s tv show with the stones and the temptations.........
normal
RIP Denise Johnston, true singers 💔
A special band, a special time.
Disappointed to now find out Gillespie & Innes are a pair of heartless, hypocritical cunts. RIP Duffy.
Takes me back. The lady has a great voice / presence.
Everything about this is amazing
R I P Rob Young
RIP Denise. You made this into more than a little Stonesy pastiche.
Just saw PS in Toronto in Nov 2016. First time seeing them. I was very happy with the show!
I remember this I was 8 and should have been asleep
This is more Stones than the Stones themselves.
This is more Primal Scream than Primal Scream themselves.
It's something like Gimme Shelter and Sympathy For The Devil!
The thing is in the early 90's people started to appreciate middle 60's, in music, fashion etc...
😂They fuckin wish😂
Brilliant comment
This band was simultaneously way ahead of and way behind their time.
Excellent observation
The Word! Great tv programme.
FFS Can we please have shows like this and TFI Friday etc back 🙏 Shows with real down to earth people and kick ass bands
La voz de este hombre enamora ❤️❤️❤️

the unmistakable Gretsch Double Anniversary “Green Knight” guitar
