    Canada's poverty problem isn't going away. Inflation is at an 18-year-high. Food, gas, housing prices are all climbing. Context spoke with organizations making a real difference for those living on the edge of poverty: ua-cam.com/video/zIFTviFzTog/v-deo.html

    I'm Canadian and I can tell you the reason why it's so hard to make ends meet, is because of the Astronomical Rents/Housing Prices. The cost of living is up the roof and you have to make at least $50k a year just to get by if you want to live a somewhat normal-ish life. Even at that, You won't be owning a home or renting a 3 bedroom apartment for a family of 3. You need to clear at least 4$-$5k a month to support a family of 3.

      @@lupeavalos9342 Not anymore.. you use to be able to move outside the city to get away from high rents, but even rents in small areas have skyrocketed and you'll pay $1000 for a place so far from jobs and services that you'll spend twice as much just getting groceries. Canada has literally started euthanizing it's poor and disabled, (at no cost to the patient) to save money.

    I live in Canada the biggest problem is how much housing has gone up. The problem is there is no limits on how many units and properties one person can buy. Indeed, if the government allows foreign investors to buy property and inflate the rent prices, it should compensate this by covering part of the rent automatically. If a chinese investor buys a property and doubles the rent from 500 to 1000 , the government should compensate the tenants with 500 a month.

    • @binloveds
      @binloveds 2 роки тому +1

      @@limouzine1529 no... the government should have blocked that from happening. New Zealand had policy that prevents foreign buyers from buying existing houses/buildings ( and farmland) , so as not to displace the local population. Foreign land buyers/investors should only be permitted to buy undeveloped land ( with limitations on size) and build... this would not take housing away from citizens and would not artificially inflate housing prices and rent. This is an old idea! It’s suspect that our “elected representatives” couldn’t figure this out.
      Also... a few years ago Canada’s housing market was put on a online property shopping site in China, that already has 90 million “shoppers”. 90 million ... for a land grab free for all. We can thank all those “highly educated” Canadian bureaucrats and politicians for protecting the Canadian people ( extreme sarcasm).

People need to stop looking at themselves as perpetual victims, and these social services are most guilty of conditioning brainwashing people into hopelessness and learned helplessness, and not just relying on handouts. many people did dope BEFORE THEY lost it all, it was while they were working. Theres different motives...not just one way...different reasons. People either get beaten down and stay there, or struggle to rise back up. Who will be the easier person to help? We are being taxed into poverty as well, why is that with how insanely we get taxed over & over on every single little thing x100 that the food bank is seeing 40% increase with people who need there services. The rate there taxing us in this country we should all be eating good, like damn. $300-$400 off my paycheck bi-weekly towards taxes. Let us keep our gross income, ridiculous.

    Not sure how I feel about Alberta's poverty crisis, given their long history of ultra conservative - Right Wing Politics. For a long time Albertans have been so invested in misguided "Bootstrapping" and "Entitlement" ideology. They have held a grasping and resentful sense of Entitlement around their Natural / Mineral resources, espoused a lot of Racist - Xenophobia ideology, endorsed RW politicians whose social and economic policies have never been about protecting working class / poor interests. Many Albertans actually love and support Trump. Remember Preston Manning and Stockwell Day, the guys Albertans wanted to bring to Ottawa...? They have decried any economic policies that sounded "Socialist"....so its hard for me, as a 50 yr plus, racialized and marginalized Canadian born national myself, to have empathy here....other than to say, the chickens have come home to roost !

      But ultra-conservative right-wing politics is partly the reason Alberta is one of the better off provinces in Canada.
