Metal Sculpture - Forging a Bronze Horse

In this video, I delve into the world of metal art to create a horse sculpture from beaten bronze. "Beaten" refers to the process of hammering to shape. This process can also be referred to as embossing or repousse. It is also sometimes referred to as forging, which is not entirely accurate as forging, by technical definition, involves heating metal and changing its shape through compression (hammering). This "beaten" process can loosely be referred to as forging, in that a hammer is used to deform the sheet metal, thereby changing its shape.

Great Work Sir, I am Very Inspired from your Art work.
My father was selling non-ferrous metals to artists in the greater Toronto area for decades and I'd tag along to the workshops. Then as an adult I got the bug to make my own. Flash forward I now record sculptors at work from raw materials to finished art in exhibitions. It's a privilege to capture details so people appreciate what goes into these creations.
This is (once again xD) MAGNIFICENT WORK! That´s like what you´re offered to look at when you´re on a vacation trip visiting ancient greek ruins.
These mixed medium pieces are great to see. really like it.
I really enjoyed watching your process it turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing! Inspirational
Magnificent! From one craftsman to another, job well done!
Thank you
It seems like getting started on a project like this must be one of the hardest parts, because after 3 passes of hammering out at the start, it looks like nothing, and its not until later you can really see it becoming your vision. But Wow what a vision when it comes together!
It really did take a while for the personality of the piece to emerge
It really came together. Very nice piece.
Awesome workmaship. Makes me want to get to the shop to work on my sheets of copper, will probably take me another decade before my work looks that nice. Thanks for the great video
Thak!! Thank you for sharing your struggles to become the Master you want to be. Very inspiring.
Realy inspiring! I usually do small repoussé, but this makes me want to try bigger stuff.
Stunning! Thanks for sharing your work, I’m inspired to make something!! ❤
Just blew my mind with the 3/4 perspective explanation. Denial and acceptance and then again Blam! Mind further blown. Got it though. The illusion of depth requires “stretching” the horse too match what our brain perceives. Mind again blown. Thanks for dumbing down that explanation so I can comprehend 3/4 of the 3/4 view process…
BTW, “War Horse”, the theatrical production and later the movie had great models for their props. Love the detail in that magnificent horse!
thanks....i will check out Warhorse if I can find it
Absolutely stunning piece!
Thanks
Thank you
Amazing THaK
Thank you
Absolutely amazing.
Outstanding ! Really appreciate you going thru your process.
My pleasure!
Bro I really think you should try making something to resemble the persian bull statues. This horse somehow reminds me of them, and I think your style of working would suit it very well. Also the lines in the persian bulls are very nice to look at
This guy is amazing!
Amazing craftmanship
Excellent Craftsmanship!
Thanks
I LOVE UR WORK THAK
You are too kind
Inspiring! I want finally to get started on learning repousse. Was bummed to see that your next repousse class is this month, can't make that, but as a USA citizen, I'll keep my eye on your site's schedule. Would you consider online courses outside of the serious amount of info you've already put on this channel?
THat is effing AWESOME! Nice job.
Thank you very much!
Wow!
Wonderful piece of art. I'm glad you are presenting at CanIron. Saskatchewan hosted last time. 👍🤙
awesome
Thanks for your continued support
Astounding as always!
Thankyou
Shit man, this is seriously amazing work. I do very different stuff but would love to learn this.
Great job Thak. Finished piece is impressive. Liked to have seen your finishing repousse technique and tooling for the surface finish ... did you do it all with a ball been on the shot bag?
No...there was a lot of work over various stakes using raising hammers....as well as a bit of work with pitch....any technique I can think of to move the process forward
niice
Thanks for that. Is the bronze sheet prone to tearing?
How many hours do you have in something like this? Beautiful work as always.
Lost track....maybe 150
Lost track....maybe 150
Beautiful work.... What gauge of bronze sheet are you using? Also how do you weld the pieces of bronze sheet? Oxy and bronze rod?
TIG with silicon bronze filler rod....18 gauge sheet
What bronz alloy do you use?
Silicon bronze
Do you ever make anything for quad state
I made a breastplate there many years back....it is probably still there
@@ThakIronworks ok I’ll have to check it out you do great work thanks for sharing your special builds
What does the clay model serve if you don't turn it into a mold ?
It is a mental training of the topography
