- Just a little video for you guys today, we felt like it was too interesting and too clean not to show you guys this build and we thought you'd enjoy! This is an Ford Escort with the Mazda RX-8 rotary engine! Never seen a build like this one before, and was surprised with how clean and crisp the fabrication is as well as the bodywork/paint!

such a cool car to see, I actually asked the guy if he could open the bonnet and show the engine as I know not many people even knew it was rotary powered.
I've just seen this car at a Haynes breakfast meet this very morning. I couldn't stop looking at it, going away, coming back and looking some more. Everybody who looked was impressed, even if they didn't see or "get" the whole thing. It now looks slightly different in the engine bay and the exhaust is routed "conventionally" and exits the rear. Would have loved to have a few words with the builder, not that he would be as interested in answering my silly questions. 🙄 In short, for me, a simple idea fantastically executed. Easily the best (built) car at the show. Stunning car 😎👍

thats georgious it surprises you sometimes 1or2 cars in the carpark at a show or event are better then most in the show and better prepaired so much time love and effort went into them to get 100s of people leaning over scratching or denting them with keys in there pocket not paying attention. Cant wait to see your next build after a good look at the corsa at the pod.

No they don't. It would be 2616cc if correctly registered. It's blatantly illegal I'm afraid. You can't modify the chassis like that and keep the original reg, should be on a Q.

Only thing I’d change would be to paint the lips of the wheels black to make the wheels look smaller and the tyres look higher profile…..just to make it a bit more sleepery

The car was with a group of people an I think the owner was there but dident want to come over and talk. I asked if I could look inside they said ye no problem.

1980?? Doesn't look anything like my 1980 escort. Does his have a custom front and rear end welded on?
Should be registered as 2616cc NOT 1296cc.
All RX8's have 2616cc on the V5.
As its a chopped around bitsa it should also be on a Q plate.
