@@kingpin20042003 that is not how it works. You can't force people to make a change. The person has to want it. A trainer or coach can strengthen your motivation for change by eliciting and exploring your own reasons to change. However, they cannot make this decision for you. Once you have decided, they can then teach you the skills/provide the resources for you to achieve your goal. There's a lot of trial and error.

I totally agree. When I first started working in this industry, I tried my best to motivate and push every one of my clients like an athlete but most really didn't want that. One even stormed out of the session after shouting at me saying that she doesn't want to be push. That's when I realised most that pays for a personal trainer usually just wants to feel good about themselves and feels like they are making progress and most importantly, they just wanted someone there for them. 3 years into working in this industry, I know which button to push now. The ones that stay the longest with you are usually the ones that just wants to feel good about themselves. The extremely motivated ones usually leave within 3 months
      after learning "everything" from you

My trainer tries to murder me with every session we have. He's super strict on my diet and pushes me to the point that I usually want to either cry or vomit.
He's the only trainer I've had, so I don't really have anything else to compare to, but I could see why people would quit his sessions very quickly.
As you say, a lot of people want to get in shape without changing their lifestyle in any meaningful way. Hahaha...I wish that were the case.

On the real, this dude's explanation of his monster being portrayed as a ghost to symbolize his late grandfather and the role he played in his family's life is exceedingly deep. Imagine a young man starting a business and thinking about what his parents understood to be an overbearing intrusion on their life, while concluding that they were wrong and that same monster was actually someone trying to point them in the right direction. Then sketching out some artwork to the best of his ability and sticking with it, making it the basis for his company mission. We could all learn something from this.

It’s really sad that there are people out there that get their kicks from ruining someone’s business, life, career, passion, or anything important to that person. Folks will do that to both people they know and don’t know and will do it even if there is no good reason for it, I’ve found that it’s often jealousy but I’m noticing a trend lately where people often times don’t see others as actual people with dreams, goals, emotions, or feelings. Many assholes out there can’t even consider anything beyond themselves and will ruin something for someone just for fun, it’s a fucked up world we live in.😔

And I love his way of talking about “internal demons” as it is something that plagues everyone even in the simplest of choices…. I love what Jordan Peterson says… “become a beast and then learn how to tame it”… it is just simply know your potential and then discipline yourself to get it…

The coffee at the beginning is smart, much better for you long term than pre-workout and sets him apart. When I was training my buddies and I would try to get people to switch to black coffee or caffine pills instead. I ran into a lot of people that didnt want to push themselves while training, they just wanted someone there to tell them good job after doing the minimum.

As someone who's had difficulty exercising, one thing that's gotten me to push myself is giving thanks. I had a scare a while back, which made me reflect on those who lose limbs, organs, senses, and the ability to move. Our body is a gift, and just like you don't break a gift in front of the one who gave it to you, I wouldn't wanna face God as I am right now. Some people can't get all the gifts, yet they're still grateful and kind, and others get it taken away. I'm grateful my unhealthiness is entirely in my hand.

It takes two to tango. From my experience of working in retail for a few decades. Many people are rude and don’t realise they are. Or behave in a manner that would bring the worst out in the most patient person. As far as dealing with service, I would be inclined to check the situation out myself. You can usually get the feel of a place in a short time.
