This is insane! Also, it's so cool that Barney's guitar is not catching dust in some collector's vault, but is rather being played by someone who knows how to.
Marvelous performance! In case Barney Kessel recorded his rendition of "Yesterday" with that one, this is literally the guitar which introduced me to the jazz guitar sound.
Just saw Bruce at a Jazz Guitar Festival in Cambria, CA this past weekend and he was using the guitar for all his sets the whole weekend, so good...! He even played the Cry Me a River intro lick on the guitar during a workshop he gave...the rest of 2024 is a bonus after hearing that on the same guitar Barney played on the recording...🤯
We had the pleasure of hearing Barney Kessell play live some years ago now. It was at an outdoor summer jazz festival gig but, a few numbers into the set Barney stopped mid-flow, looked up at the trees around the site and gently told the birds off for singing out of tune!! What a one off talent he was - much missed of course but wonderful to be able to witness here one of his guitars still bringing the music to life. 🎶👍
Lovely video, I loved everything; the guitar timbre coming out of the amp, the touch of the strings, the feeling, the dynamics, the musicality and creativity. beautiful version!!!
Take care of your health musicians. Barney’s last years were quite bitter after his stroke. He deserved his victory lap but never got to see it because of his condition. Nice to see his axe in great hands. Hopefully it keeps making its rounds one presidential administration at a time.
He picks and uses the side of his hand to generate the harmonics 12 frets above where he’s fretting. He does it at an angle pretty fast - it’s a great sound.
Great stuff. I was really hoping that Sam Elliott was going to walk in at the end and say "Hey Dude... I like your style" through his own big white mustache and from under his own big hat. Maybe next time? 🤞🏼😄
The 60's came along, then the 70's, and if you weren't Wes or Martino, you stopped playing standards. Players came up with their own material to avoid ASCAP fees and hope their work became standards. Albums from Barney, Liebman, even Bruce's work failed to ignite buyers. (Well, you bought them used, and sold them) But if you saw Bruce in San Francisco at Jimmy's or Yoshi's, or the room on Columbus just down from Broadway run by the Dragon Lady...you got the real shit. Not to say I don't love experimental stuff. You should see what I'm eating...
That was just perfect 🙂
yes! awesome ! I have the feeling he practiced this before😀
Yes, perfect.
One of THE most UNDERRATED guitarists of our day. This is easy brilliance out of Bruce's ears to his hands to our ears.
Barney would be proud that his favorite guitar is actually still at work

Very underrated musician…..he should be up there with the greats ….got him on a Richie Cole record….wow….
Bruce is one of my all time favorites 👍
Lucky guitar who has been played by the best players in history one after another😊 I hope that will continue years to come.
One of the greatest!
Fantastic, what a brilliant player. Barney is smiling from heaven seeing his guitar in such good hands.

It warms my heart he has my fav guitar ever. 😀
My first time hearing Bruce, amazing!
Wow amazing
Your acoustic presentations are tremendous, but "Another You" amplified is a beautiful work of art. Thank you.
Genius

Please teach me how to make hermonics cord tone by right hand only.

Cant believe thats the original one from Barney

c'est la guitare de Barney Kessel ;
How does he do that at 0:33? Are those are harp harmonics?
He picks and uses the side of his hand to generate the harmonics 12 frets above where he’s fretting. He does it at an angle pretty fast - it’s a great sound.
@@marcschonbrun585 thanks! that's what I thought he was doing. just went by so quickly I couldn't believe my eyes
