Hi. I really enjoyed watching this. What awesome views of the Kaipara Harbour from your place. I'm totally envious of your tomatoes- we had a yellow pear cherry tomato fruiting from autumn through to the end of last August under our car port, in Beach Haven Auckland, which was lovely. I noticed the dreaded kikuyu grass?! A hint we picked up is to put wood chip paths all around the area, so you'd weed the grass back from paths, and it doesn't grow straight into the raised beds. We don't add cardboard or weed mat, and it works well. Mum would cut the kikuyu edges back with her gardening knife. It's sneaky, it loves being covered over and runners creep under, and you can't see them until too late 🤣
Thank you for your lovely comment. It really is a hidden wonder here I feel. The grass is something I have mixed feelings on. I strim hard to the edges which after the first couple of years means the grass does not impede so much. Unfortunately, I have not found a cheap bark place yet and it cost me a fortune doing the poly tunnel in vlog 8
Hi Howard - the polytunnel is fabulous, flowering tomatoes already! Maybe if too hot in summer you could use it for drying herbs & said tomatoes. Mega broccoli heads well done!
Thank you Ann. I am really happy with it and I have now got all the flooring done and so it's even better. Spent yesterday sowing all my tomato seeds! Have things started to warm up down your way yet or are you still getting frosts?
Hi to you Howard. Mr Bromley Cottage and I also put in a polytunnel in April of this year and have had great success over the winter growing hydroponic lettuce and kohlrabi. It was just an experiment to see how it would go, and we've been very happy with the result. We too thought it might be too hot in there over summer but we're going to give capsicums, chillies, and aubergines a try. Maybe a couple of tomatoes and cucumbers as well. We're down in the Wairarapa so it would be interesting to compare how we both go over the summer.
Congrats on the tunnel and thank you for the lovely comment. Definitely we will have to compare the peppers and aubergines :) (not really a chilli fan so you will always have the edge on me there) Did you guys get the snow the other day in the Wairarapa or does it feel like you are moving into the warmer weather now?
So comforting watching this 🥰🥰
Thanks Ella - I think they are getting better
Hey there Howard. Fab videos, lovely to see your gaff in NZ. And those broccoli! Wow! 😮👍
Thanks so much Andrea. Really glad you liked it. Still very much a work in progress but trying to get a nice vibe in them.
The seal was amazing .
Not been back since though :(
