He was Jimmy Page's first choice for the lead singer of Zeppelin, thats why his vocals sound like Robert Plant, plus Robert Plant and Terry Reid are both tenors.
All Terry did was recommend because of contrational obligations. Terry would've lasted tops 3 albums until directions would have been an issue. Terry like Jimmy had strong feelings about where they were wanting to go. Terry never went any where he didn't want to be. Including Jagger's first official wedding. Ask him. Champ Terry
If memory serves me right, he referred Plant to Page when de declined the offer.The rest shall we say is history. A brilliant relativly unknown that is still performing last I heard. Been a fan of Terry's music since I first heard his Bang Bang LP as a kid in the 60's.
Homeboy influenced Robert Plant. Actually they’ve influenced each other as they were friends and played together. When Jimmy Page was looking for a singer for his new band, he invited Terry Reid who declined the opportunity but told Jimmy to give his friend Robert Plant a call. The rest is history.
I think Plant used his voice as more of an abstract, sort of tribal, if you will, instrument in many cases. Terry Reid`s vocals are far more melodic and deliberate. I appreciate them equally. But who's asking me? :-P
Just found out about Terry Reid today, damn this album is so good!!! I feel like I just discovered buried treasure.

Page invited Reid to be the singer of Led Zeppelin, before Reid recommended Plant. I think Zeppelin would have been almost as good with Reid.
