I live in Knoxville and the AMBC have worked tirelessly to put Knoxville on the map as a mountain biking destination. Baker's Creek was a huge project with a grant from Bell leading the way. We really have started to adopt the biking culture with something for every skill level. We have trails varying all over the region from Haw ridge in Oak Ridge TN , to Sharp's Chapel, to Ijam's Nature Center, to Baker Creek Preserve, to IC King Park and so many other areas close by. Plus we have beautiful country roads for road bikes with farms and scenic views. If you are ever in the area you should definitely check us out. Another thing we are known for are our micro breweries and distilleries with more on the way. And just an hour or so away from Baker is Wind Rock Park.
THANK YOU!!! It's remarkable to see it all come to fruition. These trails saved my sanity during the extended quarantine. Social distancing? No problem! I live in a mountain biking heaven! Thank you. I enjoy it as much as I can...only problem-it's rarely dry very long 'round here anymore for a lot of the year. I try not to mess up that beautiful work....
I've been eyeing Windrock and IC King. I used to walk around there many years ago. I just finished every trail (besides the DBD downhills) of the South Loop/Baker Creek system.
As a Knoxville resident, one of my favorite things about Baker Creek is that it's literally 5-10 minutes from downtown in the urban wilderness. Have a great ride, stop for a beer at SoKno Taco after - the perfect day! Next time you're in town, I.C. King, Sharps Ridge and Haw Ridge are great trails to check out.
Hey I live bullseye center of the South Loop. I want to say thank you for building such cool things right here where I grew up. Our property values are blowing up because of the biking and hiking heaven that is the Urban Wilderness. Great work! It kicks my ass! I wish I was as good/brave as all of you! I've gone deep into riding over the past year, especially during COVID lockdown (the Urban Wilderness trails have been my entire sanity). I've done every trail in the system besides the crazy ones. Anyway, great trails, and great video!!! Thanks everyone.
By the way, I'm considering doing an airbnb at my house, specifically for cyclists visiting the UW. Let me know if this would be of any interest to any of you riders out there. MounaBowie@gmail.com
I rode Bentonville in August and Knoxville a couple of weeks ago. Knoxville is a hidden gem. Check out Windrock Bike Park near there. It’s your type of place I believe.
Man that looks great. We need that in NJ. Just did the ramapo to ring wood cannonball trail today, no flow just tech everywhere. Still a blast. And a couple weeks back I do your fav, painted apron, it was great and only about an hour away. Keep it up, great stuff.
In the far northeast end of Tennessee up by kingsport ( bays mountain and warriors path bike parks)/ bristol (steel creek and South holston lake area bike parks) and johnson city (tannery knob and Buffalo mtn bike park trails) are good places yo ride at. That area is only about 90 to 100 miles east of knoxville. Then from there you could go over and ride on the mountain bike parks up by Asheville and Boone nc and wolf laurel at the ski resort. Go up to both Beech and Sugar mountain ski resorts where you can ride in the off season on their ski slope trails. In tgw far southwestern areas in virginia there is a newer sugar hollow bike park in abingdon, va and then just about 25 to 30 miles east from there traveling on interstate 81 up by marion,va you can ride the bike trails at hungry mother state park.
Knight Ide and Crew have built some insanely good trails down there. Knightfall on Sharps ridge across town is another killer trail as well. I wish NH would hire him to build some stuff in SNH we desperately need a spot like Baker Creek
Ima Jersey boy too. Live out in PA now ... NC, Florida, Sedona and Thunder sounds like a pretty great year to me!! Freezing right now. Was gonna go down to NC but it's freezing there too, so heading out to Socal and AZ for a few weeks.
Hey Jeff, saying hello again. If you're ever going through New Mexico on 1-40 and want to stop in Gallup to ride, I'd be happy to show you around. Happy New Year!
How are the trails in Gallup? I hear there is this one loop thats very Grand Junction CO like...🤔A friend of mine said he rode a loop called High Desert trail loop. How is the Zuni trail system?
@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 thanks for asking. Yes, we're proud of our trails here, but you won't find anything made with a machine...all natural single track. The High Desert Trail system is a stacked loop system with 3 loops. It's beautiful riding and will net you 20+ miles if you do the whole thing. The 3rd loop (most western) is closet to the technical riding in Grand Junction. It's not severely rocky/rough, but has steeper climbs, more exposure, etc. Overall, faster and not as technical as Grand Junction. The Zuni Mountains are also rad, with Aspens and Ponderosa Pines. Its generally pretty straight forward XC riding (IMO) and you can really cover ground and enjoy the woods. A welcome respite from summer heat down in Gallup too. There are currently about 50+ miles of trail in the Zuni's (on the Gallup end) with more to come! Everything is super accessible from I-40, within minutes. Send me a message directly if you have more questions. Cheers! -Greg
