      Twitter was not a true business, it was an 'agenda-spreader' seemingly - their financial results have not been good. Anyone with long employment history at twitter will need re-calibration if they seek employment in a standard type of tech company. And very, very few employers will actively seek out that kind of challenge in a new employee. On-boarding new staff is already hard enough.

    Here in Australia it is a 38 hour work week. More than that, and it is voluntary overtime.

      We don't have that in the U.S. . I lost my job because I couldn't physically work 7 days a week, 10 hours a day with 3 back fusions. I couldn't maintain the expectations at the time. That's how America runs a lot of their companies that are publicly traded. Shareholders come before labor force (at least the salaried ones which I was). And yes, that is what Elon is doing right now. He runs Tesla like that.

    • @grayrabbit2211
      @grayrabbit2211 Рік тому

      @@popweaselcrunch It's possible; I lived it and truly enjoyed it. Things were different back then.
      I started working when I was 12 years old, full time at 14. Even in middle school (grades 6-8 at the time), I only went to class a few days a week. I was able to arrange working at my own pace with my teachers. Normally Mondays I'd show up with completed homework, Tuesdays would be additional homework/quizzes/exams, Wednesdays I'd wrap up whatever loose ends came up.
      In high school I was part of a "dual enrollment" program, wherein you took classes at the local college, paid for by the school district, and received both college & high school credit. The time savings of having a class which only meets 2-3x a week instead of 5 days a week was key, not to mention that most of my college classes didn't have busywork (homework) like high school classes did. I also arranged a similar self-paced study program with my teachers. I actually got in a bit of hot water for finishing too many classes too quickly. Apparently there was a maximum number of credits you could earn per year and I exceeded it.
      My job was rather public and highly technical and we often gave public tours of the facilities. For high school tours, I'd usually give the tour myself, then continue working. Many of my own teachers had seen me in action there and let quite a bit slide. I was doing far more research, writing, and math daily at work than I'd ever do in their classroom, so they were more than happy to support my endeavors. It didn't hurt that I was often asking them for help with concepts well above what was being covered in the classroom, as I needed them for work.
      No matter who you are, we are all given 168 hours in a week. How you choose to allocate them is up to you. I only slept about 4-5 hours a day, something which I still do today. I'd normally be at work by 4:30a and work until mid-morning. Classes after that. Back at work by 3pm until the work was done. Some nights that was 7pm. Others it was 11pm or later. Weekends were where I racked up the overtime. 12 hour shifts.
      I'd do similar in college, working 2-3 jobs while pulling a full pre-med load. Most of my jobs were out of town, so I'd drive or fly out of town for a few days, work 2-3 days straight, head back to college, rinse wash repeat. I remember hearing and laughing that medical residents were limited to 80 hours/week... thinking what would I do with all the extra time.
