    At the end of the day cards are luxury goods. I'd rather have prices be somewhat too high or even outright expensive and miss out once in a while on good deals or plays as opposed to having a situation like Magic TCG where the entire market tanked due to worthless cardboard being overprinted and is unlikely to recover any time soon, if ever. Consumers need faith in the product to hold value otherwise guess what? It's valueless and the company fails.
    There will always be new opportunities to invest or collect. Also, putting it bluntly for those who lack imagination, Pokemon is not even close to reaching its full potential. If you think prices are high now, whoa boy are you in for a wild surprise.

    JLUV has very narcissistic and hypocritical approach to many things. He also wants to be a mediator/moderator in a discussion but in most cases he takes a side and don't hear arguments of the other side. That's what makes people mad about his approach and really limit him to being just a buffon. He made a LIVE with "investors" and than proceed to mock them, pretended he didn't hear any of their arguments. Only to make fun of them in one of his new videos. It's childish, attention seeking attitude.

    All this drama seems a bit silly to me, especially when you consider they all benefit from the engagement it drives at the end of the day, and I think everyone has made some good points, including yourself, this is a very good nuanced take IMO.
    Personally, I don't think investors deserve all or even most of the blame for what's going on now (at least the smart ones) but in way I think they have contributed to the current situation. My theory is that the gains in sealed Pokémon outpacing traditional markets has just proven to be too lucrative, more and more people want a piece of that pie, and we've reached a critical mass where there just isn't enough to go around as more and more dumb money is entering the space. Looking at it that way, I can completely understand why some of the Pokémon die-hards on the collecting side are on the verge of a crashout.
    I don't think many people have an issue with products being investable and gaining value over time, the problem right now is there isn't a reasonable price for new product for anyone. Long-term Investors don't have a reasonable entry point, most collectors are priced out, and game stores can't a fraction of the product they used to... The current market only works for those who control the distribution of supply, scalpers/flippers, and those collectors with the deepest of pockets.

  • @MahBahlZitch-ks6bn
    @MahBahlZitch-ks6bn 15 днів тому

    Just curious , you say as a long term investor you wouldn’t be buying into prismatic at these prices which is understandable. But for someone who is into short term as well as long term investing do you see the market dipping a little bit at release and then a week or so later it going up in price just like surging sparks did? People said $180 was too much for a surging sparks booster box but look at the prices now, I can see prismatic doing the same thing as surging considering the fact products will be released a month apart and with rip and shippers and UA-camrs doing pack openings besides the fact there’s people who open it with their family and friends or to make master sets . Any thoughts on my opinion?

    Love of money is the root of all evil. Scamming a hobby aimed for children...unthinkable.

    • @CollectPokemon
      @CollectPokemon  15 днів тому +4

      @RAFFCOLLECTIBLES That's a point that I missed out, and you nailed it. Originally the msrp price was ment for parents to buy kids something. However, overtime Pokemon, evolved to no longer only for kid. So for popular sets like PE, we see the diffences between what adult value cards as and what kids value cards as.
      I do think if pokemon can print more, this issue can be resolved.

    • @CollectPokemon
      @CollectPokemon  15 днів тому +4

      @RAFFCOLLECTIBLES and as an investor I hv strong confident that even if they print a set to the ground, it will mot affect future value much. Since Hidden Fates I always say that reprints are good, and it's good if more ppl can have access to the set. Because in the future, these set will then become nostalgic to ppl. If a set is short printed and hard to get, no one in the future will have a connection with that set.

    • @RAFFCOLLECTIBLES
      @RAFFCOLLECTIBLES 15 днів тому

      @CollectPokemon as a collector that rips packs, it would be great if pokemon reprinted popular sets like 151 and others to the ground. Not necessarily to crush investors but that i can get products for mrsp. Only exception for me to pay a little above mrsp is at LGS to support them.

      @@CollectPokemon Also a very good point. Yet children these days have exposure to the internet more so than ever. They have set lists with pictures of cards to sift through and dream of owning one day. I never owned a PSA 10 Shining Mewtwo when I was a kid but I wanted the card more than anything after seeing it on an ebay listing in 2009. It gave me a longterm goal to strive for. But yes I agree that reprints are great so long as the demand is there.

    At the end of the day it takes 2 to tango. Scalpers/investors exist to profit and willing buyers are encouraging the market to continue to ramp up the prices. If no one was willing to buy the relisted prices, scalpers/investors wouldn’t see an opportunity.

    • @a28skullking
      @a28skullking 15 днів тому

      You’re right but I also think there’s a lot of fomo with certain sets BECAUSE of the scalpers and investors. When you know there’s going to be cards hitting high prices but you just want to open some booster boxes/etbs with your 6 year old on his birthday you’re kind of screwed. People can spend their money how they want and invest in what they may but it does corrupt the average collectors experience. I for one hope they start printing sets to horrific levels and flood the market with them so the investors and scalpers suddenly can’t hoard all the products and casual players (the children and families) get to enjoy it without having to worry about paying 3x the price.

      @a28skullking 15 днів тому

      @@championredd kids aren’t imaginary. That’s a weird statement to make. Your argument is kids aren’t real and buy the etbs of the sets you’ve already collected. Can’t my (very real) children have some of the new sets that Pokemon make and try to find their favourite Pokemon in? Heck maybe they see some Pokemon from the game they play or a character they’ve seen or just beat. It’s actually great opening new stuff with them and seeing all the new art too. That’s why I hope to get a chance to do so with every new set.

      The release of this promo was poorly handled to the point the museum stopped giving them out to customers as there were people pushing and shoving to get product to get promo. This, imo tainted this promo. People and businesses that have a lot of these promos enable that behavior. The same type of behavior seen at costco with 151 restock. Physical altercation of any kind should not be encouraged and should be condemned. That kind of behavior doesn't belong in this hobby.
