- Navigation in Maya:
The ALT key is your Friend.
- Hold Alt and LEFT Mouse Button drag to rotate the camera
- Hold Alt and MIDDLE Mouse Button drag to pan the camera
- Hold Alt and RIGHT Mouse Button drag to zoom in
: scroll wheel also works for zooming in
I just started my first Maya class online. Our teacher rushed through a lot of exercises explaining tools like rotate, move and scale without any explanation of what he used to navigate. When I asked, he was already six steps ahead and helping someone physically present in his classroom. I've been panicking about finishing the assignments by deadline. This simple video was a lifesaver. Thank you. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel.
Hi.... we can use rotations in navigation without pushing the alt button ,just like any other 3d programs ?
thanks i love you, you saved me
Happy to help!
Alt+MidMouseButton does nothing. I can scroll the wheel to zoom it, but it doesn't work when I try to pan. Why? :(
I'm having the same problem. I hold down control and middle mouse button and it zooms in
same it was working fine for months and then suddenly it stop working
I dont like maya navigation system...
how do u use the middle mouse button on a laptop??? i dont have a mouse
Get a mouse!
But you can also google "maya no middle mouse" and you'll find a bunch of threads for how folks have changed settings and keyboard functions to solve that problem
Navigating the 3D view in Maya is really awful, particularly for individuals with just one fully operational arm. The developers of this program have really discriminated against and ignored people with disabilities. I have switched to Blender which at least gives you the option of using a mouse in conjunction with a key but you can just use the mouse. Particularly useful for users with just one operational hand. I'm very disappointed about Maya and their subpar navigation tools.
Honestly if I had to do it all over again I would go Blender. Incredible what you're doing and totally crap that the program has absolutely no accessibility features.
Can you recommend any good Blender resources?
@@thefilthyartist There are so many, here on UA-cam. After Blender 2.8 became available, I discovered Grant Abbitt's channel which is great for beginners. Grant has a great workflow and is very detail oriented. Good luck and thanks!
@@miramarensis perfect! Thank you for the rec for Grant's channel!
