The epitome of friendship and comedy. @ShannonFreng, Johnny wasn’t in any way cruel or annoyed, he just had fun with it. Was Ed himself dignified? Well, not really but he sure as hell was funny.

Today, I realize that mom was right all along. Carson could turn anything funny. And Ed was really part of the show - this was a good team.
Johnny Carson was the best of all time.
Johnny, "You think you're fooling anybody!?" Lol! Nope! What's in that coffee cup there Ed? LOL!
that the shows will now be seen in their entirety is awesome. i cant wait
Ed was hammered.
"Don't say...." I laugh every damn time.
Drunk and sober, I heard Johnny say, "Seven or eight..."
Hereeeessss johnnyyy...legend..mis both of them
There will never ever be a better late night host and sidekick.
2 WWII Vets...........just like my Dad............OLD SCHOOL......do not make men like that anymore....now skinny jeans and plucked eye brows and tight baby t shirts....
Teatimony to what a true gentleman and professional Johnny Carson was, he put the show above everything and turned this moment into one of the funniest tv moments in history
"And you really think you're fooling everybody don't you" 😂😃😅😆
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to Ed McMahon 3 6 For the time you and Mr. Carson ruled late night, millions went to sleep with a smile. That is a special legacy
incredible classic
You’ll never get that kind of talent and class ever again
when jonathan winters recounted his wild drinking days, Ed laughed harder, and louder than anybody
I didnt know they were so funny together! That was great!! Lmao
Never try to reason with a drunken person. God. Johnny was pure CLASS.
😂Ed, are you plastered? YES! You are correct, sir!! Hi-O!!!! 😂
Man, say what you want but for a supposedly drunk guy, Ed can sure carry a conversation without tripping himself up.
The side eye game was on point here.
Later years Johnny did a show that took unique clips from past shows and talked about them a bit........ this clip turned out Ed was going though a very messy devorice and the final decree was that very afternoon. Ed went out, and as Ed put it took a "special long lunch".
Thanks for the back story.
Interesting tidbit that is totally understandable.

As one does in such a situation. And he didn't call off and have Doc fill in for him; because the show must go on. Then he made a very enjoyable night of it for all involved.
That's an interesting theory. However, note that he is wearing a wedding ring. NO one finishing a messy divorce is still wearing a wedding ring. That story is bunk.
The funniest part is watching Carson reacting to Ed as this unfolds ... Carson is amused and finds it hilarious ....
It was a time of great comedy. Johnny and Ed were the best talk show partnership of all time. His buddy had one to many and he was helping through the show. Today everyone would make into a hugh ordeal comedy is dead in late night

What do you mean appears? He was freakin' hammered!
